Chapter 116 Being Pampered by a Mother

The woman looked to be in her early thirties. Dressed in a navy dress, she wore her long hair pinned back with a tasseled hairpin, revealing a delicate, gentle face. A pearl necklace rested against her smooth neck, lending her an air of refined elegance.

“My dearest mother, you’re finally here! I’m starving.”

Hallie brightened up the moment she heard the voice and stood up to greet her.

“Spare me the sweet talk. You’d only just settled down for barely a week into the new semester, and now I’m back in the school office again.”

Elara Sloan shot her daughter a reproachful look and handed over the pastry box she carried. “Here, share these with your friend.”

She then turned to Clark with a polite smile. “Mr. Wyatt, I’m truly sorry for causing you trouble.”

“It’s no trouble at all, Mrs. Sloan,” Clark smiled gently. “Please have a seat. We’ll sort this out properly once the other parents arrive.”

“C’mon, Mom, sit right here-I saved you the best spot.” Hallie tugged Elara toward her chair.

“Quit pulling me around.” Elara shrugged her off lightly. “I’m always stuck cleaning up your messes. Wait till your father gets home; you can explain this to him.”

She’d been enjoying a peaceful lunch when her troublesome daughter landed herself in yet another school fight.

“I wasted my time sending you to basic training. You even got a scratch on your face-totally useless. Once the SATs are over, you’re going back to your uncle’s unit for real discipline.”

Elara glared at her, noticing the faint scratches on her face.

She hadn’t even won the fight.

“Mom, it was just a girl fight,” Hallie sighed helplessly. “I couldn’t exactly use combat moves- that’d just be picking on them unfairly.”

Elara still looked displeased.

“Mom, my friend’s right here,” Hallie whispered quickly into her ear. “Save me some dignity, okay?”

She then turned to Zora, who had stood up, and made the introduction. “Zora, this is my

mom.”

“Hello, Mrs. Sloan,” Zora said softly, her face filled with guilt. “This whole thing is my fault. Hallie only fought because of me-please don’t be upset with her.”

Elara’s eyes lit up the instant she laid eyes on Zora, then softened with pity at the girl’s dusty. disheveled appearance. “Oh, honey, come here, let me look at you. Poor thing, you’re all covered in grime.”

She gently cupped Zora’s soft cheeks with her hands and brushed away the dust smudged on her face.

A faint, sweet fragrance lingered around Zora, warm and comforting. Elara’s palms were soft and smooth as they stroked Zora’s skin lightly.

Zora’s eyelashes fluttered. She lifted her gaze to meet the beautiful woman’s kind eyes, caught off guard by such gentle treatment.

It was all because of her that Hallie had gotten into trouble. Shouldn’t this woman be upset with her instead?

“All clean now.” Elara wiped the smudges off Zora’s face and smiled softly at her. “There’s my pretty girl again. C’mere, let me give you a little kiss.”

Elara couldn’t help but grow fonder by the second as she looked at the lovely, delicate Zora. The girl’s skin felt silky and smooth beneath her fingers, like premium satin. Unable to resist the impulse, she leaned down and planted a soft, loud kiss on Zora’s cheek.

“You’re absolutely adorable. Tell me, sweetie, which family do you belong to? Wanna come home with me? I’ve got tons of pretty dresses, jewelry, anything you want is yours.”

Elara was utterly delighted after stealing the kiss. She bent down to meet Zora’s gaze, her voice gentle and warm, already wanting to take Zora home with her for good.

Hallie stared in utter shock at her mother’s boldness. Her mom really had no restraint at all.

“Zora, don’t mind her.” Hallie quickly pulled Elara back a little and explained awkwardly to Zora, “My mom’s a total sucker for pretty faces, and you’re way too gorgeous for her to resist.”

“It’s fine,” Zora murmured shyly, still feeling the warmth of the kiss on her cheek. This lady was just like Hallie.

After Hallie’s casual displays of closeness, Zora had grown used to it, and Elara’s affection didn’t fluster her anymore.

Having such a beautiful lady kissing her felt like a blessing anyway.

More than that, Elara’s kindness was genuine-her voice soft, her gaze warm.

It gave Zora the feeling of being pampered by a mother, the way Wendy always treated Jolie.

But Zora had never been treated with such tenderness.

A faint glimmer of quiet joy flickered in Zora’s eyes as she stared at Elara.

“Mom, please sit down already.”

Hallie waited until her mom settled down before opening the pastry box layer by layer. A rich, sweet aroma filled the air at once: mango cream waffles, matcha frozen yogurt, chocolate pancake puffs, honey brioche toast, and sweet potato butter croissants.

“Mr. Wyatt, please have some-you’ve had a hard day.” Hallie served a small plate of assorted pastries to Clark first.

She then fixed another portion and handed it to Grace. “Ms. Voss, please have some too.”
