“Thank you so much, Hannah, for that amazing speech! Now, let’s see what your overall score is…” the host said with enthusiasm, reminding the six judges to submit their scores.
“Hannah, have you ever lived in Thalvar?” Mr. Smith asked, switching to flawless Thalvarin.
His accent matched Hannah’s perfectly, making it sound like they were both locals.
“No.” Hannah answered in Thalvarin.
“Where’d you learn to speak like that? Your accent is spot on!” Mr. Smith couldn’t help but marvel.
“I never really studied it. My old neighbors were from Thalvar, so I just picked it up from being around them a lot, Hannah said with a shrug.
“Oh my God, you pick things up so fast!” Mr. Smith couldn’t help but marvel.
If Hannah could speak such pure Thalvarin without ever living in an Thalvarin-speaking country or taking formal lessons, then she simply had some serious language talent.
Mr. Croft hadn’t exaggerated, this girl was a diamond in the rough.
If anyone still thought Hannah had just memorized her speech, her effortless back-and-forth with Mr. Smith in perfect Thalvarin shut down all doubts. Nobody could question her skills now.
Meanwhile, in the backstage lounge.
A girl quietly walked up to Claudia and whispered, “Claudia, why are you sticking up for Hannah?”
‘Wait, didn’t Claudia always look down on Hannah as a rival?’ she wondered to herself.
Claudia replied calmly, “She’s really impressive!”
At first, just like everyone else, she assumed Hannah was some country girl and probably wasn’t any good academically.
But after seeing Hannah nail her speech and banter with Mr. Smith like it was nothing, Claudia had to admit, Hannah was the real deal.
“Are you two still not convinced?” Owen fixed Jasper and Jane with a warning glare.
“Hannah’s not just good at Thalvarin, she does well in all her classes. Stop judging a book by its cover and making snap decisions when you don’t know the whole story. Spreading baseless rumors is ruining Cavalor’s reputation,” he said.
Jasper’s expression darkened. “Her Thalvarin might be good, but that doesn’t mean she’s any good at anything else.”
‘How could anyone from a poor rural area possibly have good grades?’ Jasper thought with disdain.
“You two just don’t learn, do you?” Owen’s face grew even darker, his voice low and cold. “When Hannah gets here, you both owe her an apology. If she forgives you, then it’s water under the bridge.”
‘But what if she doesn’t forgive us?’ Jasper worried, unease settling in.
‘Does that mean this is going to drag on forever?’ he thought, anxiety gnawing at him.
Suddenly, Jasper realized just how much trouble he was really in.
If Owen could cut him off for Hannah, there was nothing he wouldn’t do.

He remembered that Cavalor had two guaranteed spots at Holroad University every year, and Owen had intended to recommend him for one of them. They’d planned to study abroad together after the college entrance exams next year.
Now was definitely not the time to fall out with Owen.
“If that country bumpkin is really as smart as you claim, then why is she stuck in Class II? If she’s got the guts to make it into Class 1, I swear I’ll get down on my knees and apologize to her in front of everyone!”
Jane practically stomped her feet, her tone dripping with disbelief.
Seeing the results, Jane knew she was doomed to have the lowest score out of all twenty contestants. Her cheeks were burning with embarrassment, and her eyes were practically shooting daggers.
She’d set Hannah up anonymously, hoping to embarrass her in front of everyone.
But in the end, she’d only handed Hannah the spotlight, and the joke was on her. She was the real clown now.
And now they wanted her to apologize to Hannah? That just made her blood boil.
As soon as she said that, Owen’s face turned so dark it looked like thunderclouds were gathering.
Everyone stared at her like she was totally clueless. ‘How did someone with such low EQ even make it into Class 1?’ they all wondered.
Owen had already given her an out, but she just kept mouthing off. ‘Does she really not care that Owen is the Croft family’s second son?’ they thought.
Even Jasper instinctively put a little distance between himself and Jane.

