After everything the Knox family had done, he could no longer rest easy letting Zora live alone. He was filled with deep regret for arranging for her to stay elsewhere in the first place.

Back then, he had wanted Zora to move in with him, yet his endless busy work often kept him up late into the night. He feared he would not have enough time to look after her properly. That was why he settled her here instead.

This place was close to Havenridge High School, and Leighton lived nearby who could keep an eye on her when needed. He had guarded against countless troubles, but never expected the Knox family to act so shamelessly.

Zora picked up a pancake and took a small bite, remaining silent for a moment.

Jensen saw her reaction and felt a pang of guilt. Those harsh words from the Knox family had truly hurt her deeply.

“What’s the matter? Worried I’m going to eat Zora if she stays with me?”

Before Zora could answer, Leighton walked over holding two glasses of warm milk. He raised his brows and spoke playfully, clearly teasing Jensen for trying to take Zora away.

He had just spent the whole night calming Zora down, and now Jensen wanted to take her away right after getting back. It felt utterly unfair to him.

“That’s not what I mean. You have your business to handle while Zora needs to focus on schoolwork. I don’t want to trouble you for too long. I just plan to take her back to my place.”

It wasn’t that Jensen didn’t trust Leighton.

Zora was in her senior year of high school, buried under heavy study pressure. Meanwhile, Leighton had just returned from overseas and was swamped with affairs at the company. It would be tough for him to take good care of her. Besides, Leighton had never been one to invite extra trouble into his life.

Even if Leighton treated Zora kindly out of friendship, such an arrangement would surely lead to problems sooner or later.

“It’s never any trouble at all. Our sweet Zora is such a lovely girl to have around. What’s more, she’s still helping me recover my health. If anything, I’m the one getting the better end of this deal, having such a skilled young healer looking after me anytime I need.”

Leighton turned his gaze toward Zora with a warm smile in his voice. His tone carried obvious fondness, especially when he called her his little healer.

Zora lifted her head and met his gentle gaze. His eyes were bright and warm, and she could easily tell he was stepping in to smooth things over for her.

Leighton pushed a glass of milk toward him before sitting down beside them.

Jensen bore heavy responsibilities for the entire Marlow family and was already worn thin from endless pressure.

The unfair treatment Zora suffered at the hands of the Knox family had crossed his bottom line completely. Even though he kept a calm surface, his desperate rush to return home the moment he heard the news fully showed how deeply he cared about Zora.

The deeper his affection for her grew, the fiercer his anger toward the whole Knox family became.

Troubles were bound to keep piling up for the Knox family soon enough. Jensen would have to juggle handling Knox family issues, managing Marlow Group business, and looking after Zora all at once, pushing himself far too hard.

As his closest friend, Leighton was more than willing to share some of that burden.

After breakfast, the two men drove Zora to school. They waited until she safely walked into the campus before heading back to their cars.

“I will cover all of Zora’s daily expenses from now on,” Jensen said firmly.

He was truly overwhelmed with work and had to rush straight to his company right after dropping Zora off. He could not let the Knox family get away with hurting her so easily.

They had relied heavily on support from the Marlow family, yet dared to treat the Jensen cherished most so poorly, and they would definitely pay the price for it.
