Barnaby ladled out the noodles and called, “Baby, they’re ready. Come eat.”

Hannah washed her hands and sat down at the table. When she saw the noodles with a heart-shaped egg on top, she smirked. “Thanks. You can leave now.”

“So you’re just gonna kick me out after I helped?” Barnaby leaned on the table, looking at her.

Hannah raised an eyebrow. “Or maybe wash the pot before you go?”

Barnaby was speechless.

“Fine,” he said.

Hannah watched as he obediently turned to wash the pot. After she finished her noodles, Barnaby took his sweet time coming over to collect her empty bowl and wash it.

“Did you agree to develop a new chip for the Thole family for Howard Thole?” Barnaby suddenly asked.

Hannah bent down to scoop up the little piglet nuzzling her feet paused, and said, “You really do get the news fast, Barnaby Howard’s got eyes everywhere.”

She’d only just gotten back from the Thole family, and he already knew she’d signed with Howard.

Hannah just stared at him, lost for words.

‘Howard sure moves fast,’ she thought. ‘I haven’t even set a start date, and he’s already blasted the news everywhere. Is he afraid I’ll change my mind?’

“Are you serious?” Barnaby sat down across from her.

Hannah was petting the piglet. “Contract’s already signed.”

Hannah shot him a look, sometimes wondering if he was psychic. ‘How does he always know what I’m thinking?’ she thought.

Instead of answering, she checked the time and said, “You should get going.”

She didn’t want him hanging around late again, just to find some excuse to crash here.

“Before you head out, Ms. Carter, ever thought about making a move to Xenith Systems Group? We’d pay you twice as much,” Barnaby said.

“Not interested,” Hannah shot back without a second thought.

‘Who could’ve slipped this into my bag? And when did they ever do it?’ she wondered.

She retraced her steps from leaving the Thole family, and suddenly remembered that guy who’d been tailing her

“What are you looking at?” A deep, magnetic voice came from behind her.

Hannah jumped, quickly stuffing the note into her pocket. “None of your business.”

“No, Hannah shot back.

She tried to slip past him, but Barnaby reached out and braced His hand against the wall, blocking her way.

“Is it Christopher?” he pressed.

“No!” Hannah snapped.

Barnaby’s eyes grew even darker as he stared at her. ‘Just a few days apart, and she’s already got some new guy behind my back?’ he thought.

“Then who is it?” he pressed, trying to get even closer. Hannah shoved him back, her voice icy. “Keep asking and we’re done!”

Barnaby’s scowl instantly turned into a pitiful pout. “Baby, you’re actually snapping at me over some other guy? I’m so upset, and nothing you do can cheer me up now.”

Hannah was speechless.

‘His mood changes faster than a weather app. If he doesn’t become an actor, it’s a total waste of his skills, she thought.

“Unless you give me a kiss,” Barnaby said, still playing up the drama.

“Be serious. Here, take a look at this,” Hannah said, handing him the photo.

Barnaby instantly recognized the background. It was the Thole family’s house from when Hannah was a kid. He’d been there plenty of times, even lived there for a while.

But when he saw the group wearing Scepter House uniforms, something complicated flickered in his eyes.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“Since you’re the Master, can you figure out what they were up to back then?” Hannah asked.

Barnaby took the photo. “These uniforms are pretty old. I’ll check it out when I get back.”

Hannah blinked in surprise when Barnaby actually left on his own for once. It felt weird not having to chase him out like usual.

Iris got two photos from Hannah and was totally baffled. She just sent back a “?” but when Hannah didn’t reply, she kept going over them, trying to make sense of it.

Finally, she realized the familiar background in those ugly, badly composed photos. Wasn’t that Kyson’s backyard?

She zoomed in on the roots of the tree and saw the soil had clearly been disturbed, and it looked like something was hidden there.

‘Was Hannah there?’ Iris wondered.

Iris rushed over with the servants, but Hannah was nowhere in sight. Under the locust tree, though, they found pills mixed in with the dirt.

Right away, she thought of those prenatal meds that had been swapped out before, and the person who’d done it. She turned to the servants and ordered, “Dig out every single one of these!”

The servants answered, “Yes, ma’am.”

“Martha, who do you think could’ve done this?” Iris asked, glanding at Martha next to her.

“Ms. Iris, don’t get too upset. You need to take care of yourself and the baby. We’ll definitely find out who did this,” Martha reassured her.

When Kyson Thole got home from school, he walked into his house and found Iris Thole with a bunch of servants searching around in his backyard.

His heart skipped a beat. He walked over and asked, “Iris, what are you all doing?”

“Kyson,” Iris said, turning to look at him.

Seeing her expression, Kyson had a bad feeling. Iris had been investigating the person who swapped out those meds lately, and now she was suddenly poking around his place. That couldn’t be good.

But when he saw the servants just digging near the locust tree, he felt a little relieved.

“Ms. Iris, we’ve dug them all out,” one of the servants said, handing her a clear bag filled with pills.

Iris’s face was grim. She took one out and handed it to Martha. Martha, take this to Dr. Madison and have her run some tests.”
