The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 343

Chapter 343 Forget My Birthday?

Chapter 343 Forget My Birthday?

Meanwhile, over at the Reese family estate.

Catherine showed up at the front gate, clothes a mess and looking like she’d been through hell, only to get mobbed by the reporters camped outside.

“Mrs. Reese, is everything that’s blowing up online actually true one of the reporters shouted.

“Is Chloe Jones really not a Reese by blood? Then why did you guys say she was?”

“Did you really buy trending topics to smear Ms. Carter?”

“Word on the street is, you’re the real homewrecker who came between Ms. Carter and Mr. Reese. Any truth to that?”

Catherine clamped her lips shut, fighting her way through the sea of reporters with her bodyguards running interference, finally squeezing inside the house.

As soon as she stepped into the living room, fury took over and she smashed the blue-and-white porcelain vase by the door.

‘Hannah, Evelyn!

‘There’s no way I’ll ever forgive them. It’s war now!’

After taking a few deep breaths to calm herself, Catherine pulled out her phone and made a call.

“Eleanor, let’s skip the pleasantries. You’ve seen the news about the Reese family, right? Can you help us out?” Catherine asked.

“I wanted to help, but I was planning to bring our families together at my birthday party. Who would’ve thought your precious daughter would crash and burn so fast?” Eleanor replied.

She couldn’t help but gossip, “So, is Chloe really your biological daughter? I already put in a good word for her with the family head, saying she could be Barnaby’s wife.”

Catherine’s eyes sparkled at that-an alliance with the Thole family was the best way to save the Reese family.

Even if Chloe wasn’t really her daughter, Catherine would swear up and down that Chloe was her own flesh and blood, no matter what the truth was.

“Of course, we can do a paternity test right there in person!” Catherine said.

“Since she’s really your daughter, there’s nothing to worry about with all those rumors. Just bring her to my birthday party, and this time, we’ll make sure the Thole and Reese families seal the deal,” Eleanor said.

“Thank you, Eleanor,” Catherine said with a smile. “But just a marriage alliance might not be enough. You’ll also need to publicly vouch for the Reese family.”

This wasn’t just about saying a few nice words-Catherine was asking Eleanor to stake the Thole family’s reputation on the Reese family’s behalf. If the rumors online were false, it wouldn’t matter, but if they turned out to be true, the Thole family would be dragged down with them.

Eleanor wasn’t about to fall for that. “Mrs. Reese, I’m afraid that’s not something I can easily do.”

“Eleanor, the Reese family has always done everything you asked. You wouldn’t be where you are today without our help-if not for our achievements, then at least for our efforts. Since you find this so difficult, and with our reputation in crisis, we may have no choice but to leak some information and redirect te public’s focus,” Catherine said, her tone deliberately threatening.

Eleanor’s face darkened. The Reese family knew plenty of her secrets-Catherine was clearly threatening her.

She was pissed, but kept it together. “I can’t do anything about the Reese family’s scandals, but I can help you get back at the one who screwed you over.”

“What exactly are you going to do?” Catherine spat out, eyes flashing with murderous intent. She was dying to skin Hannah alive right now.

“That’s my business. You just clean up your own mess and bring Chloe to my birthday party. Just stick to the plan,” Eleanor replied.

“Fine!” Catherine hung up and immediately called Darren. “Whe’s Chloe? Get her back here, now!”

Darren was already losing his mind, having no clue where that abandoned piece Chloe had gone. “Grandma, why do you need her right now?”

Successfully unlocked!

“Why do you think I want her back? Just make you find theming her home tonight, no matter what!” Catherine snapped, her voice tight with fury.

At Hannah’s clinic.

Chapter 343 Forget My Birthday?

To keep Evelyn from overthinking things, Hannah told her to go hang out with her mom and grandma while she handled the clinic. She planned to head back to the apartment later that night to spend time with them.

After a week of rest and plenty of company, the shadow Catherine had cast over Evelyn’s heart had finally lifted.

