“Who does she think she’s fooling with this cheap trinket?” Lucian muttered under his breath, though his fingers were already fastening the braided cord around his left wrist.
To his surprise, it fit perfectly, as if tailored for him.
He extended his arm, tilting it to examine the accessory from different angles before thrusting it toward the school nurse.
“Well? What do you think?” he asked, unable to completely suppress the note of pride in his voice.
The nurse, momentarily startled by his sudden change in demeanor, managed a polite smile. “It looks quite nice on you.”
“Of course it does. It was a gift from my sister,” he declared, withdrawing his hand to admire the bracelet once more. With each passing moment, the simple cord seemed to grow more appealing.
Their exchange was interrupted by a sharp knock at the door before it swung open to reveal Arthur, his expression tight with concern as he strode into the room.
“May I help you?” the nurse inquired, stepping forward.
“I’m Lucian’s brother. What exactly happened here?” Arthur’s gaze swept across the infirmary before settling on his younger brother, who was once again examining the cord on his wrist.
“Arthur? What are you doing here? Where’s Dad?” Lucian asked, lowering his arm in genuine surprise.
“There was an accident on his route. He’s stuck in traffic. He called me since I was nearby. Now, what’s going on?” Arthur moved closer, gently tilting Lucian’s chin to examine his face.
Something seemed different, but he couldn’t quite place it.
Lucian swatted his hand away impatiently. “It’s fine. Hannah already took care of it.”
The nurse, whose cheeks had taken on a faint pink hue at the sight of Arthur, stepped forward to explain. “If I may…”
As she spoke, she couldn’t help noting how exceptionally attractive the Scott family genes seemed to be.
She summarized the events concisely, and as Arthur listened, his initial concern gave way to quiet surprise and curiosity.
First, Barnaby and Magnus had stepped in to help Hannah, and now Wolfram himself was involved. It was becoming clear that Hannah was far more than she appeared to be on the surface.
“Since when did you stop hating Hannah?” He arched an eyebrow at Lucian, recalling how the latter had always dismissed Hannah as unworthy of being called his sister.
“Got a problem with that?” Lucian retorted, chin held high.
“Wait, Hannah actually reached out to you first?” Arthur couldn’t mask his surprise.
The image of Hannah’s perpetually icy demeanor flashed through his mind. She hardly seemed the type to initiate contact.
A smug grin spread across Lucian’s face as he recalled her claiming the title of his sister. “Yeah,” he confirmed, satisfaction. dripping from the single word.
He then raised his left arm, pushing up his sleeve to reveal a woven bracelet. “Well? What do you think?”
Arthur glanced at the utterly commonplace handmade bracelet and found it tacky. “Since when do guys wear this stuff? Looks cheap and feminine,” he said with clear disdain..

Unfazed, Lucian smirked triumphantly. “You’re just jealous. Hannah gave this to me. You didn’t get one.”
Hearing this, Arthur took another look at the bracelet.
“Pfft, how childish. As if I’d want one,” he retorted before turning away and opening WhatsApp to send Hannah a message.

In Wolfram’s office, Hannah sat lounging on the sofa, legs crossed, casually scrolling through her phone.
A WhatsApp notification appeared.
Arthur: [Where’s my gift?]
‘What gift?’ she wondered, replying with a question mark.
Arthur: [You gave Lucian a present. What about me?]
Hannah suddenly recalled the bracelet she’d casually handed Lucian when leaving the infirmary earlier. She hadn’t thought he’d consider it an actual gift.
But since Arthur was asking, she figured she might as well see if she had another one lying around somewhere.
“Here, Hannah. Coffee.” Wolfram finished preparing the brew and handed her a cup.
“Thanks.” She took a sip. “If this is about investing in the Scott family company again, don’t bother.”
“Not at all. I was impressed by your acupuncture skills earlier. Have you ever considered using them professionally? A friend of mine is looking for a physician.”
Wolfram had owed Hannah since his volunteer teaching days, and then again over the Owen situation. He’d been looking for a way to repay her, and ideally, draw her into his circle.
When news broke about the Scott family’s bankruptcy, he’d immediately messaged her offering help, but she’d declined without hesitation.
He soon realized he’d been too forward as Hannah wasn’t one to accept favors lightly.
“Minor ailments don’t interest me. But complex cases? I’ll consider those,” Hannah replied flatly.
Wolfram’s estimation of her rose another notch. Her confidence clearly reflected profound skill.
“My mother has been battling rheumatoid arthritis for decades. Recently, she’s been bedridden. Would you be willing to examine her at Croft Manor?” he asked.
Hannah shot him a measured look, as if suspecting this had been his real agenda all along.
Still, since he’d helped sort out the Lucian situation back at the infirmary, she gave a slight nod.
At Starlake General Hospital, Lauren was keeping watch at Malcolm’s bedside when Gemma entered the room.
“Any change?” she asked.
“Nothing yet,” Lauren replied softly.
Malcolm had slipped back into unconsciousness after Daisy’s previous visit and hadn’t stirred since.

Lauren had tentatively reached out to Daisy, who’d reassured her not to worry before rushing off to other commitments.
Not wanting to impose, Lauren hadn’t pressed further. After all, she was the one asking for favors.
“It’s been days! You should have contacted Daisy for a follow-up,” Gemma snapped impatiently.
“She’s been swamped lately…” Lauren began.
“Couldn’t you at least schedule an appointment?” Gemma cut her off sharply.
Ever since the Raven incident, everything about Lauren seemed to irritate her.
While other people’s daughters achieved remarkable things, her own remained utterly useless.
Lauren’s lips parted as if to speak, but then she closed them. In Gemma’s eyes, she’d always be inferior to her brother and even Daisy. Wordlessly, she picked up her phone and stepped out of the room.
Just as she was about to call Daisy, she spotted the doctor herself walking down the corridor, chatting amiably with an
elegant, well-dressed woman.
“Daisy!” Lauren called out immediately.
Noticing her, Daisy offered a warm smile. “Lauren.”
“My grandpa still hasn’t regained consciousness. Could you please examine him again?” Lauren pleaded, gently grasping Daisy’s hand.
Daisy’s gaze drifted toward the hospital room door, her expression momentarily distant before she regained her
composure.
She said, “Of course. Just give me a moment to finish with Mrs. Walker’s family, and I’ll be right with you.”
“Thank you,” Lauren said gratefully.
“You’re truly as remarkable as they say, Dr. Reese,” Carol Walker beside her gushed. “So skilled and compassionate.”
Daisy nodded graciously before accompanying her to another room.
An hour later, Daisy entered Malcolm’s room.
Studying the elderly man lying motionless on the bed, she frowned slightly, puzzled by his lack of progress.
But beneath the weight of Gemma and Lauren’s hopeful stares, she pushed her doubts aside and resolved to take a more aggressive approach.
