Chapter 113 The Dean’s Scolding

“It’s just a tiny scratch, nothing serious.”

Hallie brushed a hand over her face with an unbothered smile.

There was a faint, crusted scratch mark on her cheek. It was barely noticeable, yet Zora still felt terrible seeing it.

The whole group was led into the dean’s office and given a stern lecture.

All the students who’d joined the brawl were ordered to write a reflection paper and dismissed soon after. Only the four main people involved-Zora, Hallie, Jolie, and Tessa-were kept behind.

“Mr. Brooks, hey! I fought too, can’t I stay here too? You’re only keeping them back; it makes me feel left out!”

Easton lingered by the office door, bargaining with Gordon.

“Smart mouth! Your reflection paper’s doubled in length!”

Gordon’s eyelids twitched in annoyance, picking up a feather duster as if ready to swat at him.

Standing outside, Felix quickly tugged Easton back.

“Get out of here, both of you.”

Gordon huffed, tapping the doorframe sharply with the duster and shooting them a cold glare.

“Hmph, keep being this cranky and you’ll end up with early-onset dementia,” Easton muttered without a shred of fear, letting out a quiet scoff.

He was easygoing and had crossed paths with Gordon many times before, speaking to him like an old acquaintance.

“Get lost right now! Felix, take him away and make sure he writes a thousand-word reflection!”

Gordon was thoroughly infuriated by the boy’s cheek.

“Wait, Mr. Brooks! It was supposed to be 500 words! That’s not fair!”

Easton’s eyes went wide in protest.

“It’s doubled now! Every missing word means extra detention!”

Gordon’s temples throbbed with frustration, the feather duster cracking loudly against the doorframe.

“Alright, alright, 1,000 words, got it.”

Not wanting to push Gordon further over the edge, Easton agreed quickly.

He then dragged Felix out of the dean’s sight, hiding nearby to sneak a look at what was happening inside the office.

With Easton gone and his petty tantrum over, most of Gordon’s anger faded. He turned to the four girls standing before him, his tone much calmer.

“Wait for your homeroom teachers to arrive. You’re all old enough to know better than getting into physical fights at school.”

His gaze fell on Hallie next.

She stood tall and straight, one arm folded across her chest and the other hand in her pocket. She showed no regret at all, looking rather proud they’d won the fight. She even glanced disdainfully toward Jolie and Tessa.

The sight gave Gordon a headache.

“Stand properly, Hallie.”

“You even want to control how I stand now, Mr. Brooks?”

Hallie glanced back at him casually.

Gordon frowned sharply.

Hallie dropped her crossed arm and pulled her hand out of her pocket, obeying at last.

His gaze then shifted to Zora, who looked small and vulnerable. He softened his tone without realizing it.

“And you, conflicts can always be talked through peacefully. Why resort to throwing hands at the first disagreement?”

Zora’s face was smudged with faint dust, her loose, messy bun slipping lopsidedly atop her head with stray strands falling across her forehead. She looked utterly helpless and innocent.

To Gordon, she seemed like such a well-behaved young girl-he could hardly believe she’d slapped someone without hesitation earlier.

Zora simply nodded quietly, offering no argument.

Her meek manner melted the stern edge from Gordon’s expression.

Compared to Zora and Hallie, who looked quietly triumphant after winning the fight, Jolie and Tessa appeared far worse off.

Jolie’s cheek was swollen; Zora had hit her with full force. Jolie had always framed Zora for every little mishap back at the Knox Villa, and now she’d gone out of her way to bully Zora’s best friend. Old grudges mixed with fresh anger had made Zora strike without holding back.

Jolie’s hair was a tangled mess, her eyes red and puffy from crying. She glared furiously at Zora and Hallie, looking ready to lash out again any second.

Gordon could tell she was the troublemaker in this mess, certain she would stir up more problems sooner or later.

He sighed inwardly at the sight of her. Raised by the Knox family, she had no kindness in her heart at all. She put on a gentle act on ordinary days, yet her true, bitter temper surfaced the moment trouble arose.

Gordon felt a clear dislike toward her.

Even stuck in the dean’s office, she still threw petty tantrums as if everyone owed her something.

Tessa was in no better shape, with faint scratch marks on her face and her hair pulled messy from the scuffle.

Still, she stayed by Jolie’s side, murmuring quiet comfort to her.

“Mr. Brooks, my apologies for all the trouble my students have caused. I can assure you the kids in my class are all good-natured and would never start a fight for, no reason.”

Clark’s voice echoed from down the hallway before he even stepped into the office. He hurried inside.

He’d been resting in the staff lounge when he was suddenly called to the dean’s office, told his students had gotten into a brawl with Class 2.

He’d left without even finishing his lunch and rushed straight over.

On the way, he’d run into the other students from his class who’d already been dismissed. After hearing the full story, it was clear Class 2 was entirely in the wrong.

He couldn’t stand seeing his students being insulted for no reason.

Clark was naturally protective of every kid in his class.
