Zoe thought to herself, ‘So there really are people who don’t care about popularity… Though to be fair, Hannah’s naturally beautiful enough that she doesn’t need a title to prove it.

“Come on, at least pretend to be a little disappointed with us,” Zoe protested.

“Can’t. Busy,” Hannah replied, dropping her backpack and heading out with a small tote bag.

Avery and the others exchanged glances, simultaneously impressed by Hannah’s effortless cool.

Hannah left the classroom and headed toward the science building.

On the fourth floor, Owen was waiting outside the chemistry lab, leaning against the wall with a book in hand.

The specialized lab saw little use, and the hallway was empty except for him.

Footsteps echoed from the stairwell. When Owen looked up, he saw a tall girl walking calmly toward him.

She wore her hair in a neat ponytail, her features striking yet coolly composed. An air of detachment surrounded her.

Even in Cavalor’s standard gray uniform, she carried herself with runway-like elegance.

Owen’s breath caught. He quickly closed his book and stood up straight.

“Hannah. Glad you made it,” he said, pulling a lunch box from his backpack. “I brought you something, in case you didn’t

have breakfast.”

She didn’t even look at it. “The key.”

Unfazed, Owen slid a hand into his pocket but didn’t immediately take it out.

“Working on an experiment?” he asked.

That morning, Wolfram had given him the key to pass to Hannah.

Eager for the chance to see her, Owen had asked the family cook to prepare an extra meal.

“Not your concern. Just the key,” Hannah said, her hand still out.

“If you need any help, I’m around,” he said, finally dropping the key into her palm. His eyes stayed on her, hopeful.

“I won’t.” She unlocked the door, stepped inside, and closed it firmly behind her.

She needed to isolate the Obsidian Pearl from its fluid chamber, a delicate task requiring privacy and silence.

A quick message to Wolfram on WhatsApp had secured the space.

Outside, Owen wasn’t offended. If anything, he felt a small thrill. He’d seen her today, and she’d spoken to him.

He smiled to himself, more determined than ever to catch up to her.

Meanwhile, in Class 11 of Grade 11, Zoe was addressing her classmates from the front of the room.

“Alright, everyone, listen up!” she announced. “About the new campus belle election, we all know Hannah would be the obvious choice. But she’s made it clear she’s not interested in the title. So, let’s all be cool and not nominate her, okay?”

Chapter 71

“Are we just giving up that easily?” a voice came from the doorway.

It was their homeroom teacher, Megan Lindsay, a woman in her thirties who was visibly pregnant.

She had come during the break to discuss the very same topic.

She said, “Look, this is a school event. Everyone should get involved. We’ve got plenty of good-looking students in this class. and don’t worry about the speech part. If you sign up, I’ll pull out all the stops to help you prepare.

“This is one of the few chances we have to really stand out as a class in a school-wide event.

“Let’s show everyone that while we might not be top of the class academically, we’ve got plenty else to offer.”

Megan delivered her motivational speech with palpable enthusiasm.

Zoe was immediately on her feet. “With all due respect, Ms. Lindsay, we know our limits. No sense taking on something we can’t handle.”

“Exactly,” another girl added. “We’re perfectly happy flying under the radar.”

The few girls who’d initially shown interest immediately reconsidered when they realized it would require extra coaching.

Most students here had gotten in through family connections and were just aiming to graduate with Cavalor School on their diplomas. There was no need to make things complicated.

“Wait, someone actually nominated Hannah!” a voice called out from across the classroom.

Zoe immediately pulled out her phone and opened the forum. “Who was it?”

“Can’t tell. It’s anonymous.”

“I thought they disabled anonymous nominations after the last incident?”

“Turns out that was just someone messing with the system. The IT department already fixed it.”

“Why would they bring anonymity back? The real-name system was better. At least we’d know who to blame.”

The classroom was filled with muttered complaints and frustration.

Meanwhile, an equally animated discussion was unfolding in Class 1 of Grade 11.

“Wait, Hannah from Class 11 actually entered the race?”

“You mean the real Scott family heiress who just came back? Sure, she’s pretty, but can she actually handle public speaking in front of the whole school?”

“Maybe we shouldn’t vote for her. The last thing we need is for her to embarrass the school at the anniversary ceremony.”

“Exactly. If we’re voting for anyone, it should be our class president.”

“Right, our class should be the ones representing Cavalor.”

Claudia Warren, the class monitor of Class 1, Grade 11, ranked first academically in her grade. On a 10-point scale of male aesthetic standards, her looks could easily score an 8.

Claudia was comparing the vote counts between herself and the candidates for the school’s heartthrob title. Owen and Jasper were neck and neck, far ahead of the other male contenders.

Meanwhile, her own votes were leading among the female candidates.

She was lost in a daydream about performing with Owen on the stage during the school anniversary celebration when, suddenly, Hannah emerged and immediately tied with her in the votes.

Just then, overhearing her classmates’ discussions gave her a glimmer of hope. She was about to stand up and declare she would live up to their expectations when her deskmate, Jane, interrupted her.

“I think it’s great that Hannah’s participating so enthusiastically. It shows she’s determined to improve herself, and we should encourage that kind of initiative,” Jane said, her remarks drawing curious looks from their classmates.

Those who knew Jane well were aware she’d never been fond of Hannah, which made her sudden support all the more puzzling.

“Look, I just think it’s really sad,” Jane continued, feigning sympathy. “We all know she’s the real Scott heiress, while Susie was just an impostor who stole her life.

“And now, after finally reclaiming her position, she has to face her family’s bankruptcy. Don’t you think that’s heartbreaking?”

She nearly gagged on her own words. “Seeing how hard she’s still trying despite everything… it’s inspiring, really. We should be supporting her, not bringing her down.”

The truth was, Jane would never genuinely support Hannah. But watching her embarrass herself on stage was a different story altogether.

This was her perfect revenge for the humiliation Hannah had put her through at Nexus Tower.

“That’s surprisingly kind of you, Jane. I never knew you had such a soft heart,” one classmate remarked.

That single comment was all it took to sway the room. Hannah was beautiful, but now she was also tragic, a combination too compelling to resist.

Soon, votes began flooding in for Hannah, with some students even campaigning on her behalf.
