Chapter 179 A Soft Moment Late at Night

Zora watched him walk away, staring blankly at the lingering smile on his lips.

Something felt off.

Was he really this easy to cheer up?

After Leighton left, Zora looked around the guest room. Its decoration was almost identical to the rooms downstairs.

One was styled warm and inviting, while the other seemed cold and plain.

The quilt and pillows on the bed were all brand new. Even if no one stayed here often, the maids cleaned it regularly, making it fully ready for occupancy at any time.

Zora took out a box given by her mentor not long ago from her suitcase, gazing at the note lying quietly inside.

She stroked it gently, whispering silently in her heart.

Mentor… when will you come back?

Zora finished packing her things and walked out of the room, catching a pleasant scent drifting through the air.

Right after she stepped out, Leighton came out of the kitchen holding two plates.

“We’ll keep dinner simple tonight. I made two plates of pasta. I’ll cook you something delicious

tomorrow.”

It was already past nine o’clock at night, too late to prepare complicated meals. He could only make simple pasta to fill their stomachs for the time being.

“Remember to simmer and drink your nourishing soup.”

Zora sat down at the dining table with Leighton sitting across from her. She took a bite of the pasta, then looked up and reminded him earnestly.

She had promised Chet and the others that she would fully nurse Leighton back to health, so she would spare no effort on this matter.

“…Alright.”

Meeting her sincere and persistent gaze, Leighton had just picked up some pasta to eat. Thinking he still had to drink medicine later, his lips tightened slightly.

Chet and the rest were truly worried about his health. Leighton had never liked taking

medicine since he was little. He always endured colds and illnesses on his own.

Finished

Yet the thought of Zora staring at him doubtfully like “You’re all grown up, how can you still be scared of medicine?” gave him a faint headache.

He decided it was better to go along with it quietly. He already had enough labels attached to him, and he did not want Zora adding more strange impressions of him in her mind.

He kept comforting himself inwardly, telling himself he was drinking soothing soup instead of bitter medicine.

After he agreed, Zora lowered her head and continued eating her pasta.

She could not help wondering why everyone was so shocked when they heard he was willing to take medicine.

His cooking was truly superb. Even simple, plain pasta tasted absolutely wonderful.

Golden runny-yolk fried eggs went well with fresh greens and shiitake mushrooms. A touch of butter and a pinch of salt turned this plain pasta into something incredibly savory.

Before long, while Zora was busy with her schoolwork, someone knocked on her bedroom door, followed by Leighton’s voice.

“Zora, these are some clothes I had delivered. Just make do for now. Tomorrow I’ll have new ones sent over,” Leighton said.

Her door was not fully closed, so she could hear him clearly. He stood outside politely without peeking into her room casually.

“Thank you.”

Zora opened the door and took the several clothing bags he handed over without refusal.

She was treating his illness and using precious medicinal herbs, so these new clothes were more than enough to make up for the cost.

If it was not enough, she could find other ways to repay him later.

“No need to be so formal with me,” Leighton smiled softly.

He would have been utterly furious if he knew Zora was secretly calculating ways to draw a clear line between them.

These clothes were newly arranged by him.

Even though Jensen had already prepared plenty of outfits for Zora downstairs, some words. from Wendy had left Leighton feeling uneasy, so he immediately arranged for more brand- new clothes to be sent over.

Complete sets, including matching accessories, shoes, and bags, would be delivered fully tomorrow. Only daily casual outfits were sent over for her to change into tonight.

“Finish your medicine first, then sort out your unfinished business. I will give you a massage later. Medicine alone cannot fully fix your physical condition. Your core problem lies in poor sleep. You will never recover fully unless you fix your sleeping troubles.”

Zora caught the faint scent of medicinal herbs in the air, knowing Leighton had honestly brewed the medicine as told. She cared deeply about his recovery.

As a healer, she never disliked putting in extra effort for cooperative patients.

On the contrary, the most troublesome thing was stubborn patients who refused to follow medical advice, which would make all treatment efforts go to waste.

She could easily tell that this patient in front of her hated taking medicine deeply.

When Zora woke up the next morning, she stared at the unfamiliar ceiling in a daze and slowly recalled that she had moved to another new place again.

She had stayed in Seacrest for merely three months, yet she had already moved four times.

She wondered if she would have to move again soon.

Her long eyelashes drooped down as she let out a quiet sigh.

She got up, freshened up, and changed into a pale pink dress made of top-grade smooth fabric.

Then she tied her hair into a low ponytail.
