Brenda, Tina, and the school nurse watched in stunned silence, their expressions frozen in disbelief.
Jaden’s infatuated gaze toward Hannah shattered the moment she lifted the shot put. A wave of pure terror washed over him, sending him scrambling to cover his head with both arms.
“Don’t you dare touch my son!” Stacy shrieked, throwing herself in front of Jaden as if anticipating the heavy metal ball would come flying toward them.
Being struck by such an object could indeed prove fatal.
In her frantic movement, she stumbled against the wheeled gurney where Jaden sat. The poorly balanced cot tipped sideways with a screech of protesting wheels.
With a resounding crash accompanied by startled screams, both of them tumbled to the floor in a most undignified heap.
A soft chuckle escaped Hannah’s lips as she opened her hand. The shot put fell to the ground with a dull thud that echoed through the sudden silence, making both Jaden and Stacy flinch violently.
Almost immediately, a distinct, unpleasant odor began permeating the air.
Lucian observed the scene unfold. The once-arrogant Stacy was now trembling uncontrollably, and Jaden had visibly wet himself. Lucian turned to his sister with newfound admiration shining in his eyes.
‘Now that’s my sister, he thought, a grudging smile tugging at his lips. ‘Fine, since she came through for me like this, I’ll forgive her. No more giving her the cold shoulder.’
“You psychotic bitch! Threatening us like that. I’ll have you sued into oblivion.” Stacy scrambled to her feet, dragging a pale Jaden up with her. “The principal will expel you both for this!”
“What is going on here?” A stern voice cut through the commotion.
All heads turned toward the infirmary entrance where Wolfram stood, his assistant hovering behind him.
“Mr. Croft,” the two teachers and nurse greeted in near-unison, their voices hushed with surprise and respect.
Stacy, who had never met the principal before, immediately brightened at their deferential tone. “Sir, thank goodness you’re here!
“This boy assaulted my son, and his sister just threatened us with a shot put. I demand their immediate expulsion.”
Wolfram’s gaze first found Hannah, and to everyone’s astonishment, he offered her a slight, knowing smile.
The two teachers exchanged wide-eyed looks as the famously stern principal actually smiled at a student.
Even more surprisingly, Hannah merely returned a faint, composed nod, carrying herself with such natural authority that for a moment, she appeared to be the one in charge.
“Who did this to him?” Wolfram’s gaze shifted to Lucian’s bruised face, his brow furrowing slightly as he completely disregarded Stacy’s accusations.
“He did.” Hannah gestured toward Jaden without hesitation.
Wolfram followed her gesture, his eyes briefly resting on Jaden before turning to the two teachers. “Is this accurate?”
“Yes,” they replied in unison, though something about the situation felt unresolved.

A wave of panic washed over Stacy as she recognized the dangerous direction the conversation was taking. “Wait, Mr. Croft, you can’t just take her word for it. Her brother threw the first punch.”
Wolfram turned to his assistant, his decision made. “Sean, take them to verify their class information and begin expulsion procedures. This school is for learning, not brawling.”
“Yes, Mr. Croft,” Sean replied promptly.
The word “expulsion” seemed to reverberate in the small room, draining the color from Stacy’s face.
“Mr. Croft, please, you have to understand…” she implored, reaching out impulsively to grasp his arm.
Jaden tugged urgently at his mother’s sleeve. “Mom, I can’t be expelled from Cavalor! Everyone will laugh at me. Just pay him off or do whatever it takes. You could even sleep with him…”
“Shut your mouth!” Stacy snapped, cutting him off sharply.
Wolfram’s expression darkened instantly, his posture stiffening with clear offense.
Brenda, noticing his reaction, quickly intervened. “Mrs. Kincaid, pleading with Mr. Croft won’t help. You should speak with Sean to clarify the situation.”
Flustered and desperate, Stacy pulled Jaden along as she hurried after Sean.
Seizing the opportunity to avoid Wolfram’s rising anger, the two teachers quickly excused themselves, citing the need to assist with the investigation.
A tense quiet finally settled over the infirmary.
The school nurse, a recent hire who had never encountered the headmaster before, stood frozen near the cabinets, uncertain whether to prioritize tidying the space or treating Lucian’s injuries.
“Why are you standing there? Attend to the boy at once,” Wolfram said, his voice sharp with impatience.
“Right away,” she stammered, hurrying to fetch the medical kit.
“I’ll handle it,” Hannah said calmly, taking the kit from her. She guided Lucian to lie back on the cot, then methodically prepared a gauze pad before drawing a small cloth roll from her own pocket.
As she unrolled it, an array of slender needles glinted under the light, each one varying in length.
“You practice acupuncture?” the nurse asked, unable to mask her surprise.
The fact that Hannah carried her own set of needles suggested not just familiarity, but seasoned expertise.
Hannah responded with a faint hum of acknowledgment, selecting one of the finer needles.
Lucian eyed the glint of cold steel and gulped. “Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
Before he could tense further, Hannah brought the needle toward the inner corner of his eye.
Lucian squeezed his eyes shut, suddenly convinced he’d made a terrible mistake offering himself as her test subject.
But seconds passed, and the expected sting never came.
He waited, counting each light prick that followed, dozens of subtle touches, like mosquitoes tapping against his skin.
Just as he began to relax and consider opening his eyes, Hannah’s voice cut through softly but firmly. “Don’t move.”

Then, with practiced ease, she laid a layer of gauze gently over his face.

“My God,” the nurse breathed out twenty minutes later, her eyes fixed on the white gauze covering Lucian’s face, now stained with patches of dark red. “Is he… alright?”
Hannah carefully lifted the gauze away, revealing Lucian’s face. The swelling and bruising that had marred his features had visibly receded.
While not completely healed, the angry discoloration was gone, and the puffiness had subsided.
What typically would have taken days for nature to resolve, Hannah had accomplished in under half an hour.
“Did my face get ruined?” Lucian’s eyes snapped open at the nurse’s astonished tone.
“Not at all. It’s much better!” The nurse quickly handed him a small mirror.
Lucian stared at his reflection. The swelling was gone.
He turned his gaze toward Hannah, his eyes shining with undisguised admiration.
‘She knows traditional medicine too?’ he thought, a wave of respect washing over him. ‘Just how incredible is she?’
“Thank you,” he said, the words coming out more softly than he’d intended.
Hannah paused while packing her needles and glanced at him. “Next time, don’t throw the first punch unless you’re sure you can win. Losing this badly is embarrassing.”
From the side of the room, Wolfram observed Hannah with a look of pure astonishment.
Though not trained in traditional medicine, he had read extensively on the subject Her needle technique had been precise, her selection of acupoints accurate. Her skill level rivaled that of seasoned practitioners.
The more he saw of Hannah, the more certain he became that having her at Cavalor Institute was nothing short of a rare gift.
“Hannah, a word if you don’t mind,” he said as she finished organizing her belongings.
She nodded and turned to follow him, but Lucian’s voice stopped her.
“You dropped this.” He held up a simple braided cord that had been lying on the cot.
Hannah glanced back. It was the handmade tie that had come with her canvas bag, a decorative accessory she’d removed earlier, deciding it was unnecessary.
“Keep it,” she said dismissively and walked away without a second look.
