Chapter 286 Bring Down Barnaby

Chapter 286 Bring Down Barnaby

“You should talk to Howard about this. I’m not their HR, so hiring isn’t my problem,” Hannah said coolly

“I know. I just wanted to let you know I’ve already signed with them,” Spencer said, raising his glass to Hannah. “Let’s be partners in crime and take Barnaby down together.”

Hannah was speechless.

It was the first time she’d heard someone make ‘partners in crime’ sound like a compliment and say it with such swagger She remembered Barnaby mentioning that Spencer was partnering with Howard, so she asked, “When did you sign?” Spencer gave her a mysterious look. “Trying to dig up your menor’s secrets?”

Hannah was speechless.

‘What kind of secret is that? Weren’t you the one who came over to tell me?’ she thought.

Spencer downed his drink in one go, then suddenly stood up. “Sure, why not. Come with me to a party, I’ll tell you on the way.”

“What party?” Hannah asked.

Spencer: “My dad’s birthday party.”

“No way,” Hannah shot back.

“Nope, you’re coming with me. Barnaby’s got a girlfriend now, soll need to bring someone too, or they’ll just set me up on more blind dates,” Spencer said, grabbing her wrist to keep her from leaving.

Hannah tried to pull away, but his grip was way too strong.

She was speechless. “What does this have to do with me? If you need a date, go pick someone up yourself.”

‘So Barnaby’s got a girlfriend, and you want to bring her to the party? Wait, ex-girlfriend, she thought.

‘Does that even make sense?’ Hannah thought.

“I want him to see who I actually like, so he’ll finally stop trying to set me up with random people,” Spencer said.

Hannah’s mouth twitched. “You sure you won’t get yourself killed for that?”

“He wouldn’t dare. I’m his only option for an heir right now, unless he wants to hand the Lynch family to someone else,” Spencer said, with total confidence. “So, as your mentor, I’m counting on you to help me out!”

Then, ignoring Hannah’s struggles and protests, he hauled her out the back door and bundled her into the passenger seat.

Hannah was about to make a run for it while he circled to the driver’s side, but Spencer caught her just as he opened the

door.

“Come with me, it’s a win-win for you. When we get back, I’ll show you my exclusive code that can take on VulcanPK, and I’ ve even got a list of his weak spots.”

“Exclusive” was all it took for Hannah to settle back into her seal giving him a skeptical look. “Are you sure you’re not just trying to scam me?”

“Have I ever lied to you?” Spencer fired up the engine.

Hannah wanted to say, ‘Haven’t you just been messing with me his whole time? Especially last time!’

But then she reconsidered, those guys who were tailing her really were Barnaby’s people. So it wasn’t exactly him pulling a fast one; it was more that she hadn’t fully trusted Barnaby yet, which was why she ended up falling for it

Thinking about Barnaby, Hannah peeked at her WhatsApp, still o message from him.

She shot off a quick text: [What’s going on?]

About ten minutes later, Barnaby finally texted back: [Where are you?]

Hannah thought there was finally an update about the photos, she quickly replied [Out]

But Barnaby must’ve been caught up with something, because e never texted back.

“The Thole family hit me up as soon as they decided to go ahead with the new chip project. I wasn’t feeling it at first, but when I saw the news last night that you were in, I changed mynd. Signed the deal with them this morning,” Spencer said while driving.

Hannah shot him a look. “You put in a good wo

“Just think about it, us, master and apprentice, sneaking into the Thole family’s system, wrecking Barnaby, and taking over

the whole Thole empire together.”

Hannah was speechless.

Hannah gave him a look like he was crazy. “When did you realize was Raven?”

“Back at the Scepter House, when you tried to wipe that transaction record, I started to suspect it then,” Spencer said.

Hannah: “So you were the one who deleted that transaction record!”

Spencer: “Uh-huh.”

“Why?” Hannah blurted out without thinking.

Spencer looked way too excited, totally unfazed by the chaos. “No real reason-I just wanted to see what you were scheming. If it sounded fun, I’d be in.”

Hannah was lost for words.

Hannah honestly couldn’t wrap her head around how his mind worked, but there was one thing that just didn’t add up. She pressed him, “You didn’t even know Barnaby’s codename back then, right? So how could you be sure he wouldn’t join the Thole family’s chip project?

“Plus, you told me to stop digging into the Thole family, but then you recommended me for their new chip development. Isn’ It that totally contradictory?”

“I never knew Barnaby’s codename, but I did know he was a hacker, found out way back when we were in the military,” Spencer replied. “And as for my goal, I already told you: we’re teaming up to take Barnaby down, simple as that.”

Hannah was speechless.

As Hannah listened to him ramble on about Barnaby, she thought, ‘If he wasn’t so nuts, I’d swear he was Barnaby’s number one fanboy.’

