The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Chapter 90

“Eat your breakfast, and take your medicine after. I’ll try to get back early,” Hannah said helplessly.

Barnaby slowly pushed himself up. his deep eyes locking onto her. “It hurts. You have to feed me”

Hannah glanced at the notebook he’d just put on the nightstand and reminded him, “Mr. Thole, your leg’s hurt, not your

hands.”

“My leg hurts so bad, even my hands feel weak. If you don’t feed me, I’m not eating.” Barnaby said, making a show of flopping back onto the bed.

Hannah was at a loss for words.

Here we go again, Barnaby, the king of acting pitiful, Hannah thought.

Seeing she wasn’t falling for it, Barnaby added, “It’s not like I’ll starve from missing one meal.”

Hannah was speechless.

She glanced at the clock. If she kept up this standoff, she’d be stuck here all morning. Resigned, she picked up the bowl of porridge and started feeding him.

Barnaby dragged out breakfast for a full forty minutes, taking his sweet time with every bite.

Before she left, Barnaby said, “I’ve called a car for you. It’s waiting downstairs. The driver will take you there and back. Come home early, okay? I’ll be waiting for you.”

Barnaby leaned against the headboard, looking at Hannah with puppy-dog eyes, as if he couldn’t bear to let her go.

‘Why does it feel like I’m taking care of an overgrown baby?’ she thought.

Hannah had arranged to meet Felicity at the entrance of Starlake General Hospital, and Lucian came along with her.

“Why’d you bail on me yesterday?” Lucian griped the moment he saw Hannah. “You didn’t even come home last night. I wasted money on a cake for your birthday and everything!”

Hannah, seeing his sulky face, fished out two chocolate candies from her pocket and handed them over. “Here, take these and quit whining.”

She’d grabbed a few extras when she was bribing Barnaby to take his meds earlier, and just shoved them in her pocket.

“Next time, can you bring me a real present? You always treat me like I’m some little kid,” Lucian muttered, but he clung to the candies like they were treasure.

He even snapped a pic and posted it to his feed: [She actually brought me a gift, so I guess I’ll forgive her. ]

The three of them made their way to Aurelia’s hospital room.

Aurelia had a VIP room all to herself, with a caregiver who usually took turns with Felicity to look after her. Right now, the night shift caregiver had already left.

“Mom, Hannah and Lucian came to see you,” Felicity called out.

Felicity casually set the soup she’d brought down on the table.

“Lucian, come here and let Grandma see if you’ve gotten any taller. I’ve missed you so much, Aurelia said, smiling and beckoning him over.

Aurelia was lounging in bed, grinning as she beckoned Lucian over

Lucian went over, calling out, “Grandma!”

After a bit of small talk, Aurelia calmly turned to Felicity

“Seriously, why’d you bring Lucian here? Hospitals are crawling with germs, and his immune system’s so weak. His rhinitis will flare up again in no time.” Aurelia said.

Felicity made a face. She hadn’t planned on bringing Lucian, but the moment he heard Hannah was coming, he just wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Grandma, it’s not Mom’s fault. I wanted to come see you, and my rhinitis is all better now,” Lucian explained, looking

earnest.

“Really?” Aurelia said, raising an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.

Lucian was born premature, so he’d always been kind of weak, and his chronic rhinitis just kept coming back no matter how many doctors they saw. It never got better for good.

‘Did he finally run into some miracle doctor or something?’ Aurelia wondered.

“Yeah! Hannah cured me!” Lucian said, giving Hannah a proud look. “She’s here to treat you today, Grandma.”

Ever since Hannah gave him acupuncture at the school clinic, not only did the bruises on his face fade away, but even his rhinitis was cured!

That’s why he had so much faith in Hannah as a doctor.

“Hannah?” Aurelia finally looked her way, her voice thick with sarcasm. “Well, what wind blew you in today?”

Since Aurelia had been hospitalized, this was the first time Hannah had come to see her. The resentment had been simmering in her heart the whole time.

So from the moment they walked in, she’d been purposely giving Hannah the cold shoulder.

She was putting on a show, clearly trying to put Hannah in her place from the get-go.

But Hannah didn’t give her attitude a second thought. She dragged over the only chair in the room, plopped down, propped up her legs, and started playing a game on her phone.

She was basically telling them, ‘Let me know when you’re done talking, then maybe I’ll pay attention.’

Hannah was the type to keep her promises, she was only here because she’d told Felicity she would. If not for that, she wouldn’t have wasted a second on this cranky old lady.

That attitude of hers almost had Aurelia springing out of bed in rage.

“What kind of attitude is that? People from the boonies just don’t know how to act!” Aurelia snapped.

“Mom, please don’t be like this. Hannah came all the way here to see you, and to treat you,” Felicity hurried to explain.

“Treat me? With those backwoods folk remedies she learned out there? You just want her to finish me off, don’t you? Get her out of my sight! Just looking at her gives me a headache,” Aurelia shot back, her words sharp as knives.

Then she glanced at the door. “Where’s Susie? Why hasn’t she come to see me in ages?”

Lucian frowned, clearly annoyed. “Grandma, don’t you know? Susie’s the one who ruined our family and made us go bankrupt. She already ran back to whatever backwater she came from…”

“Lucian!” Felicity tried to cut him off, but it was too late.

“What did you just say?!” Aurelia’s cloudy old eyes went wide, her chest rising and falling with each breath.

“The Scott family is bankrupt? When did that happen? Why am I the last to know?!” Suddenly, her faded eyes snapped to Felicity, full of suspicion. “Felicity, just how much have you been keeping from me?”

“Mom, please don’t get upset. I only kept it from you because I was worried it would affect your recovery, Felicity hurried to explain.

The Scott family might be broke, but they still had Arthur in their corner.

Arthur’s business overseas was doing great. When the Scott family went bankrupt, he covered most of the debts, leaving just a small chunk for Dorian to deal with.

Arthur was also the one paying for Aurelia’s medical bills, which was the only reason she could still stay in a VIP room. Otherwise, the hospital would’ve kicked her out ages ago.

Felicity was worried that if Aurelia found out about the bankruptcy, it would make her health even worse, so she’d kept it from her all this time.

Aurelia never bothered with the news anyway. Every day, after eating, she’d just stroll around the hospital garden with her neighbor, Mr. King, living a life just as comfortable as if she were at home.

Telling her now that the Scott family was bankrupt and all her wealth was gone would hit her even harder than when she found out Hannah had cheated.

She couldn’t catch her breath, her eyes rolled back, her head slumped to the side, and she just fainted.

“Mom! Mom!” Felicity instantly pressed the call button by the bed, panic in her voice.

“Grandma?” Lucian shook Aurelia, his voice shaky when she didn’t respond. “Hannah, come here and check on Grandma!”

Annoyed by the commotion, Hannah let out an impatient tsk. ‘She’s not dying,’ she muttered to herself.

Unbothered, she put away her phone at her own pace, stood up, and strolled over to the bed. Lucian quickly made room for

her.

Hannah pulled out her acupuncture kit from her bag and laid it open.

Her graceful fingers picked up a needle and began locating the acupoint.

“What’s going on?” Just then, a nurse rushed in, having heard the call button.

The nurse burst through the door, just in time to see Hannah already applying a needle to Aurelia. Her eyes went wide in
