Chapter 163 Like a Bad Penny

Not to mention she’d even poked him with her own hands.

If it had been anyone else, Leighton would have blown up on the spot, yet when it came to her, he could never bring himself to do so.

As he shut his eyes, horrific bloody visions no longer haunted his mind. All that lingered were her gorgeous gem-like eyes, mixed with her quiet whispers complimenting his good looks.

She really does like my face.

Did I not feed her enough? Is she actually drooling over me?

Recalling the warm, gentle breath brushing against his cheeks, Leighton let out a helpless chuckle.

“Have you heard the news? Tessa is transferring into our class soon.”

The moment Zora arrived at school, she heard this rather unpleasant piece of news.

“Why on earth would she want to switch to our class?”

Zora bit down on her straw, frowning as she glanced toward Easton sitting in the front row.

“No idea. I heard it from my dad.”

Easton shook his head. He’d learned the news from his father this morning, who was one of the school’s board directors.

“We’re already deep into the semester. Even if she’s fallen out with Jolie, if she can’t stand seeing her around school, she could just make Jolie switch classes instead. There’s no reason for her to come here.”

Easton could not wrap his head around this decision.

“When exactly is she coming over?”

Maya handed Zora a freshly unpacked strawberry tart.

“No confirmed date yet, but it’ll be no later than next week. Word has it she insisted on transferring here of her own free will,” Easton said.

After all, she was a senior year student, and she couldn’t stay in the hospital forever.

Zora stayed silent, taking a spoonful of the sweet pastry. She could not figure out Tessa’s real

intention behind this move.

“Don’t look so worried; we’re all right here with you.”

Noticing her distracted mood, Maya patted her hand gently to comfort her.

“Yeah, Zora, don’t be scared. We’ve got your back. Tessa’s perfectly normal when she’s not siding with Jolie. Those two have completely fallen out now, so she’ll surely go back to her usual self. Even if she doesn’t, we can just keep our distance from her.”

Hallie hadn’t gone back to her seat yet, occupying a spot behind Zora. She patted Zora’s head to comfort her.

Everyone knew about the bad blood between Zora and Jolie. Tessa had always stood firmly on Jolie’s side before, so no one could fathom why she was determined to join their class now.

The school bell rang soon after, pulling everyone back to their respective seats.

Clark stepped into the classroom.

“Everyone, I have an announcement to make. I’m sure most of you have already heard it. Tessa will be joining our class starting next week. I know there have been some conflicts between you all, but I hope everyone can get along peacefully. Even if you can’t become close friends, do not isolate or bully her, understood?”

School ended in the afternoon.

Zora packed up her belongings and left the campus.

“Zora.”

She had just walked into the residential community and was about to scan her face to get inside when a car parked by the roadside swung open its door.

Zora turned around, utterly stunned by the group of people standing there.

It was Wendy, whom she hadn’t seen in ages.

In just a few short days, she looked as if she had aged years overnight.

Right after her stepped down Yale, Anton, and Holden one after another.

Outsiders were not allowed to enter Aria Estates without a resident’s permission, so the whole family had been waiting for her inside the car.

At the sight of them, Zora pressed her lips tightly together and stared at them with a frown.

For Ted

They were like a bad penny.

“Zora.”

Light joy flickered across Holden’s eyes the second he spotted her.

Ever since he was reprimanded harshly by Leighton last time, Holden had reflected deeply on all his mistakes. This time, he showed up carrying piles of gifts and daily necessities.

The other three also snapped out of their daze, gazing at Zora with complicated emotions.

Everything that had happened at school struck them like a heavy hammer, finally waking them up to how deeply they had wronged her.

The person they’d never suspected of any wrongdoing was actually the one who’d lied to them the most. Meanwhile, the girl they’d always doubted was the one who’d suffered the deepest hurt at their hands.

It was no wonder she refused to have anything to do with them anymore.

So many incidents had unfolded, yet they had always jumped to conclusions and blamed everything on her without ever taking the time to look into the truth.

If they had investigated things thoroughly back then, none of these tragedies would have happened, and their family would never have ended up in such a broken state.

“Zora.”

Yale supported Wendy as they slowly walked straight toward Zora, his heart filled with indescribable sorrow.

He could still clearly recall their accidental encounter not long ago.

Everything she’d said about never getting any pocket money from the family was the absolute truth.

Wendy had originally planned to give her allowance regularly, but then the incident with the necklace happened. In her anger, Wendy had decided to wait a few days and leave the task to Jolie.

No one expected Jolie to pocket all the cash and never hand a single cent over to Zora at all.

“Can you people just leave me alone?”

Zora stood her ground this time, watching the Knox family approach her step by step. She kept in mind what Leighton had told her before-better let others feel wronged than wrong yourself.

She no longer bothered to soften her words or pick gentle phrases to spare their feelings. Every sentence she spoke was sharp and piercing, stabbing straight into their hearts like tiny needles.
