The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 95

Chapter 95

Chapter 95

By the time Hannah got back to the Skycrest House, it was already dark outside.

She opened the door and saw the living room lights were on Hedy scampered out, nuzzling Hannah’s feet.

“Hedy, was your daddy good today?” Hannah picked her up, changed her shoes at the entrance, and walked inside

Hedy grunted. If she could talk, she’d totally complain. Barnaby was not good at all! He went out, brought someone home, and locked me in my pen. He wouldn’t let me play in the living room!

Hannah walked into the living room and instantly caught sight of Barnaby sitting in his wheelchair.

He was still in the same black pajamas from this morning. Under the lights, his skin looked almost porcelain, and even the shoes on his feet looked stylish.

“Why are you out of bed?” Hannah asked, setting Hedy down. She took off her own coat, hung it up, then grabbed another and draped it over Barnaby’s shoulders.

Even though the house was warm, he’d just gotten over a serious illness. Wearing so little, he could easily catch a chill.

Barnaby brushed his hand over the coat on his shoulders, a small smile appearing. “I wanted you to see me the moment you walked in.”

Hannah just stared at him, at a loss for words.

Barnaby looked her up and down, then glanced at the entryway, noticing she hadn’t brought anything back with her.

“Where’s the gift?” he asked, his eyes shining with anticipation as he looked at Hannah.

‘There he goes again with that word!’ Hannah thought.

“What gift?” Hannah replied coolly, turning to the kitchen to see if there was anything left in the fridge.

…Seriously? Barnaby couldn’t believe it.

“Wait, what?!’ Barnaby’s eyes widened.

‘The driver literally said she got out of the car with a gift just ten minutes ago!’ Barnaby thought, feeling a little anxious.

‘How could the gift just vanish in ten minutes?’ Barnaby was starting to get suspicious.

‘Did she secretly give it to that jerk while I wasn’t looking?’ Barnaby’s mind grew even more uneasy.

The memory of Owen handing her flowers at the gate yesterday made Barnaby’s eyes turn cold, and his expression darkened.

He pulled out his phone and fired off a text to Wolfram.

Barnaby: [Keep your son in check.]

Wolfram: [What?]

“Did you just go back to the Scott family today?” Barnaby rolled his wheelchair over to the kitchen doorway.

Hannah was busy tossing out the spoiled veggies from the fridge, not even bothering to turn around. “Don’t you already

know?”

Chapter 95

She didn’t buy for a second that the driver was just someone Barnaby happened to call

Barnaby hadn’t expected Hannah to be this sharp. Now that she’d called him out, she wasn’t even mad. She just dropped the

act.

“I can help you with the police investigation,” Barnaby offered.

“That’s not necessary,” Hannah replied.

Yvette and her mother were already dead. There was nothing left to uncover from their bodies, so she had to look for clues elsewhere.

Barnaby just stared at her, speechless.

‘Does she not trust me?’ he wondered.

“So, who’s the lucky guy you bought a gift for?” Barnaby pressed.

Hannah just gave him a look, totally speechless.

‘Is he seriously circling back to this?’ Hannah thought.

“Why don’t you guess?” Hannah shot back.

Barnaby was left hanging.

‘Damn bastard!’ Hannah thought.

Meanwhile, Arthur attended a party thanks to a friend’s introduction.

He’d just opened a new branch in the country and was looking to build connections. As it turned out, there were people at the party interested in partnering with him, mutually beneficial for everyone involved.

Arthur pushed open the door to the private room, and his buddy instantly threw an arm around his shoulder. “Yo, Arthur’s here! Guys, say hi!”

“Sorry, something came up,” Arthur said as he pulled off his suit jacket.

Someone clocked the watch on his left wrist and stepped up to shake his hand. “Arthur, you’ve got killer taste. That Rolex is worth several million, totally matches your vibe.

“Man, that’s a serious flex! This is the only one in the world. Can’t believe you’re the one who snagged it.

