The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

The start of the school year arrived quickly.

The Scott family had always assigned each child a car and a driver specifically for school runs.

So, during breakfast, Felicity brought up the idea of assigning a driver and car to Hannah as well.

But Aurelia was the first to object. “She hasn’t even taken the entrance exam yet. Why rush?”

Felicity was left speechless, her eyebrows drooping. She glanced at Dorian from time to time, silently hoping he would back her up.

But Dorian pretended not to notice.

He agreed with his mother.

Hannah was bound to fail the entrance exam. There was no need to make a big deal about sending her; it would only invite ridicule and disgrace the Scott family’s reputation.

“Hannah, you can ride in my car,” Susie offered with apparent kindness.

“No need. Someone’s picking me up,” Hannah declined.

Susie’s warm offer was met with cold rejection, leaving her hesitant.

But to keep up appearances, she pulled out a folder and handed it to Hannah. “These are some past test papers Owen did.

“He’s always been a top student at Cavalor. Maybe they’ll help you prepare for your exam.”

To everyone else, this act seemed thoughtful and kind.

Hannah put down her utensils abruptly, stood up, and left without even glancing at the folder Susie held.

“What kind of attitude is that? Girls from the slums have no manners,” Aurelia slammed the table in displeasure.

“Hannah, don’t be angry. You can ride in my car. No need to take a taxi,” Susie quickly put down her utensils and hurried after Hannah, beating Felicity to it.

Susie played her role as the considerate, obedient girl flawlessly.

But by the time Susie actually chased outside, Hannah had already gotten into a black stretch limousine.

The car bore the Lincoln emblem.

Susie barely caught sight of the license plate before the vehicle disappeared around a corner.

The Scott family’s status in Brynlock, politely put, was wealthy aristocracy, but just barely.

The cars that the family provided their children were only mid-range BMWs costing a few hundred thousand dollars.

‘How does Hannah afford such a fancy ride? Susie wondered.

In her mind, the car picking up Hannah had to be one she ordered online herself.

She wondered, ‘Otherwise, how could a girl fresh out of the slums know someone with a luxury car in Brynlock? Especially a stretch Lincoln that even I have never ridden in.

‘Could she have hooked up with some nouveau riche as a mistress? If that’s true, well, good for her.’

Just as Susie was lost in speculation, a red Ferrari pulled up in front of her.

The door opened, and a pair of long legs clad in white leather shoes and slim white trousers stepped out, followed by a cute-looking young man.

“Miss, hello. Did your family get a new girl a few days ago?” he asked.

Susie blinked, surprised. “Mr. Croft?”

“You know me?” Magnus asked in astonishment.

He had joined the military at fourteen and rarely came to Brynlock, so he didn’t recall ever meeting this girl.

‘Could she be the girl who saved Boss that day?’ Magnus wondered.

“Yes, I’ve met you before.” Susie nodded.

Magnus belonged to the Croft family, one of the Four Great Families, and heir to its legacy. She’d seen his photo before.

“You’ve

got sharp eyes. My face was a mess that day, yet you recognized me,” Magnus smiled.

He recalled only catching a glimpse of the girl’s back when he got off the helicopter.

Her height and build matched the girl in front of him.

‘Her looks were pretty average. Honestly, she could just barely hold her own next to Boss’s breathtaking face. It must be her,’ Magnus thought.

“That day?” Susie was confused inside.

She quickly realized Magnus might have mistaken her for someone else, but she kept a sweet smile on her face, saying nothing.

“Thank you for saving our Boss. Boss asked me to return this to you,” he added.

Magnus handed Susie a cleaned cloth strip.

‘Boss? The only person Magnus would call Boss must be a member of the Thole family, head of the Four

Great Families, Susie thought.
