Chapter 263 Let’s Break Up
Chapter 263 Let’s Break Up
“No,” Barnaby shot back right away.
“Look, you spotted all these little mistakes. That’s seriously impressive. Even Shadow might not have caught them,” Barnaby explained.
When real hackers went head-to-head, nobody checked if the other side was going easy. If a crack appeared, they went for it without hesitation.
“Cut the sweet talk. You totally underestimated me and let me win on purpose,” Hannah grumbled, poking at his code.
But honestly, his code and logic were on a whole other level, no denying it. If he hadn’t gone easy on her, there was no way she could’ve beaten Vulcan.
The more he acted like that, the angrier Hannah got. She even started to suspect…
“Did you let me win the Obsidian Pearl on purpose back then?” Hannah demanded, her voice sharp with accusation.
Hannah stood up, shoved the laptop back at Barnaby, and stared at him, her eyes full of suspicion.
Barnaby’s heart skipped a beat. He thought letting her win would help her vent, but he never expected she’d call him out on this too.
“Yeah, we both put in the same price,” he admitted honestly.
‘I knew it!’ Hannah fumed, her rage boiling over.
She was furious, he’d been pulling the strings from the start, playing her like a game.
Seeing her face fall, Barnaby quickly tried to explain, “Hannah, I’m sorry. I recognized you back then, but I kept quiet about it, and yeah, I took advantage of my position to get you to do some things for me…”
“It was just… you said that once you cured me, we’d have nothing to do with each other anymore. I didn’t want you to leave, so I schemed a little,” he admitted.
‘Schemed a little?’ Hannah sneered to herself.
‘That’s basically no different from playing me for a fool, like some scam artist!’ she fumed.
Hannah held back her anger and nodded. “What else have you been keeping from me? Spill everything at once.”
Barnaby looked at her, guilt gnawing at him. Secrets had no place between them.
When Barnaby kept quiet, Hannah assumed he wasn’t going to say anything. “If you’re not going to say it, then…”
Before she could finish, Barnaby suddenly blurted out, “Xenith Systems Group is actually mine,” he said.
Hannah was stunned. ‘Wait, hasn’t Xenith Systems Group always been at war with the Thole Group?’ she thought.
She knew Barnaby hated the Thole family, but she never imagined he’d go so far as to secretly fight against them.
If the head of the Thole family ever found out, Barnaby would be kicked out without a doubt, he’d be out on the street in no
time.
‘This is just outrageous…’ Hannah thought, her mind reeling.
No wonder they took the Xenith Systems Group jet to Deer City last time. How could she have missed that?
“When you came to work with me at Ascent Ventures, I wasn’t really there much. I usually hang out at the Scepter House or here,” Barnaby continued. “And that investment from the Scott family? That was all a trap I set up.”
Hannah’s heart thudded heavily in her chest. “Anything else?”
“That dinner with Daisy Reese? I set that up just to make you jealous. And when I pretended to hurt my leg, it was just an excuse to see you, so I asked them to bring me home.
“I dropped the flowers on purpose, not by accident. And my hand? I could’ve fed myself, but I pretended I couldn’t, just so you’d take care of me,” Barnaby confessed.
‘Wait, how did we end up talking about this?’ Hannah thought, feling the conversation was getting way off track
“Oh, and that photo? I didn’t send it by accident, I totally pretended it was a mistake. Since you seemed pretty into my body, I figured, why not…” Barnaby added, his tone playful.
Hannah’s face flushed as she remembered how nifeditkar
she blurted out.
MOD that photo. “Who asked you to bring that up?”
Successfully unlocked!
“Those don’t count?” Barnaby asked, raising an eyebrow
Hannah, worried he’d just keep going off track, quickly replied, No, that doesn’t count.”
“If those don’t count, then that’s all…” Barnaby started, but then his gaze landed on the conch pearl bracelet on her wrist.

Wait, actually, there’s one more thing,” he said.
Hannah arched her brow, suddenly realizing what Barnaby was about to say.
Barnaby hesitated, knowing this would sting, but he came clean “That bracelet you’re wearing? Rosalie didn’t actually give it to you, she was just passing it on for me.”
Hannah lifted her right hand, gazing at the bracelet on her wrist stunned and lost in thought.
‘Wait, this bracelet I’ve always kept safe, thinking it was my luck charm, wasn’t it supposed to be my adoptive mom’s keepsake?’ she wondered, her mind reeling.
She just couldn’t wrap her head around it. That bracelet was supposed to be her lucky charm, something she’d always thought was a piece of her past, now it felt like everything she believed was a lie.
Barnaby started, then stopped, struggling for words. “That doesn’t really count as me tricking you, does it? You got the wrong idea yourself…”
Hannah looked up at him, her eyes saying it all, she didn’t even know what to say. ‘He’s had feelings for me since we were kids…’ she remembered.
Suddenly, she felt like prey tangled up in a hunter’s net, stuck right where he wanted her. He hadn’t actually done anything to hurt her, but being played like this just pissed her off.
“Let’s break up,” Hannah said, her voice cold and resolute.
Barnaby had prepared himself for the worst when he started confessing, but he never expected Hannah to be so firm about
He took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright, I respect your decision.”
‘But when we were in bed, where was all that respect? He never listened or stopped when I wanted him to, Hannah fumed to herself.
‘And now, when I say we should break up, he just agrees, just like that, without a second thought?’ Her anger was about to boil over.
Hannah felt like she was about to explode. The way he messed with her emotions was honestly scary.
She’d always thought she had a handle on her feelings, but ever since she met this guy, her emotions just kept spiraling out of control, no matter how hard she tried.
She’d already said it, there was no way she could take it back now. Her pride just wouldn’t let her.
She nodded, her voice stubborn. “Fine! Then go back to Kinswood tonight and get all your stuff out of the courtyard house!” Barnaby frowned. “Do I really have to move out tonight?”
“What, you planning to stick around for the holidays or something?” Hannah shot back, her voice icy.
“It’s just that the transfer for the courtyard house to your name still needs a few days to finish up.” Barnaby explained.
Hannah felt like she was about to lose it. “What, you want me to move out instead?!”
“No need. That place was a birthday gift for you, and you helped me get better, so you totally earned it. Don’t get worked up. I’ll go pack my things soon,” Barnaby said.
Barnaby stood up, walked over, and grabbed her shoulders.
He looked her straight in the eye and said, “Hannah, I’m sorry for everything that happened before. But honestly, I don’t regret tricking you. If I had to do it all over again, I’d still do the same thing.”
Hannah was speechless.
‘What kind of bastard is this?’ she fumed inwardly.
“I spent eleven years searching for you, and now that you’re finally here, I can’t just stand by and do nothing. I don’t ever want to lose you again,” Barnaby added, his voice rough with emotion.
Hannah was stunned, her mind spinning from his words. She burted out without thinking, “How can you lose something you never even had?”
“You said you’d marry me when you grew up, so that makes you mine, no matter what!” Barnaby said, his eyes locked on hers, intense and unwavering.
Hannah wanted to ask, ‘When did I ever say that?’ But then she remembered how naive and romantic she used to be as a kid, maybe she really did say it. She honestly couldn’t remember
‘How could anyone take something a kid said seriously?’ she thought, rolling her eyes.
‘But that’s not even the issue right now. Even if he really believed it, look at how fast he’s agreeing to break up, no hesitation at all, Hannah thought, her frustration reaching its peak.

Hannah shoved his hands away. “Ha, typical man! I can’t trust you anymore!”
Barnaby didn’t get upset. He just replied, “It’s okay, this is all on me. If breaking up is what you want, I’ll respect that.”