“That’s so Arthur, always knows how to pick the best.”

People started sucking up, and the ones hoping to work with him quickly chimed in.

“Oh, really? Thanks,” Arthur said with a smile, then flipped his wrist. “So, what do you guys think of these cufflinks?”

The suck-ups glanced at them and were left speechless.

‘Seriously? Aren’t these just some plain old cufflinks?’ one of them thought.

Compared to that million-dollar watch, they looked totally dull.

They even looked kind of cheap.

But these guys were all smooth operators. Since they wanted to get in Arthur’s good graces, and figured he wouldn’t bring up the cufflinks for nothing, they started laying on the flattery.

“These cufflinks might not be as pricey as the watch, but whoever picked them has seriously good taste!”

“Check out the design, so detailed, it’s like they were custom-made for Arthur.”

“They really suit Arthur’s style.”

Arthur knew they were just sucking up, but he was in a good mood. “My sister gave them to me,” he said.

Mouthe

The guys exchanged glances. Hearing Arthur had stayed in the country and opened the branch for his sister, everyone was secretly relieved.

We almost put our foot in our mouth with all that flattery. Good thing we dodged a bullet, they thought.

At the Baker family, Stacy Kincaid walked into the Baker Villa’s main hall with Jaden in tow, both of them loaded down with shopping bags.

She was Gemma’s cousin, and since she was always trying to get in good with the Baker family, she’d been here so many times she practically knew the place by heart.

Gemma took a look at all the stuff Stacy brought in and smiled, “Stacy, you always go overboard, seriously, you don’t have to bring a mountain of gifts every time you visit.”

“Oh, it’s no big deal,” Stacy replied, cheerfully unloading the bags onto the coffee table one after another.

“I heard Malcolm’s been feeling much better lately, so I picked up something, perfect for helping him get his strength back.”

“This blood bird’s nest and donkey-hide gelatin are for you, Gemma, gotta keep you glowing and beautiful! And this Montblanc pen is for Jasper, wishing him top marks in next year’s exams. And, well, this one here…”

Gemma watched as Stacy listed out all the expensive gifts she’d brought for everyone in the Baker family. It was obvious she was buttering them up for a favor.

“That’s very thoughtful of you, Stacy,” Gemma said with a smile, then glanced over at Jaden, who was busy gaming on the couch. “How’s Jaden doing in school lately?”

“Jaden, greet your Aunt Gemma,” Stacy urged her son.

“Hi, Aunt Gemma,” Jaden muttered, then buried himself right back in his game.

“Gemma, honestly, Jaden got into some drama at school with another kid, and that kid’s sister somehow managed to charm Mr. Croft. Next thing you know, Jaden’s expelled.” Stacy said, looking seriously worried.

Gemma’s interest was instantly hooked. “Who could pull that off? Someone actually got Mr. Croft to fall for them?”

In Gemma’s mind, Wolfram Croft was always the definition of uptight, never smiled, all business, no nonsense. ‘No way anyone could get to him, Gemma thought, totally floored.

“You know her too. It’s the true heiress the Scott family brought back from countryside, Hannah Carter,” Stacy explained.

“What?!” Gemma blurted out, totally floored.

Just then. Jasper came downstairs and caught what was said. He looked just as shocked as Gemma.

“Jasper!” Stacy’s eyes lit up when she saw him, and she nudged Jaden. “Jaden, say hi to Jasper.”

“Hi, Jasper,” Jaden said, putting his phone away.

“What’s going on?” Jasper asked, his face serious.

66 vauchets

“That hillbilly Hannah, not only is she trying to hook up with Owen, now she’s got her sights set on Mr. Croft too? Jasper thought, completely stunned. ‘Is she really that shameless?’

Stacy immediately started gossiping, making the whole thing sound way more dramatic than it actually was.

“That wild girl again!” Gemma’s eyes were practically dripping with venom.

Jasper’s eyes lit up as he listened. “Is all of that true?”
