“You ditched me, rushed back saying you wanted to see Hedy, but you were actually meeting up with that guy?” Barnaby said, his face clouded with annoyance as he glanced at Owen, who was still hanging around behind Hannah.
He’d run into Owen a few times before. Sure, Owen was Magnus’s cousin, but come on, he wasn’t as handsome, not as tall. and his physique was nowhere near Barnaby’s league.
‘She really accepted his flowers?’ Barnaby fumed inwardly, jealousy bubbling up.
He’d always thought his only rival was that piglet at home, but turned out, there was another mutt sniffing around.
“That’s my business.” Hannah replied coolly.
‘You never bothered to explain yourself when you were alone with other women,’ she thought, a hint of annoyance flickering in her mind.
Barnaby was clearly unhappy with her response. “You’re still underage, no falling for anyone yet!”
“I told you not to move around. What are you doing out here?” Hannah stood over Barnaby in his wheelchair, her voice carrying a hint of something more.
It was the dead of winter, and Barnaby was only wearing a thin gray loungewear. His hands on the armrests looked almost numb from the cold. Not a single sign of his assistant, either. How did he even get here?
His left thigh was stained with blood, pretty sure his wound had split open again.
Hannah frowned. “You want to lose your leg? Planning to spend your whole life in that wheelchair or what?”
The surgery went fine, but the wound’s still not healed. He really couldn’t afford to mess around like this.
‘Is he trying to collect more scars, or just wants to get even sicker?’ Hannah thought, rolling her eyes.
Seeing her pissed off, Barnaby dropped his gaze to his legs and muttered, “Magnus had a mission, no time for me, so he just dumped me here.”
Then he looked up at Hannah, giving her that puppy-eyed look, all innocent.
“Didn’t even take me home, just left me out here,” he complained.
Hannah was speechless.
‘Seriously, this guy’s getting way too good at milking the pity card, she thought, rolling her eyes.
Magnus had just pulled out of Skycrest House when he sneezed. Glancing in the rearview mirror, he suddenly noticed a black coat lying in the back seat.
‘Damn, when did Barnaby strip off his coat and leave it here? Magnus thought, a bit baffled.
At the entrance of the neighborhood. Hannah asked again. “Where’s Ronin?”
Barnaby didn’t even blink. “He’s on his annual leave.”
Hannah was speechless.

Ronin, who’d just been sent on a random errand to grab some bottled water from the convenience store by the gate, suddenly got a text from Barnaby
[Don’t bother coming back. You’re on leave.]
Ronin was just standing there, looking completely lost.
With a sigh, Hannah stuffed the bouquet into Barnaby’s arms, then moved behind him to push his wheelchair back into the neighborhood.
Barnaby glanced down at the flowers in his arms.
Wow, thirty pink roses, huh? Barnaby thought, a hint of sarcasm in his mind.
They stopped in front of the elevator in Building 8. As Hannah pressed the button, a sudden noise from the trash can nearby caught her attention, so she glanced over.
There was a big bouquet of flowers stuffed forcefully into the bin, a few pink rose petals scattered messily on the ground.
That was definitely her bouquet.
Hannah’s pretty, almond-shaped eyes narrowed as she shot a look at Barnaby.
“My leg was hurting, so I dropped them by accident. No big deal, I’ll just get you a new bouquet,” Barnaby said, completely unfazed.
He was already pulling up a flower shop on his phone.
Hannah was speechless.
The guy waiting for the elevator thought to himself, ‘Man, taking notes for next time!’
As soon as they reached the top floor and opened the door, the little piglet Hedy darted out to greet them.
The little guy hadn’t seen Hannah in ages, so she was absolutely thrilled, nuzzling her feet, her tiny tail wagging a mile a minute.
“Hedy, I came back just for you!” Hannah grinned, scooping her up in one arm while using the other to roll Barnaby’s wheelchair into the living room, careful not to let the piglet get underfoot.
She set Hedy down on the couch, cranked up the heater, draped a blanket over Barnaby, and made him a cup of water.
Once she was done, she scooped Hedy up again and started petting him, then casually said, “Once you’re warmed up, take your pants off. I need to check your wound.”
As soon as she said it, Hannah felt something didn’t sit right. She turned to look back.
Barnaby was sitting there in his wheelchair, not budging, just giving her a mischievous, ambiguous smile.
“My leg hurts, I can’t move. Can you help me take my pants off?” he said.
His voice was low and magnetic, drawling out the last word with a touch of spoiled charm.
Hannah was speechless.
She glanced at his thigh again. The surgery had been a rush job, and with all the sterile cloths in the way, she hadn’t really gotten a good look before.
The wound was up near the base of his left thigh, a super awkward spot.

Chapter 88
If that bullet had been just a little off, he might’ve lost way more than just some blood.
That’s just brutal.
Hannah’s heart melted a little. She set Hedy down and said. “Just a see,” then turned to grab the first aid kit.

Barnaby smirked, feeling pretty pleased with himself. He glanced at Hedy and caught himself thinking the little piglet was actually kind of cute.
But his smirk barely lasted three seconds before Hannah came back, one hand carrying the first aid kit, the other holding a pair of scissors.
She walked right up and set the scissors down on his thigh.
If anyone walked in right now, they’d probably think Hannah was about to do something totally outrageous to him.
With a few quick snips, Hannah cut a big hole in the bloody spot on his left pant leg, just enough to reveal the wound underneath.
She unwrapped the bandage, and just as she expected, the wound had split open again, blood was already seeping out.
Hannah grabbed a needle from the first aid kit and worked her magic with a few quick jabs to stop the bleeding, cleaned it up, and re-bandaged the wound.
Barnaby watched as she knelt between his legs, her long lashes casting shadows over her eyes while she tended to his wound with total focus.
His gaze drifted to the pale, delicate curve of her neck, and out of nowhere, his throat felt parched. But what really got him was when her soft, slender fingers brushed against his skin as she worked, making his whole leg tingle.
“Alright, go lie down and behave,” Hannah said, snipping the bandage before standing up.
When she looked up, she saw Barnaby giving her a strange look, something she couldn’t quite read.
Was he really in pain?’ Hannah wondered.
But she’d already numbed the area before working on the wound.
“Yeah,” he replied.
For once, Barnaby quietly rolled himself back to his room, leaving Hannah a little surprised.
Still feeling uneasy, Hannah just tossed everything back into the first aid kit, snapped the lid shut, shooed Hedy away from causing any chaos, and trailed after Barnaby into the bedroom.
In the bedroom, Barnaby was struggling to get up from his wheelchair. Hannah, worried he might mess up his wound again, rushed over to help, but she didn’t see Hedy darting underfoot and ended up tripping over the little piglet.
With a startled “oink,” Hannah crashed straight into Barnaby’s solid chest.
Barnaby let out a muffled groan as pain shot through his injured leg, and the two of them tumbled onto the bed together.
Barnaby felt something soft and warm land right on top of him, Hannah’s familiar, gentle scent filling his senses, and in an instant, all those wild dreams he’d had about her came rushing back.
“Are you okay?” Hannah panicked, trying to scramble up.
“Don’t move!” Barnaby’s voice came out low and raspy, with a possessive edge.

He stared at her delicate face, cheeks flushed, eyes misty and unfocused, and suddenly his throat tightened.
That dry feeling in his throat caught fire, blazing through him, making something deep inside start to burn out of control…