“He must trust you a ton, right? Dumping him and teaming up with me, that’s the ultimate payback!” Spencer said.

“How did you know we broke up?” Hannah asked, surprised.

Spencer: “Christopher told me.”

Hannah was speechless.

‘Since when did Christopher become such a blabbermouth?’ she thought.

“So, what do you say? Want to team up and take him down?” Spencer asked, raising an eyebrow.

Hannah saw him glance over at her, but she didn’t answer. She just reminded him, “Keep your eyes on the road.”

Seeing she didn’t shoot him down right away, Spencer grinned. Take your time, think it over. Just hit me up whenever you’ re ready, we’re at the same company now, so it’s easy.”

Hannah kept her eyes on her phone, staying silent.

Spencer took her to a styling salon and had the manager set her up with one of their top stylists.

Before heading into the next room to get his own look done, he turned to Hannah and asked, “So, what kind of style do you think will make me the center of attention at the party tonight?”

“Dye your hair green,” Hannah said offhandedly.

Spencer: “Great idea.”

Hannah was speechless.

Two hours later.

Hannah walked out of the styling room and caught sight of Spencer emerging from the next room, rocking a shock of vivid green hair.

His cool, pale skin and crisp white suit somehow went perfectly with that wild green hair, making him look surprisingly fresh and lively.

Spencer glanced over at Hannah in her white, high-slit dress, with a green bow on her shoulder, the exact same shade as his hair, and looked pretty satisfied.

“Matching outfits. Not bad,” he said.

Hannah was speechless.

She suddenly wanted nothing more than to ditch him.

Spencer stretched out his long arm, caught Hannah just as she was about to walk off, and pulled her right up against him.

“We’re supposed to be a couple now, so we gotta look the part He didn’t even finish before Hannah nailed him with an elbow, but he just held on tight, not letting her go.

“Sure,” the clerk replied, giving Spencer’s green hair a strange logy as he gathered the terns for Hannah

Spencer was unfazed and asked Hannah, “What do you need all his for

“You’ll find out soon enough,” Hannah said, checking the price and getting ready to scan her phone to pay

Spencer whipped out his phone. “I’ve got this.” Then he teased, What, is this some kind of gift for meeting my ter

Spencer had just scanned the code and was still punching in the amount when he saw Hannah heading out. He looked has phone and rushed after her.

Once in the car, Hannah hopped into the passenger seat, poured the two powders into the purified water, gave it a good shake, and whipped up a bottle of clear, gel like liquid.

As Spencer drove, he watched her finish mixing and start smearing it on herself. He couldn’t help but ask, “What is that stuff you just made?”

“Itching powder,” Hannah replied.

Spencer raised an eyebrow. “What are you even doing with that?

He barely finished his sentence before Hannah slapped a glob of the gel right onto the shoulder he’d just grabbed

Spencer cleared his throat. “Hey, aren’t you itchy?” he asked, eyeing Hannah suspiciously.

Then he watched as Hannah pulled out a few needles and pricked herself with them, totally unfazed

Spencer frowned, feeling doubtful. “Is that stuff even supposed to work?” he muttered.

Hannah dabbed a pea-sized blob onto her fingertip and smeared it on the back of Spencer’s hand as he gripped the wheel Within seconds, his hand started itching like crazy.

He grabbed a tissue and wiped it off with one hand.

He could tough out pain, but itching? That was his kryptonite.

Meanwhile, Hannah had slathered the stuff all over every inch of exposed skin she had, except for her face.

“Damn, you’re ruthless!” Spencer blurted out.

‘I’m not just ruthless. I’m next-level savage, Hannah thought to herself.

Half an hour later, the car pulled up outside the Imperial Hotel.

As soon as Spencer got out, he instantly kept his hands to himself. He didn’t dare try anything with Hannah now

His messy, vivid greenfhair instantly drew the attention of the reporters hanging around the entrance.

“Spencer, did you dye your hair green just for your dad’s birthday party? Are you trying to mock someone? one reporter shouted.

“Hannah, why did you show up with Spencer? Does Barnaby know about this?” another asked.

“So, what’s going on between you two? Are you a couple?” a thi reporter chimed in

Hannah was speechless.

Spencer ignored the reporters and, unfazed by the curious stares from the quests, led Hannah up to Banquet Hall No. 1 on the ninth floor.

As soon as they walked in, all eyes turned to Spencer, and the room filled with hushed whispers

Spencer was completely unfazed. He just kept walking, leading Hannah straight toward the main table

At the main table, David Lynch was chatting with some guests when he spotted Spencer’s eye-catching hair from across

the room. His face darkened for a moment, but when he saw Hannah standing next to him, his expression instantly brightened.

He even looked genuinely pleased. ‘That’s the Nameless Healer can’t believe she’s actually here, David thought, his heart
