Chapter 326 Scared Of The Morgue?
Barnaby frowned. “Why are you heading down to the basement vel?”
As far as he knew, the hospital’s lower level was the morgue, wasn’t it?
Hannah said, “Just want to take a look.”
“What’s so interesting about the morgue? Don’t go,” Barnaby said, grabbing her hand to keep her from going downstairs
Hannah shot him a surprised look, then suddenly caught on. She narrowed her eyes, studying his face like she’d just caught him out on something. “Are you scared?”
Barnaby let out a cold, dismissive laugh. “Ha, it’s just a bunch of corpses. What’s there to be afraid of?”
Back when he was on the front lines, he’d dealt with plenty of corpses.
Hannah gave him a not-so-innocent smile. “Then why won’t you let me go? Hmm?”
“It’s full of germs. It’s disgusting,” Barnaby wrinkled his nose in distaste.
‘Geez, what a clean freak, Hannah thought.
Hannah pulled her hand back. “Then wait here. I’ll be right back!
Barnaby shook his head. “No way! I can’t let you go down there alone.”
‘Come on, what’s the big deal?’ Hannah thought, feeling a bit speechless.
Hannah couldn’t help but feel speechless-Barnaby’s protectiveness was seriously getting out of hand.
“Fine, let’s go,” she said.
Seeing he couldn’t stop her, Barnaby asked again, “Why do you have to go down there?”
“I’m looking for someone,” Hannah replied.
“Isn’t it just full of dead people?” Barnaby asked.
“Not necessarily,” Hannah shot back, a hint of mischief in her voice.
Barnaby froze mid-step.
“What’s up?” Hannah glanced over her shoulder at him, her expression all but saying, ‘Weren’t you just acting all tough a second ago?’
Barnaby coughed, trying to play it cool. “Hold on.”
He spun around and asked a nurse for two surgical masks and a pair of sterile gloves-honestly, if he could’ve gotten a full- body suit, he probably would’ve. Hannah had to step in before he went overboard. It’s not like they were moving in down there.
They took the stairs down to the morgue. An old man was napping at the front desk, and even their footsteps didn’t stir him.
“Excuse me,” Hannah said, walking up and tapping the desk. The old man jolted awake, and when he saw they weren’t hospital staff, he shooed them away. “Out, out! This isn’t a place for the living.”
“Dr. Andrew Watson sent me to find the body that was just brought in-Kyson Thole,” Hannah explained.
“What doctor?” the old man shouted, cupping his ear.
Hannah was speechless.
‘Of course, he’s hard of hearing on top of everything else, Hannah thought.
“Dr. Andrew Watson!” She shouted, making sure he could hear her.
“Oh, okay,” the old man said, putting on his reading glasses and hipping through a notebook. “What are you looking for?”
Hannah was left totally speechless.
‘I seriously want to give him a couple of shots to fix his hearing.
Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream echoed from inside the morgue, followed by a loud crash, like something had been knocked over.
Even the hard-of-hearing old man heard that.
“What the hell! Who dares cause trouble on my
right in to check it out.
‘Old man’s still got it.

As the old guy marched in to check things out, Hannah followed right behind him.
The morgue was chilly, and in the long, empty hallway, only the sound of three pairs of footsteps echoed
Out of nowhere, a frantic banging rattled the door down the cordor. Barnaby, right behind Hannah, instantly grabbed her
hand
Hannah paused, turned back, and teased, “Seriously, are you scared?”
“No” Barnaby shot back, a little too quickly.
‘Dead bodies? Please, I’ve seen way worse. What’s there to be scared of?’ he told himself.
Hannah glanced down at his hand, still gripping her arm. She couldn’t help but notice how tightly he was holding on. ‘Guess even the legendary Master of the Scepter House gets spooked by the morgue, she thought, amused.
“I’m just worried you’ll freak out,” Barnaby said, trying to sound casual but not quite pulling it off.
Hannah couldn’t help but smile, stood on her tiptoes, and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
Barnaby’s eyes sparkled, and he swallowed, but with both of the masked up, it was like kissing through a wall-totally unsatisfying.
“Scared yet?” Hannah teased.