Evelyn was happy, but Barnaby, who’d been stuck at home alone for a whole week, was definitely not.

That evening, after the cleaners finished up and disinfected the place, Hannah locked up the clinic, poured some food for the little pig in the west wing, and was just about to head over to the apartment when Barnaby walked in.

“Honey, are you still going over there tonight?” Barnaby asked.

“Yeah,” Hannah replied.

Barnaby’s handsome face fell. Tomorrow was Valentine’s Day-and also his birthday. He really didn’t want her to leave. But Evelyn was the one Hannah cared about most, and with her grandma still needing company after getting hurt, Barnaby just couldn’t bring himself to ask Hannah to stay.

Seeing Barnaby looking so down, Hannah explained, “My brother’s coming over tonight. After dinner, he’ll take my mom and the others home, and I’ll stay with Grandma for a while. She said she wants to work at the clinic tomorrow.”

Barnaby’s eyes lit up. “So you’ll be free tomorrow?”

“I’m meeting Percival tomorrow,” Hannah replied.

She’d already planned to try hypnosis with Percival to see if she could get her memories back, but after the Reese family suddenly went after Evelyn, she had to put it off for a bit.

Barnaby’s eyes, which had just lit up, instantly dimmed. “Alright, go ahead. But you owe me tomorrow night.”

“Tomorrow night… let me check. I think I promised Candy I’d help her out,” Hannah said, pulling up her phone’s notes. “She’ s got a live variety show competition and asked me to show up and cheer her on. We set it up last week, so I really can’t bail on her. I probably won’t be back until late.”

Barnaby frowned, clearly unhappy. Hannah reached up to smooth out his frown. “How about I make it up to you the day after tomorrow, okay?”

Hearing her try to bargain, Barnaby felt a pang of disappointment. She hadn’t just forgotten his birthday-she didn’t even remember tomorrow was Valentine’s Day.

“Mm,” Barnaby muttered, sounding totally deflated.

“Are you free tonight? Want to come over for dinner?” Hannah asked.

“Can’t. I have to meet a business partner at the Imperial Hotel,” Barnaby said, turning away and heading into his room.

Even though Hannah knew nobody could really get Barnaby drunk, she still called out from the doorway, “Don’t drink too much, and come home early, okay?”

“Even if I come back early, you won’t be here anyway,” Barnaby glanced back at her, his eyes full of quiet disappointment. Hannah paused, then teased, “But hey, you’ve still got your little pig at home to keep you company, right?”

Barnaby gave her a look like, ‘Are you kidding me? As if that pig is any kind of company’

What he really wanted was Hannah.

Just then, Hannah’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID. “Alright, it’s Percival. I’m heading out now.” Barnaby watched her leave, feeling totally bummed out. He called up Ronin. “Scrap tomorrow’s plan.” “Huh? Why?” Ronin was caught off guard.

He’d been following the Boss for years, and not once had he ever seen Barnaby celebrate his birthday. Every year, Barnaby was either working or out on a mission-never even mentioned

If Ronin hadn’t checked the Boss’s ID, he’d never have guessed that Barnaby, the cold workaholic, was actually born on the super romantic Valentine’s Day.

This year, Barnaby finally had a girlfriend and actually wanted to spend his birthday with her. He’d started prepping the cruise a month ago, and Ronin had even seen him order a custom ring-he was totally planning to pop the question on his birthday.

They’d spent a whole month getting the yacht ready, even locked in the sailing route just this afternoon. So why was everything suddenly called off?

‘Did Barnaby and his girl get into a fight or something?

‘But Barnaby only just got back to the courtyard house, didn’t he

‘He hasn’t even been home for half an hour-how did things go south so fast?

“Wait, did Barnaby catch his girl cheating on him or something? Ronin’s mind spun with wild guesses.

Ronin just couldn’t wrap his head around how Barnaby could ever get into a fight with Hannah. “Just do what I said and cancel it. What’s with all the questions Barnaby said coldly.

Ronin sensed Barnaby’s anger and snapped to attention, “Yes, Boss.”
