Jolie had nearly killed her, and even though she was lucky enough to wake up, she chose to let Jolie off with a slap on the wrist.

Jolie did not even stay a full seven days inside the detention center.

Hearing their indignant remarks, Zora said nothing and sank into a quiet daze.

“What’s on your mind?”

Seeing her sitting there lost in thought, Maya asked her gently.

“Thanksgiving is coming next month.”

Bright light sparkled in Zora’s eyes at the thought.

The holiday was drawing near, which meant another vacation was on the way.

Maya smiled lightly.

“You’re right! We get a three-day break for Thanksgiving. We can head out and have some fun.”

Hallie slapped her forehead, unable to hide her excitement.

In the afternoon, Zora headed back home. She barely had any schoolwork for the day, only two simple exam papers.

She had no intention of finishing them right away. She had stayed over at the Marlow Manor these past two days and had no time to tend to the medicinal herbs in the garden.

Carrying a small hoe, she went straight to the garden and loosened the soil carefully for those thriving little herbs.

Zora had never had many hobbies, and she never thought herself quick-witted. Her mentor had taught her countless skills over the years, yet she mastered very few of them. The only exception was medicine, which she studied with all her heart.

Just gazing at those lush, vibrant herbs never failed to lift her spirits.

Pulling out wild weeds, softening hardened soil, and watering the plants were among the few things that truly brought her joy.

She only had this tiny patch of land here to tend to, which was far from enough. If she were still in Maplewood, surrounded by vast stretches of herbal fields, she would feel infinitely happier.

Right after she finished gardening, the doorbell rang.

Zora assumed it was Leighton sending someone over with meals again.

She had told him plainly during her stay at the Marlow Manor not to arrange food deliveries, yet he still did so the moment she got home.

She set down her gardening tools, left her muddy slippers outside the garden, and walked barefoot toward the front door.

The second she opened the door, a tall figure cast a shadow over her. Fresh, crisp mint scent drifted gently to her nose.

Zora looked up and saw his cold-looking face, with obvious dark circles underneath his eyes.

She knew at once he had gone without proper rest for far too long.

“Leighton.”

“Why aren’t you wearing shoes?”

They spoke at the exact same time.

Leighton’s gaze fell on her delicate, pale, bare feet resting on the floor, her round toes and pink, neat toenails looking utterly adorable.

“You’re back?”

“Put your shoes on first.”

Their voices overlapped once more.

Eventually, Leighton bent down, fetched a pair of house shoes from the shoe cabinet, and placed them beside her feet. “Put them on, the floor is cold.”

Zora obeyed and slipped them on.

“When did you get back?”

“Just got in. Have you eaten yet? Come have dinner at my place.”

His voice sounded lazy and slightly hoarse.

“Not yet. Sure.”

She had been expecting his delivered meals, but the invitation delighted her greatly. She was truly craving the home-cooked dishes he made, which tasted far better than those fancy private chef meals he usually sent over.

“Let’s go then.” Leighton nodded softly.

He stared at her face, feeling as if they hadn’t met in ages, noticing she still looked slender with hardly any flesh on her cheeks.

“Wait a second.”

Zora suddenly remembered the vitality pills she had prepared for him, then hurried toward the herbal storage room.

Jensen had specially set up this private herbal chamber for her ever since she bought piles of medicinal ingredients for fun. One entire wall was filled with all sorts of common medicinal herbs, all carefully picked out and prepared with advice from Chet.

She stuffed the pills into a glass jar, then gathered all pre-portioned herbal packs for nourishing soup into her arms.

She never expected Leighton to come back so suddenly, leaving her with no time to find a bag. Worried about keeping him waiting, she simply held everything tight in her arms and walked

out.

Leighton waited quietly outside and soon saw her walking over with her arms full of things.

“What are you carrying all these for?”

He stepped forward at once and took most of the items from her hands.

“They’re all for you. These paper-wrapped packs are herbal blends for nourishing soup. You can keep some at home and also store some in your office. That way, you won’t ever leave them behind and fail to find them when you need them.

“Drink one serving every single day. It can ease your frequent headaches and help you restore your physical health. Your organs are in a bit of a dangerous state. You need to stop staying up so late so your body can recover faster,” Zora explained earnestly.

She prepared double portions of everything for him ever since he once complained about leaving his sachet at home, determined to avoid such troubles again.

The two walked side by side and took the elevator up to the 19th floor.

“You care about me this much to prepare so many things?”

Leighton had never guessed all these were specially made for him. Warm soft smiles bloomed in his amber eyes, and most of his built-up fatigue faded away instantly.
