“But if your sister doesn’t show up, then the flowers you bought won’t have anyone to give them to, right?” Allison said, a little worried.

Allison glanced down at the big bouquet of pink roses in her arms, looking genuinely disappointed.

She was Lucian’s deskmate. This morning, when Lucian asked if she wanted to come watch the competition with him, she was over the moon and said yes right away.

That afternoon, before heading to the auditorium, Lucian took her to the flower shop next to the school, bought a huge bunch of pink roses, and handed them straight to her.

Back then, she was so thrilled, and honestly, a little embarrassed, too.

‘Wait, does Lucian actually like me?’ Allison’s heart skipped a beat.

‘This is perfect! I’ve already planned it all out, a Western-style wedding, two kids, the whole deal, she daydreamed, her mind running wild.

But then…

“After my sister finishes her speech, you go up and give her the flowers,” Lucian said.

Then he muttered under his breath, “It’d be way too embarrassing for a guy to walk up there with flowers.”

Allison was left speechless.

‘So I was just being used as a prop. Allison thought, her heart sinking.

Lucian hesitated for a second, then said, “Then… just throw them away.”

“Hey everyone, I’m Hannah Carter. Sorry for holding up the competition, had some personal stuff to deal with…”

Suddenly, a crisp, chilly female voice echoed from the speakers on stage.

Suddenly, the whole place went quiet as everyone turned to stare at the stage.

Except… the stage was totally empty. Not a single person in sight.

But the voice from the speakers kept going, “I’ll be there in five minutes. To save everyone’s time, I’ll just give my speech remotely…”

The audience exchanged confused glances, whispering to each other. Even the judges looked puzzled and asked the host what was going on.

The host immediately grabbed the walkie-talkie and called the sound tech backstage. “What’s happening?”

“The speakers are connected to an unknown external device. We tried to force a disconnect, but it won’t budge unless we unplug the speakers…” the tech replied.

“Don’t interfere. Let this student finish her speech in this special way,” Mr. Smith took the walkie-talkie from the host and said.

The host was surprised. ‘Wasn’t Mr. Smith here to watch Jasper’s speech?’ he wondered.

“Hello, everyone. I’m Hannah Carter from…”

Right then, Hannah’s voice started playing through the speakers, kicking off her speech.

The moment she started speaking in Thalvarin, the whole place went dead silent.

Even the six judges in the front row couldn’t help but sit up straighter.

Is that really Hannah? Her Thalvarin sounds so natural, like she’s a native. No way that’s her, right? people thought, totally

stunned.

‘Wasn’t she supposed to be that girl who flunked all her classes and couldn’t even spell a Thalvarin word? Everyone was stunned.

Just listen to that flawless accent, the way she plays with grammar, so smooth and clever. She’s even dropping words that aren’t anywhere in our Thalvarin books. Everyone was losing their minds.

Just a minute ago, they’d thought Jasper’s Thalvarin was super proper and crisp. But now, compared to Hannah, his speech sounded totally stiff and textbook-ish.

Backstage in the lounge, the students who’d already finished their speeches were all listening to the flawless Thalvarin coming through the speakers.

Everyone was freaking out, totally lost for words, except Owen, who looked like he’d just seen something amazing.

‘Wait, is that really Hannah?’ everyone thought, totally floored.

Jasper and Jane both recognized Hannah’s voice right away.

Jasper’s face looked like he’d just swallowed a fly, he was so stunned, he couldn’t even find the words.

‘Seriously? That hillbilly can speak Thalvarin, and she’s actually good at it?’ Jasper thought, totally floored.

“This is just not possible!’ he thought, his mind spinning.

“No way! That hillbilly can’t possibly speak Thalvarin this well! This has to be doctored audio!” Jane blurted out, totally in disbelief.

“With all the tech these days, one can easily clone anyone’s voice and make it sound exactly like them!”

“She’s cheating, for sure! If she’s too chicken to show up, just admit it, why go through all these theatrics?” Jane scoffed, her voice dripping with contempt.

“Do you think you own this place? Just because you say someone’s cheating doesn’t make it true!” Owen shot back, his face stormy with anger.

He hated the word “cheating”, it instantly brought back all his old humiliations.

But what pissed him off even more was someone daring to badmouth his queen right in front of him.

“But she’s not even here…” Jane said in a small, trembling voice.

She flinched, then gave Jasper a pleading, helpless look.

That delicate, vulnerable look instantly sparked Jasper’s urge to protect her, and he was still salty about only getting a 94

earlier.

“Owen, why are you always defending that hillbilly? She’s already been caught cheating before, she even copied off your test during the entrance exam. And you’re still sticking up for her? Has she got you wrapped around her finger or what?” Jasper snapped.

He kept going. “And Jane’s not wrong, either. She didn’t even show up, just sent in a recording. For all we know, that could be anyone.”

“Who’s really blinded here? That’s a whole other story,” Owen sneered, shooting Jane a look of pure disdain. He clenched his jaw and snapped, “Don’t go throwing out accusations when you don’t even know the truth!”

Owen and Jasper locked eyes, the tension between them practically sparking in the air.

The other students were totally battled. ‘Weren’t these two supposed to be best friends?’ they wondered.

How did they go from tight to ready to throw down in a heartbeat?’ everyone thought, totally lost.

“She’s not faking it, it’s legit!” Claudia’s calm voice suddenly broke through the room.

She pointed at the monitor hooked up to the front camera, which had already panned to the audience and zoorned in.

Right there, a tall figure appeared in the doorway, her expression icy and composed.

She held her phone up to her lips with long, slender fingers, her mouth moving as she kept speaking.

It was none other than Hannah.

She was dressed in Cavalor’s winter gray uniform, her pleated skirt showing off long, straight legs. Her hair was casually tied up in a bun at the back of her head.

Her cool, natural beauty was so striking that she didn’t need a single drop of makeup. Just standing there, she made the nineteen other girls who’d spent hours dolling themselves up look instantly ordinary.

Some people just hit the genetic jackpot, Hannah was one of them.

With looks like hers, she’d already won before the game even started.

“Whoa,” someone in the crowd spotted Hannah and couldn’t help but shout out.

Everyone spun around, totally shocked.

‘It’s really her!

‘And she’s actually up there, speaking in flawless Thalvarin!’ someone thought.

Hannah walked with ease, totally unfazed by the crowd. She kept going with her speech as she made her way to the stage.

Allison watched Hannah in awe, clutching the bouquet tightly as she moved to the corridor, waiting for Hannah to pass by. When Hannah came near, she handed over the flowers and whispered, “Hannah, you’re amazing!”

Hannah took the flowers with a gentle smile, never missing a beat in her speech. She walked onto the stage, and just as she stepped up, her speech came to a perfect end.

In just ten minutes, she made her way from outside all the way to the auditorium, delivering her speech flawlessly the entire time, smooth, steady, not a single slip-up. She absolutely crushed it!

Pulling off something like that took next-level concentration.

But Hannah made it look effortless, and even picked up a bouquet along the way!

“And finally, I want to thank Ms. Megan Lindsay for providing me with this wonderful speech draft,” Hannah said, then took a bow to the audience.

The whole place went eerily quiet, everyone still reeling from the fact that the “country girl” could pull off Thalvarin this

“Just to set the record straight, the speech draft was from me, but the entire Thalvarin version was translated by Hannah herself! And honestly, her translation is even better than mine!” Megan blurted out, her voice shaking with excitement.

Megan, sitting in the audience, stood up, unable to hide her excitement as she spoke.

“Excellent! Outstanding!” Mr. Smith stood up and started clapping.

Then the whole place erupted in thunderous applause that just wouldn’t quit.