On stage, the host grinned as he held up the final scores from all six judges. “Alright, everyone, let’s see what Hannah’s score
is…”
“Forget the scores! I’m announcing right now, Hannah is this year’s Campus Queen!” Mr. Smith cut in, not even letting the host finish.
The host glanced at the results and beamed. “Mr. Smith has a great eye! All six judges gave Hannah a 99, the highest score tonight! She only lost a single point because the speech wasn’t her own original work.”
“Congratulations, Hannah, on being crowned this year’s Campus Queen! Let’s hear from our new queen, Hannah, the stage is yours,” the host said, passing her the mic.
“I want to thank the college for putting this event together and giving me the chance to stand on this stage. And I also want to thank everyone who nominated me for the audition,” Hannah said, her voice calm and steady.
As she spoke, Hannah swept her cool gaze across the stage, finally locking eyes with the host before continuing.
“Everyone deserves a fair shot on stage. So tonight, I nominate the contestant with the lowest score to show us her dance moves, let’s give her another chance to shine, OK?” Hannah said, her voice cool and commanding, leaving no doubt who was in charge.
It sounded like a question, but the host couldn’t help but feel this wasn’t really up for debate.
“I think that’s a great idea. Let’s have that student come up on stage,” Mr. Smith chimed in.
The audience looked completely lost, faces full of confusion. ‘Wait, what’s happening now?’ everyone was thinking.
“Why should I dance just because you say so?” Jane shot back, her voice bristling with defiance as she was pushed onto the

stage.

“You nominated me for this, didn’t you? Wasn’t your whole plan for us to help each other out and make you look good up here?” Hannah retorted, her tone icy and unyielding.
“Who needs your so-called ‘help each other out?!” Jane snapped back, her temper flaring.
She was all awkward and uncoordinated when it came to dancing. If she had to perform in front of everyone, she’d just embarrass herself.
“Oh, so you were the one who anonymously signed me up for the contest,” Hannah said, her tone flat and unbothered.
Figuring out who had anonymously recommended her was as easy as a few keystrokes, she could’ve tracked it down in seconds if she really wanted to.
She was just setting Jane up on purpose.
“You! I… I didn’t! Stop making stuff up!” Jane blurted out, totally panicked and babbling as she got called out in front of
everyone.
“I’m not sure if Jane was the one who nominated Hannah, but she definitely asked me to vote for Hannah,” someone in the crowd spoke up.
“Same here! She kept saying Hannah’s Thalvarin wasn’t great, but since she was so determined, we ought to give her a chance,” another student added.
“Me too!”
“Me too!”
Suddenly, a bunch of hands went up, with people echoing one after another.
“So Hannah never even wanted to be in the Campus Queen contest? Jane was behind it all along?” someone blurted out, sounding shocked.
“What was she even trying to pull?” someone muttered, sounding suspicious.
“She kept telling everyone Hannah’s Thalvarin sucked, but then went around getting people to vote for her. Was she just trying to set Hannah up to fail?” someone else said, sounding skeptical.
“Well, that totally blew up in her face,” someone snickered, clearly loving the drama.
“Man, I’m still feeling the burn from that,” another person joked, making the crowd crack up.
The crowd was buzzing with gossip, and Jane’s face was burning, she couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or pure rage.
“They swore they wouldn’t tell anyone I helped rally votes for Hannah!’ Jane seethed inside, her humiliation and anger mixing into one.
“This student’s integrity is really questionable,” Mr. Smith commented, shaking his head in disapproval.
Mr. Smith’s words hit Jane like a thunderbolt, roasting her inside and out, she was left utterly humiliated, feeling like she’d just been burned to a crisp in front of everyone.
Is my shot at Cavalor’s university totally ruined now?’ Jane thought, panic clawing at her as the reality sank in.
Mr. Smith changed his tone. “Still, admitting your mistakes and making amends is a true virtue. So, Jane, you’ll dance for Hannah as your apology, and let this be a lesson to you. Don’t let something like this happen again.”
