Chapter 152 Innate Emotional Insensitivity
This was a natural self-defense mechanism built deep inside her.

Later on, her mentor tried countless ways to help her regain the ability to sense others’ emotions. Little by little, she got closer to normal levels, yet her emotional perception still remained far weaker than that of most ordinary people.
When she first moved into the Knox Villa, every member of the family kept ignoring her. She felt a faint touch of sadness, but nothing too heavy. Even when they doted heavily on Jolie, who never stopped showing off how beloved she was by the Knoxes, Zora barely felt any disturbance in her heart.
Back then, all she cared about most was the departure of her mentor.
“Zora’s home! Look what I caught today. I’ve told the chef to cook fresh fish for dinner tonight.”
The two were chatting when Floyd walked in, carrying a fishing basket with a bright smile on his face. He had gotten quite a good haul that day.
“Sounds great,” Zora replied in a soft voice.
“I guess Kian won’t make it for dinner again. He’s been swamped with work lately, often too busy to even grab a proper meal.”
Only three of them sat down for dinner that night, leaving the huge manor feeling quiet and
empty.
Opal kept putting different dishes onto Zora’s plate.

Kian had been buried in endless work over at the hospital these days.
Jensen had also flown overseas on a business trip.
He had planned to rush back the moment he heard what Zora had gone through, until Leighton gave him a call and assured him everything had been settled, which finally calmed him down.
“Grandma, let me pack up some of Kian’s favorite food. I can drop it off at the hospital for him,” Zora suggested gently.
She hadn’t gotten to see Kian for quite a while, either.
“It’s too much trouble. Let him just grab something quick there.”
Opal doted on her grandson dearly and did not want her granddaughter running back and

forth to tire herself out.

“It won’t be troublesome at all. We don’t have school tomorrow, and it’s still early. I can send the food over and wait for him to head home together afterward,” Zora insisted softly.
She clearly remembered that Tessa was staying in the very same hospital where Kian worked.
“Alright then. You must be worn out from school all week; heading out for a walk will do you good. I’ll have Paul arrange a car to take you there.”
Opal thought it over and agreed.
She knew Kian would most likely leave takeout food untouched until it turned cold if others delivered it, but he would definitely eat properly if Zora brought it over herself.
After finishing dinner, Zora grabbed the packed meal boxes and headed straight for the hospital by car.
Eastside Memorial Hospital ranked top among all medical facilities across Seacrest, and Kian worked there as a neurology physician.
“Hi there, are you Kian’s cousin?”
As soon as Zora stepped out of the car, a man was already waiting for her outside the hospital
gate.
He was a close friend of Kian’s named Julian Weston.
Opal had called Kian ahead of time the moment Zora left the manor. Since Kian was tied up with ward rounds, he could only ask his trusted friend to come pick her up.
Julian recognized Zora right away, matching her appearance to what Kian had told him. She stood out easily among the crowd, breathtakingly beautiful.
“Yes.”
Zora nodded slightly. Kian had also given her a quick phone call on her way over.
“I’m Julian Weston, one of your brother’s closest pals. Just call me Julian.”
He smiled in a warm, easy-going way.
“Nice to meet you, Julian,” Zora greeted him politely.
“Kian’s on the sixth floor right now. He’s busy checking on patients at the moment. I’ll take you to his office first.”
Julian led her straight into the hospital building. The place was enormous, and newcomers

could easily get lost without guidance.
“Okay.” Zora followed him quietly inside.

As they went upstairs and passed an office, they could hear a voice filled with anxiety and rage.
“My daughter has been stuck in a coma for two whole days! Do any of you actually have a way to wake her up? I never thought the Hale family would turn out this useless ever since Marvin passed away.”
Cedric Frost shook his head helplessly, staring at Evan Hale standing before him. Thinking of his unconscious daughter lying in the ward tore his heart apart.
His late wife had left him nothing but this only daughter. If anything terrible happened to her, he would never have the courage to face his wife in the afterlife.
“Zora, that’s Miss Frost’s father in there. She got pushed down the stairs not long ago and slipped into a deep coma. Her father comes here every single day demanding answers from the hospital directors.”
Julian whispered and explained to curious Zora.
“Kian once considered performing surgery on her, yet the blood clot was located in an extremely dangerous spot deep in the brain. He didn’t have enough confidence to pull it off safely, so the whole matter has been stuck in a deadlock ever since.
“These past few days, Mr. Frost even brought in a member of the Hale family from abroad to help, but he could not find an effective cure either.
“He has never mastered the legendary Eighteen Meridian Technique. I really wish I could witness that miraculous medical skill with my own eyes someday.”
He sighed with obvious regret in his tone.
Ever since Tessa got injured, her father had barely left the hospital premises. All doctors fully understood how desperate he was for his daughter’s recovery. They wished nothing more than to see their patients get well soon, yet they dared not take reckless risks that could cost someone their life.
The blocked blood vessels were situated too dangerously inside the brain, so everyone could only try mild conservative treatment methods.
It would be best if they could clear the clot without surgery.