“Yeah, I’m scared!” Barnaby admitted, not even bothering to hide it.
‘Is he doing this on purpose?’ Hannah thought.
The iron door rattled with loud bangs, and a boy’s panicked sobs echoed down the hallway. “Is anyone there? Please, let me out! Sob, sob!”
“Well, kiddo, looks like you’re not all the way dead yet, huh?” the old man said as he walked to the morgue at the end of the corridor and unlocked the door.
As soon as the door swung open, a kid in patient scrubs shot out like he’d just seen a ghost.
It was none other than Kyson.
His face and lips were paper white, like he’d really just seen a ghost.
When Barnaby saw it was Kyson, he frowned, thinking, ‘So this is the guy Hannah came down here to find? What are they up to?’
Seeing Kyson about to rush over to Hannah, Barnaby moved fast and pulled her behind him.
“Uncle B!” Kyson shouted, rushing over and throwing his arms around Barnaby in a huge bear hug.
Before he could even start bawling, Barnaby pried him off with a look of pure annoyance.
Kyson didn’t care at all. After waking up in a place full of corpses, seeing any living person-especially Barnaby-felt incredibly comforting.
Seriously, who wouldn’t freak out if they woke up in a morgue, surrounded by dead bodies?
“You came to pretty quick,” Hannah said, watching him cry his eyes out. ‘If he’s got the energy to scream, he must be fine, she thought.
Eleanor wasn’t wrong about one thing-Hannah really did have the power to bring someone back from the dead.
Of course, it was only thanks to the quick rescue that Kyson didn’t end up dead for good.
But right after they revived him, Hannah got a sudden brainwave and roped the doctors and nurses into putting on that whole scene with her.
Eleanor’s birthday was coming up, and Hannah was already cooking up a surprise for her.
“You saved me?” Kyson asked, scrambling to his feet and looking at Hannah with teary eyes.
For a moment, Kyson couldn’t help but marvel at life’s irony-just hours ago, Hannah was ready to finish him off, and now she’d turned around and saved his life.
Barnaby glanced at Hannah, raising an eyebrow. “What happened?”
“Let’s talk somewhere else, Hannah said.
After saying goodbye to the old man, Barnaby led them to a quiet, private restaurant.
Once they were settled in a private room, Hannah ordered some desserts and coffee.
“Alright, lay it all out for me. Start with how you and Eleanor schemed to swap out Iris’s prenatal meds, and don’t leave a single detail out,” Hannah said, making it clear she wasn’t here for half-truths.
Kyson’s eyes went wide. He shot a cautious look at Barnaby sitting beside Hannah, then leaned in and whispered, “How did you know it was us?”

Hannah took a slow sip of her coffee. “I dragged you back from the brink for one reason-so you could tell me exactly what I want to know.”
In other words-cut the crap.
Kyson pressed his lips together, clearly not thrilled about spilling the truth.
“Just a heads-up-Kyson Thole is already dead in this world, a suicide who took the fall for his crimes. So, do you want to keep breathing, or would you rather head straight back to hell? Your call. You’ve got until this coffee’s finished,” Hannah said, tapping her fingers on the table.
Kyson wasn’t stupid. He got the message loud and clear-he was already a dead man, so if he didn’t talk, Hannah could off him right now, and no one would ever know.
‘And here I was, just thanking her for saving my life!
‘This woman is pure evil!
‘No, she’s even scarier than a demon!’ he shivered inside.
After everything he’d been through with Hannah, he knew better than anyone-when she said she’d do something, she meant it, no matter how ruthless.
There was no way out for him.
If he died, the Thole family would erase his identity in a heartbeat. No ID meant he’d be a total nobody in today’s digital world-couldn’t get a job, couldn’t rent a place, couldn’t even buy a train ticket. He’d be completely screwed.
And if he tried crawling back to the Thole family for help, he’d be nailed for swapping out Iris’s prenatal meds and trying to sabotage the family’s bloodline. Worse, Eleanor would finish him off herself-no way he’d survive her wrath.
He couldn’t help but shiver, remembering how Eleanor had grabbed him by the throat and nearly drowned him in the sink outside the bathroom. With all that hanging over his head, he had no choice but to spill everything.
