Chapter 178 Stay Here and Keep Me Company
Zora smiled gently in response to Opal’s reluctant gaze.

“Call me anytime you need anything, alright? I’ll come pick you up right away.” Hallie kept adding reminders before leaving.
She had wished to take Zora home with her, yet since Zora chose to stay with Leighton, she could only bid her farewell unwillingly.
“I will.” Zora nodded obediently.
With Zora handed over to Leighton, things finally settled down for now.
Once only the two of them remained in the living room, Zora watched Leighton tidying up things on the table and spoke up softly.
“Why did you ask me to stay? I heard you never like having other people around to disturb you.”
Leighton paused briefly, then broke into a soft smile.
“You’re never a disturbance to me. You help me get healthy, and I provide you with food and shelter. If you leave, no one will eat the meals I make anymore. Dining alone just never feels right.”
It was true that he had always preferred staying away from outsiders. Yet having Zora around felt entirely different.
He could not fully explain what had driven him to make this decision. It might have been a sudden impulse, but he felt no regret at all.
Deep down, he simply hated the endless silence filling his huge house.
More than that, he could not bear the thought of coming home each day only to find no trace of her small figure anymore.
“I’ll help you recover your health as soon as I can.”
This fair trade eased Zora’s mind a little.
Once his condition got better, if her mentor still hadn’t come for her, she’d move out.
She wouldn’t bother him for long.
“No rush at all. Come with me, I’ll show you your room. Tell me anything you need.

“This will be your room for now. It’s just temporary. I’ll have workers come over tomorrow to redecorate it nicely, and I’ll also send all your clothes over here soon.”
Since Zora had already packed all her belongings, there was no need to head downstairs again. Leighton carried her suitcase straight toward the guest room.
Though it was only a guest room with simple decor, Leighton held extremely high standards for daily life, so every item inside was top-quality.
The only downside was the plain, dull color scheme, which was far too cold and plain for a young girl’s bedroom and definitely needed a makeover.
No one had ever expected the messy trouble caused by the Knox family, nor had Leighton planned to take Zora in. Now that she was staying here, he was determined to take good care of her wholeheartedly.
“There’s no need to redecorate. It’s perfect just like this. I’ll look for another place to move into soon and won’t bother you for long.” Zora shook her head firmly.
She never intended to settle down here permanently. She had only agreed out of sudden urgency, hoping to stop everyone around her from worrying too much about her affairs. She planned to start searching for a rental house the very next day.
She had enough savings to afford a place on her own. Still unfamiliar with the districts across Seacrest, she wondered if Maya knew any suitable neighborhoods.
“Zora, please don’t feel pressured to stay here.” Leighton lowered his long lashes, his tone soft and filled with quiet loneliness. “This big house has always been empty, with only me living alone. I have no one to talk to all day long. It would feel so much warmer with you around. Stay here and keep me company, okay? I truly hate being all alone.”
His sincere words touched Zora deeply.
Dressed in a slate-blue shirt, he looked exceptionally handsome and refined. Those warm amber eyes were now clouded with faint sorrow, calm yet utterly lonely, easily stirring people’s softest emotions.
Seeing him looking so desolate and abandoned by the whole world made Zora feel uneasy. Before she could think it through properly, she blurted out her agreement without hesitation.
“Sure.”
The moment the words left her mouth, slight regret crept over her mind. But facing his sad eyes, she simply could not bring herself to take it back.
She knew exactly how painful and lonely it felt to live all by herself.

Moreover, Leighton had done countless kind things for her. He stood up for her at school, protected her from Holden’s trouble, cooked delicious meals for her, brought her little gifts. every single day, and even helped her settle all guardianship-related matters today.
Zora was never an ungrateful person, and she could clearly feel all his genuine kindness.
She truly had no way to turn down his gentle request.
She decided she could stay and keep him company until the day she had to leave this place.
“Rest and unpack your things first. I’ll go make dinner for us.”
Instantly cheered up, Leighton’s eyes lit up with bright joy, looking just like an excited puppy who got its favorite treat.
With a happy smile spreading across his face, he turned and headed straight for the kitchen to prepare meals.
