Chapter 151 Hidden Brain Clot

By the time they arrived, Tessa had already been transferred out of the intensive care unit.
She lay motionless in the ward, still unconscious.
Hugo, Tessa’s adopted elder brother, kept watch outside the ward, his eyes bloodshot from exhaustion.
“I warned her Jolie would drag her into trouble sooner or later, but she just wouldn’t listen.”
Hallie felt utterly exasperated at Tessa’s stubbornness.
Jolie had shoved her without any warning the previous day, and no one knew what conflicts had taken place earlier. The doctor said Tessa was already dizzy and confused before she fell. The violent fall caused insufficient blood supply to her brain, leading to an intracranial hematoma that pressed on her nerves, putting her in a persistent coma.
The doctors had planned an operation, yet the affected nerve area was far too risky to operate on. Any tiny mistake might trigger brain death, robbing her of every chance to wake up again.
They were still trying to work out a safer treatment, but no proper solution had been found yet. Tessa’s father had announced publicly that anyone who could find ways or resources to cure his daughter would receive a lavish reward from the Frost family.
Hearing about Tessa’s critical condition, Zora frowned tightly. If the blood clot kept pressing on the nerves for too long, it would severely damage the brain tissues. Without timely removal, the clot would rupture blood vessels, making it even harder for the patient to regain consciousness.
Zora secretly made up her mind to find a chance to visit Tessa sometime soon.
Even though they were not close friends, she could never bear to see an innocent person suffer undeserved misfortune.
She went home that afternoon.
Zora did not run into Leighton this time. He sent her a message saying he was swamped with work and would not be home for the next couple of days, but he’d have someone deliver dinner to her.
Zora had intended to give him the vitality pills she had made, yet since he was away, she could only put them aside and wait for his return.
Time slipped by quickly, and the weekend arrived.

Zora had not crossed paths with Leighton these past few days due to his busy schedule, so she never got the chance to hand over the vitality pills.
The lights on his floor never lit up, which meant he had not come home at all. Still, he never forgot to have delicious meals delivered to her every single night.
All the delivered dishes were her favorite meat-based foods.
Once the vacation began, Opal called Zora and invited her over for dinner at the Marlow Manor.
Zora had moved out of the manor quite a while ago, and she had promised her grandmother she would come back during the holidays, so she agreed without hesitation.
On Friday, Zora headed back together with Hallie by car.
“Zora! I missed you so much!”
The moment Zora stepped into the courtyard, Opal heard from the butler that her granddaughter had returned. She immediately put down the flower-trimming scissors and hurried over to greet her, warm fondness shining all over her face.
“Grandma,” Zora smiled softly in reply.
“Hurry inside quickly! I’ve had the chef bake all kinds of sweet pastries just for you.”
Opal looked at her granddaughter’s face, relieved to see she hadn’t lost any weight. Her tone was light and cheerful. Compared with her quiet, gloomy mood in the past, Zora had obviously become far more outgoing and lively.
“Zora, I’ve heard everything that happened at school. It’s all my fault for failing to raise your mother properly and letting her make such foolish choices.”
Opal took Zora’s hand and led her to sit in the living room. All sorts of tasty snacks were laid out on the table, none of which contained cream.
She held Zora’s hands tightly and let out a long sigh.
She knew perfectly well Zora was innocent, yet she never expected the entire Knox family to be so thoughtless. They never bothered to look into the truth and casually pinned all the blame on Zora without a second thought.
Opal had known nothing about what happened at school at first. Zora had kept it all hidden, not wanting any of her elders to worry, and she had never breathed a word about it to Jensen and her other cousins either.
Reed was leading his team overseas for a closed-door competition, so he didn’t know anything about it.

She hadn’t expected Holden to be such a blabbermouth.

When she got calls from Jensen and her grandmother a few days ago, she felt rather guilty and secretly blamed Holden countless times for being such a loose tongue.
“Grandma, I have never taken those matters to heart. Please do not trouble yourself over them either.”
Those rumors and misunderstandings never bothered Zora much at all. She no longer cared about any member of the Knox family, nor did she dwell on all the past grievances.
“My poor child, you have suffered so many wrongs.”
Opal stroked Zora’s hair gently, her eyes filled with heartache and pity.
She had also firmly turned down Wendy’s plea to mediate and pass words to the Frost family.
Jolie had to take full responsibility for every mistake she made on her own.
Jolie always had Wendy standing up for her, while Zora had no one to rely on in the Knox household. The entire Marlow family would always stand firmly by Zora’s side.
They owed Zora far too much already.
She had endured years of hardship away from her real family, and even after being reunited, she still got bullied and wronged everywhere. Such a young girl had gone through endless
sorrows.
“Grandma, I haven’t suffered any grievances at all, not when I have all of you protecting me.”
Zora smiled gently, her eyes clear and soft.
She truly did not feel wronged in the slightest. Perhaps it was indifference, or maybe after being abandoned time and again, she was no longer surprised by Jolie’s repeated schemes and framed accusations. She had long grown accustomed to the cold attitude of the Knox family.
Due to severe trauma she endured in her early childhood, Zora was never sensitive to other people’s emotions. For a very long period of time, she had trouble perceiving feelings normally. No matter whether others hated her, disdained her, detested her, or even liked her, those emotions could barely stir any response inside her heart.
