The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 96

Chapter 96

Chapter 96

“Of course it’s true! Why else would Mr. Croft show up himself for that slut?” Stacy snapped.

She was dead sure it was Hannah who had gone after Wolfram.

That woman had already stirred up trouble at the Baker family’s party, totally embarrassing the Bakers and throwing them into a mess. Gemma had lost it over that and now hated Hannah with a passion

Now, if Stacy could just get Gemma riled up again and team up with her, everything else would be a piece of cake.

“I was just thinking about how to ruin that little brat for good, and now she’s practically handing herself over!” Gemma narrowed her eyes, gritting her teeth.

“She just walked right into it,” Jasper muttered under his breath, fists clenched tight.

He’d been stressing over how to expose Hannah and make up with Owen to snag that Holroad University recommendation, and now the perfect chance had just landed in his lap.

“Jasper, you and Owen are pretty tight, right? Could you please talk to him for me and help me get back into Cavalor School? I swear, if I get another chance, I’ll actually hit the books and stay out of trouble!” Jaden begged.

“That’s right, Jasper, you and Owen are close. Can you help us out and put in a good word? Jaden really can’t afford to leave Cavalor School,” Stacy pleaded.

This was exactly why they’d come here.

Jaden had been expelled from Cavalor School, and none of the other private schools wanted him. As for public school, with his grades, he’d be totally humiliated, and there was no way he’d ever go.

“Well…” Jasper looked a bit uneasy.

He hadn’t told anyone that Owen had stopped talking to him.

He was confident Owen would forgive him soon, so there was no need to let anyone know and become a laughingstock.

“It’s nothing serious. Jasper can just talk to Owen about it another day. Let’s just wait and see,” Gemma said, not even giving Jasper a chance to refuse.

Jasper could only stare, lost for words.

Stacy’s face lit up. “Thank you, Gemma, thank you, Jasper.”

“Thanks, Jasper!” Jaden said excitedly. “My mom said one of the two guaranteed spots for Holroad University next year is yours. She told me to learn from you so I can get in too.”

“Heh, no problem,” Jasper said with an awkward smile.

Jasper felt even more determined to expose Hannah’s hypocrisy and patch things up with Owen. If he didn’t, he’d end up as the joke of high society.

Monday.

Hannah had just finished breakfast and was about to head out to school when Barnaby rolled out of his room in his wheelchair.

“I’ll take you,” he said.

Hannah glanced at him. He looked so unfairly handsome it was almost criminal, gold-rimmed glasses on that flawless face, short hair styled with wax, a tailored black suit hugging his frame, and a gray plaid cashmere blanket over his legs

If he wasn’t sitting in a wheelchair, she’d honestly think he was headed for a movie premiere or something.

Seriously, who’s actually escorting who here?’ Hannah thought, a little lost for words.

“I happen to need to go to Cavalor School for something too,” Barnaby said, like he could see right through what Hannah was thinking.

After a couple days of rest, his wounds had healed quite a bit, and Hannah wasn’t restricting him anymore, she just quietly

allowed it.

As they walked downstairs and got close to the entrance, they spotted a yellow Ferrari parked out front. Owen was standing by the car, scanning the entrance, looking around for someone.

When he saw Hannah, his eyes lit up and he waved at her. “Hey, Hannah!”

But when he noticed Barnaby, his smile faded a little.

‘So they really are living together?’ Owen thought, a bit taken aback.

That Friday night, after dropping Hannah off, he’d watched the two of them head into the complex, and even stuck around at the entrance until midnight, but Hannah never came back out.

He still wasn’t sure what exactly was going on between Hannah and Barnaby, but he liked to think they were just relatives, and Hannah was only there to help out because Barnaby was injured.

“Why are you here?” Hannah asked coolly.

“I was just passing by and thought you might not have left for school yet, so I waited to see if we could go together,” Owen said with a bashful smile. He then nodded politely at Barnaby. “Morning, Mr. Thole. How’s your leg doing?”

“Coming from your family’s place to here and then to Cavalor School, you’d be taking a fifty-kilometer detour, wouldn’t you?” Barnaby said, eyebrow raised.

His voice was smooth but icy, not bothering to sugarcoat it as he straight-up exposed Owen’s excuse.

‘Seriously, this guy thinks he can fool me with tricks I’ve already seen a hundred times, Hannah thought, her eyes full of mockery.

Hannah could only stare, lost for words.

Owen was speechless.

His little scheme exposed, Owen looked a bit awkward.

But this guy was Barnaby, the seventh son of the Thole family, even his own father and big brother had to give him a wide berth. Owen knew better than to mess with him.

Plus, he still had no idea what kind of relationship Hannah had with Barnaby.

“If you’re supposed to be the driver, why are you just standing there?” Barnaby said, his tone icy and impatient.

Barnaby’s sharp, cool gaze swept Owen up and down, like he was quietly checking to see if Hannah had given him anything.

“That’s not true! I didn’t do anything! Don’t go making stuff up!’ Owen panicked inside.

Hannah glanced at Barnaby in surprise, then checked her ride app. It was rush hour and no driver had picked up her

request, so she just canceled it.

“Thanks.” Hannah said to Owen.

Owen quickly opened the back door, then helped Hannah get Barnaby settled in the back seat. He folded up the wheelchair and stashed it in the trunk.

An almost ceric silence filled the car. Hannah and Barnaby sat in the back, each absorbed in their phones, while Owen drove up front, gritting his teeth, he really had become their driver, completely invisible in his own car.

Twenty minutes later, Owen dropped Hannah off in front of the building primarily for Grade 11 classes.

After Hannah got out and shut the door, Owen called out from the front seat, “Mr. Thole, where do you want to go?”

Barnaby, still focused on his phone and not bothering to look up, replied coolly, “Take me back to Skycrest.”

‘Is this guy for real?’ Owen thought, feeling completely played.

‘Class is about to start, if I have to make another run, I’m definitely going to be late.’

“Didn’t you have something to take care of at the school?” Owen asked, trying to keep his tone polite.

“It’s already done,” Barnaby replied, still not looking up from his phone.

‘He didn’t even step out of the car, how the hell did he get anything done?’ Owen thought, completely speechless. ‘Is this guy just messing with me or what?’

“Class starts in five minutes. Want me to call a driver to take you back instead?” Owen asked, sounding pretty desperate.

Barnaby glanced at his watch. “If you keep hesitating for another two minutes, you’ll get back just in time to miss your first class.”

His tone left no room for argument.

Owen was fuming inside, but he kept his mouth shut, no way was he going to risk ticking off Barnaby. So he just turned the car around and obediently drove him back to Skycrest, swallowing his frustration the whole way.

When they finally arrived at Skycrest House, Barnaby got out of the car.

He gave Owen a frosty glance and said, “If you enjoy being a driver so much, why not go register as a ride-share driver?”

Owen was so frustrated he could’ve coughed up blood. Now he finally realized, Barnaby was deliberately making things difficult for him.

‘Is this all just because I pretended to have a reason to pick up Hannah?’ Owen thought, feeling utterly defeated.

Owen clenched his fists, steeling himself before he finally blurted out, “Mr. Thole, hope you don’t mind me asking, but… what’s going on between you and Hannah?”
