“Zora, I truly regret bringing you back home in the first place. Look what you’ve done to tear this family apart.”

Wendy stormed straight toward Zora in a rage and raised her hand, ready to slap her across the
face.
“Mom!”
The three Knox brothers shouted in shock all at once.
Yet Zora swiftly caught Wendy’s wrist and pushed her away hard.
She had let her guard down last time and nearly gotten hit, but now that she saw Wendy’s furious expression, she would never let that happen again.
No one had ever laid a hand on her growing up, not even her mentor. There was no way she would let this woman hurt her.
“Mom!”
“Zora!”
Wendy stumbled backward two steps and almost fell flat on the ground, only steadying herself thanks to Holden catching her.
Her eyes turned red with raw resentment as she glared fiercely at Zora, utterly stunned that she dared fight back.
“Zora.” Yale frowned sharply, clearly displeased.
Even if their mother was in the wrong, pushing her so roughly was too much. She was getting on in years, and if Holden hadn’t caught her, she could have gotten seriously hurt.
“Am I supposed to just stand there and take the hit?” Zora shot Yale a cold, calm glance. “It’s easy for you to talk when you’re not the one getting attacked.”
Yale fell speechless, caught off guard by how blunt and unyielding Zora was toward her own brother.
Zora stepped further back, putting more distance between herself and the whole family.
“Zora, do you even still consider me your mother anymore?” Wendy planted her feet firmly, eyes glistening with anger and hurt as she spoke sharply.
“No, I don’t.”

Zora answered without the slightest hesitation.

Wendy was left breathless with fury, her face flushing bright red. She pointed trembling fingers at Zora, too enraged to utter a single word.
She was absolutely livid.
Her feelings toward Zora were endlessly tangled. She felt guilty yet also full of bitterness. She could not understand why Zora never explained herself and let the whole family misunderstand her all this time, leading things to spiral so far out of control.
The chaos surrounding Jolie had worn every single member of the Knox family thin, and no one had suffered more than Wendy herself.
She never imagined the daughter she had doted on and believed to be kind-hearted could harbor such vicious thoughts.
But she had already made her choice…
What annoyed her most was Zora’s lack of understanding toward her. While she did feel a twinge of guilt deep down, she was far more upset that Zora had stirred up trouble at school and ruined the Knox family’s reputation.
Zora had also drawn the hostility of the Frost family. Though they had dropped their accusations for now, the two families had become bitter rivals.
Jolie was now too ashamed to leave the house and refused to go back to school entirely.
Her husband constantly berated her for being useless, and even her three sons had started taking Zora’s side, no longer being as considerate toward her as they once were.
Their entire household had fallen into complete disarray.
Wendy could not help but drown in regret, questioning why she had ever decided to bring Zora back into their lives.
Everything would have stayed peaceful if she had never done that.
“Zora.”
Zora kept retreating, and the wary, guarded look in her eyes stabbed straight into the hearts of the three brothers.
Holden let go of Wendy and hurried forward to catch up with Zora.
“Security! Stop them right there!”
Zora backed toward the residential complex while calling out to the guards on duty.

The security staff who had been keeping an eye on the scene immediately stepped forward and blocked the family from getting any closer, halting Holden in his tracks.
“Mom, we came here today to apologize to Zora,” Holden frowned and spoke firmly to his mother. “I know you’re upset over everything that happened with Jolie, but none of this is Zora’s fault. She’s the real victim here.”
Jolie had only spent five days in the detention center, yet she had wasted away drastically once she got home yesterday.
They all understood how stressed and heartbroken their mother was over Jolie’s situation, but that was no excuse for her to take all her anger out on Zora.
Holden had lost all his former affection for Jolie after seeing everything she had done. No matter how she sobbed and begged for forgiveness or claimed she never meant any harm, things could never go back to the way they used to be. A deep rift had formed between them forever.
All the love he had once held for Jolie now felt like a boomerang, cutting right through him.
It mocked their sibling bond. To frame Zora, Jolie had been willing to use a human life. He probably meant nothing to her either.
All Holden wanted to do now was make amends and treat Zora properly.
“Mom, Zora had nothing to do with all these troubles. Every mistake belongs to Jolie alone. We spoiled her far too much,” Yale said with a serious expression.
Their mother had always indulged Jolie endlessly. He had warned Jolie not to cause trouble, but she had caused a disaster the very next day, completely turning a deaf ear to his words.
