Chapter 336 No More Lies?
Chapter 336 No More Lies?
“So you made her relive what happened back then?” Barnaby demanded coldly
No wonder Hannah kept trying to get used to the darkness the past few days, and even asked him about what happened
back then.
It turned out she was just following his orders.
Every time Barnaby thought about how Hannah would tremble and go cold whenever she was plunged into darkness, or how her body would go on autopilot and attack people without er even realizing it, it was like an invisible hand was clutching his heart, making him both angry and miserable.
He wouldn’t let anyone hurt Hannah, not even Hannah herself.
“I… I didn’t…” Allen stammered.
Allen had no idea what methods Hannah was using. He just trusted that she’d find the killer, because she’d promised him.
He might not believe other people’s promises, but when it came to Hannah, he trusted her completely.
He’d done his own digging. Hannah might not be the soft, gentle Calista she used to be, but she was genuinely investigating who killed his sixth aunt and working to clear his sixth uncle’s name.
They were on the same side, so he’d shared everything he knew with her.
“Don’t you dare let her get mixed up in this again!” Barnaby snapped, wiping out all the photos on Allen’s phone right in front of him.
Allen tried to stop him, but it was too late. He was fuming. “What’s wrong with her trying to clear my uncle’s name and get me the truth?”
“She did nothing wrong. The Thole family is the problem!” Barnaby said coldly. “I promised my brother I’d drop this case. If you want to stick around with the Thole family, stop tempting Hannah to look into it!”
Allen’s lips quivered, his whole body shaking with rage. After years of playing the fool, he was so used to acting dumb that his mind just froze, unable to come up with a retort.
The head of the Thole family had ordered that no one mention Alastair’s death, so Allen had been pretending to be crazy all these years, just trying to survive in the Thole family and dig out the truth.
But now, even Barnaby was shutting him down.
Wasn’t Barnaby supposed to be on Hannah’s side?
If not, did Hannah even know?
If she did know, then by giving her all the intel, hadn’t he just totally blown his cover?
Suddenly, Allen felt like he was falling into a bottomless pit of despair.
Just then, Barnaby’s phone buzzed in his pocket. It was an unknown number, but he answered anyway.
A woman’s voice came through the line. “Sir, Ms. Carter’s awake!
Barnaby hung up and threw Allen a sharp warning. “Don’t you dare tell Hannah.”
Then he turned and strode out the door.
“S-Sir?” Maria, who’d been knocking on the door, suddenly froze Barnaby was giving off such a scary vibe that she instinctively stepped aside.
It wasn’t until he left that she snapped back to reality. She rushed into the room and saw Allen slumped on the floor. looking totally out of it. She hurried over, helped him up, and checked for injuries. “Allen, are you alright?”
Allen finally came to, grabbed his blanket, and slyly hid his phone. Then he dove into the closet, keeping up his act. “Uncle Barnaby wants to play hide-and-seek! I gotta hide! Maria, you all better hide too…”
*****
When Barnaby got back to the courtyard house, his female subordinate was already gone.
The lights in the west wing were all on. Hannah was sitting on the couch in the living room, looking a bit spaced out. The little piglet was sprawled on her lap, belly up, letting her scratch ts tummy.
“Baby, why are you awake?” Barnaby asked, his g Successfully unlocked!
Hannah hadn’t seen him when she woke up, and when she ne anged and just got back, she asked, “Where did you go?”
“Just had to handle something urgent. It’s taken care of now,” Barnaby explained. Seeing how pale she looked, he sat down beside her and pulled her into his arms, his brow furrowing.

Chapter 336 No More Lies?
It was the middle of summer, but she was freezing cold all over
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?” he asked, reaching out to touch her forehead. It was cold too.
Hannah was totally drained, slumped against Barnaby, her eyes unfocused like she was still half lost in her nightmare.
“I had this awful dream,” Hannah whispered. “You locked me in dark room and I just couldn’t get out. I jerked awake, totally freaked out…”
It felt way too real, like she was a little kid again-trapped in a tiny dark room for a whole day and night, starving and
suffering.
After what felt like forever, her adoptive parents and the nanny finally found her and tried to save her. But then this creepy little boy showed up with a knife and stabbed every single one of them.
Her adoptive parents fell into a pool of blood, their faces all twisted and scary. Hannah just curled up in the corner, terrified, watching as the little boy came closer and closer, until he was standing right in front of her.
She looked up-and it hit her. The little boy’s face was exactly like Barnaby’s when he was a kid.
That’s when Hannah snapped awake, heart pounding. Realizing Barnaby wasn’t there, she felt totally spaced out, like she was just a ghost drifting around. She was so out of it, she didn’t even register anyone else in the courtyard.
“You’ve really been pushing yourself too hard lately, baby. All this stress… Don’t put yourself through this anymore, alright? Or just try a different way, yeah?” Barnaby said softly, running his fingers through her hair to comfort her.
“Okay,” Hannah murmured.
Hannah was still a little out of it, the nightmare’s fear clinging to her. Out of nowhere, she asked, “Barnaby, you’re not gonna lie to me again, right?”
She’d given him her whole heart, told him everything-no secrets left. Would he really stop hiding things from her like before?
Barnaby’s hand froze, his eyes flashing with doubt for a split second. “Why are you thinking like that?”
As he spoke, Barnaby gently lifted the little piglet off Hannah’s lap and set it on the couch. Then, with a soft smile, he scooped her up in his arms and carried her toward the bedroom. “It’s still hours before dawn. Try to get some more sleep. okay? I’ll take a quick shower and come right back to hold you.”
Hannah didn’t think much of it. She let him carry her back to bed rolled over, and tried to sleep, but her mind wouldn’t settle -her sleep was restless.
Fifteen minutes later, Barnaby slipped under the covers, smelling fresh from his shower, and pulled her close from behind. Hannah curled up against him, and only then did she finally fall into a deep, peaceful sleep.
The next day.
But it was no use-she still wasn’t getting anywhere. Clearly, this just wasn’t cutting it. Time to switch things up. Since the clinic was closed today, Hannah texted Percival and asked him to meet her at 2 in the afternoon.
Just as she was about to head out, Joe slammed on the brakes and stopped right at the door.
The window rolled down, and he blurted out, “Hannah, bad news! Your grandma just got taken in by the cops at the Enchanting Hotel!”
Hannah frowned. “What happened?”
The legendary Dr. Carter was famous all over Kinswood-who’d have the guts to mess with her?
“It was the Reese family!” Joe blurted out, sounding frantic. “I dove your grandma to the Enchanting Hotel this morning. She said Raymond Reese wanted her to bring some documents so she went up. I just waited for her downstairs.
“But barely after she went up, Mrs. Reese stormed in with the police and a bunch of reporters, claiming your grandma was soliciting! The cops hauled her off right then and there!”
