Chapter 260 The Sound Of Face-Slapping Echoes

Chapter 260 The Sound Of Face-Slapping Echoes

Aurora was quick to accuse, putting on an act. “Mr. Wraith, you’re just in time. The Scott family is really throwing their weight around here, trying to stir up trouble…”

But before she could finish, Finneus nodded at Hannah. “Ms. Carter, sorry for any

offense.”

It was Hannah’s first time meeting Finneus, and for a moment, she was unsure of his intentions.

Aurora couldn’t help but feel a surge of delight. ‘No wonder Mr. Finneus managed to take Xenith Systems Group public in just one year. He really knows how to work the room and get things done efficiently!’ she thought.

‘Whether Hannah is Raven, Vulcan, or Shadow, on Xenith Systems Group’s home turf, Mr. Wraith is the one who calls the shots! Aurora gloated inwardly.

‘If Mr. Wraith kicks them out, this whole competition is done for and the apology? Out the window.’ Aurora was practically gloating inside.

With a wave of his hand, Finneus’s bodyguards stepped up, seized Aurora and her crew, and got ready to toss them out.

Aurora was dumbfounded.

“Mr. Wraith, are you sure you’re not making a mistake? It was her…” Aurora stammered, desperate and flustered.

“Mrs. Nelson, after what you just pulled, I’m seriously doubting your company’s ability to deliver. Looks like we’ll be finding someone else to handle our orders this quarter,” Finneus cut her off politely. “Sorry, but we’ve got VIPs tonight. You’re not invited to stick around.”

He was kicking them out, but somehow made it sound refreshingly elegant.

BOOM!

Aurora felt like she’d just been hit by a bolt from the blue, completely fried and frozen in place.

SMACK!

Just then, Beckett Nelson, CEO of Nelson Group, finally shoved his way through the crowd and landed a heavy slap right across Aurora’s face, barking, “You poisonous shrew!”

He immediately turned around, his face stretched into an apologetic grin, trying his best to smooth things over. “Mr. Wraith, Mr. Dorian Scott, Mr. Arthur Scott, I’m terribly sorry. My wife’s behavior was out of line and offensive.

“From now on, I’ll make sure she stays home and doesn’t go around causing trouble. Please forgive us. I’ll get them out of here right now so she doesn’t ruin anyone’s night,” Beckett said

They’d come to Xenith Systems Group’s third anniversary party Hoping to lock in a new system production deal and even snag an early chip license.

But thanks to Aurora stirring up trouble, all their plans went up in smoke, and they just lost a massive order for the new quarter!

With that, Beckett spun around and snapped at Aurora, “Get the hell out!”

Aurora was still reeling from the slap, totally out of it as the bodyguards hauled her away.

“Hold on,” Barnaby said, his lips barely moving as he spoke in a cold, commanding tone. “She still hasn’t apologized.”

The bodyguards understood instantly, roughly forcing Aurora down to her knees on the floor. “Apologize!” one of them barked.

Aurora had spent her whole life throwing her weight around, never suffering such humiliation, especially not in front of all these powerful people. It felt like her dignity was being ground to the floorboards for everyone to witness.

This was the ultimate public humiliation, nailing her to the pillar of shame among the elite, left for everyone to scorn and ridicule.

With even her own husband demanding it, Aurora had no choice but to choke out a miserable, “I’m sorry…”

Her voice was so soft it was barely audible.

“What was that?” Lucian cupped his ear and called out, making sure everyone could hear.

Aurora was so furious she wished she’d knocked that little brat but cold earlier. Gritting her teeth, she spat out, “l, am, sorry!”

Lucian put on his best little adult act, nodding slowly. “And what did you do wrong?” he asked.

Aurora’s jaw clenched so hard her molars were grinding. “Fine! Kaelin really did cheat. You weren’t making it up!”

Now that he’d finally cleared his name, Lucian looked absolutely smug, like he wanted to shout it from the rooftops… Oh,

wait, everyone was already watching. So he just put on his little grown-up persona.

Lucian said, “Knowing you messed up and fixing it is the best thing you can do.”

Eleanor was so furious she could practically steam out of her ears. ‘Who does this kid think he is, my teacher or something?” she fumed.

As mad as they were, there was nothing they could do. They’d already apologized, and now the bodyguards were escorting them out.

The host jumped in to keep things moving, and most of the guests started to drift off. But a handful just couldn’t tear themselves away, they kept shooting hopeful glances at Hannah, wanting to go up and talk, but the bodyguards kept them at bay.

“Sis, how was my act just now?” Lucian grinned, milking the moment for all it was worth and fishing for compliments from Hannah.

Arthur snorted. ‘They called you a lapdog, and you really leaned into it, huh?”

Hannah reached out and ruffled his hair. “Not bad.”

Lucian usually hated it when anyone touched his head, he’d snap at whoever tried. But this time, he didn’t dodge at all. Instead, he looked up and asked, “Does it feel nice?”

Hannah thought, ‘His hair is so soft, way better than petting Hedy.’

Hannah replied, “It’s alright.”

Lucian’s eyes sparkled. “If you become my mentor, you can ruffle my hair every day!”

Hannah just stared at him, lost for words.

“Ms. Raven, now that your family’s issues are settled, isn’t it time we discuss our business?”

Just then, a blonde woman walked over. It was Laura, from the Meridian Space Agency delegation.

The translator beside her was about to speak, but Hannah unplugged her USB drive, stood up, and asked, “What’s this about?”

She spoke in fluent, native Veridian.

The translator immediately fell silent, and Laura, seeing this, spoke directly.

“You broke into our satellite, VER-224. Time to come with us,” Laura said, her tone sharp.

Barnaby stepped up, putting himself between Hannah and Laura. He shot back in perfect Veridian, “And who says you get to take her anywhere?”

He spoke just like Hannah did, but his voice was low and smooth, like a cello, impossible to ignore.

“We’ve got an Interpol warrant,” Laura said, flashing the paperwork.

Barnaby barely glanced at it, his tone cool. “You sure that thing’s still good?”

“Of course!” Laura replied, full of confidence.

“Then how do you explain this notification I just received?” Hannah said, holding up her phone for everyone to see.

The photo showed the latest official statement: the arrest warrant for Raven had been revoked, and all charges were dropped.

She’d gotten this on her way over, a “gift” from the Master of the Scepter House, just like he said he would.

That was exactly how she knew the Master of the Scepter House was onto her identity. He sent the revocation notice straight to her, there was no way he didn’t know who she really was.

‘Wait, when did Barnaby start suspecting I was Raven?’ Hannah thought, a mix of shock and curiosity swirling inside. Hannah shot Barnaby a loaded side-eye, silently asking him a thousand questions.

Barnaby felt her stare, on the surface, he was cool as ice, but inside, he was totally losing it.

‘Crap, she caught on!’ Barnaby panicked.

‘Looks like tonight’s lineup isn’t just durian and washboard, guess I’ll be cuddling the keyboard and remote too… Barnaby groaned to himself.

“Impossible!” Laura exclaimed, staring at the revocation notice utter disbelief. She immediately asked her assistant to verify it.

The assistant made a quick call, then returned and whispered a few words in Laura’s ear. Laura’s expression shifted for a moment, but she quickly masked it.

She put the warrant away, her face composed. “We still need you to come with us, Raven. Let’s move to a different location and have a proper discussion about the VER-224 satellite.”

Her orders from higher up were clear: no matter what, she had to bring Raven back to Veridia.
