Chapter 187 Awkward Banter Between Father and Son

Looking closely, crumbs of potato chips still clung to Walter’s formal uniform.

As for Garrett, there was even hot sauce smudged at the corner of his mouth.

Leighton glanced lazily at them, then walked over and sat down beside Zora. Seeing the table covered with empty chip bags, he bent down to tidy everything up.

“Wipe that sauce off your mouth. If you like them that much, I’ll have a bunch sent to your house next time. Don’t go stealing a little girl’s snacks.”

After cleaning up, he handed Garrett a tissue.

“I never even liked this stuff.” Garrett stiffened awkwardly and quickly took the tissue to wipe his mouth in a hurry.

“Left side,” Leighton said coldly.

Garrett silently shifted and wiped the other side.

“Is it gone now?”

He glanced nervously at Walter, then Zora, daring not to meet Leighton’s eyes directly.

“It’s all clean.” Zora nodded.

Walter nodded too.

“Fine then, I won’t arrange any deliveries if you don’t like them.” Leighton finished sorting out the mess and settled down next to Zora.

“Send them anyway! What if Zora comes over and there’s nothing good to snack on?”

Garrett was left lost for words, shooting an annoyed glare at his sharp-tongued son.

“You can just buy new ones anytime. By the time she visits, all the snacks here will probably be stale.”

Leighton tore open a new bag of potato chips for Zora. His long lashes cast soft shadows over

eyes, his well-defined fingers holding the snack bag gently.

“Store-bought ones never taste as good as the ones you arrange. Besides, you can just restock more if they go bad.”

Garrett raised his brows, sounding clearly displeased.

“I don’t have money,” Leighton replied calmly.

Zora sat quietly watching them bicker, sensing faint tension hanging in the air.

Garrett was clearly furious, yet Leighton stayed totally relaxed, even feeding her chips casually.

“I haven’t treated you poorly at all! If you’re short on cash, just come ask me for it! Walter, transfer him some money right now. People would think I’m starving my own son.”

Garrett’s sharp eyes flashed with sternness as he ordered Walter beside him.

Walter instantly pulled out his phone, secretly relieved that Leighton finally needed financial support. He even planned to inform the rest of the family about this matter.

“Don’t listen to him, Walter,” Leighton spoke softly to stop him.

“You didn’t have money, yet you refused to follow the path I set for you. You had to go and start some damn company. Did you lose everything? Now you know what it’s like to be broke?”

His continuous rejection only fueled Garrett’s anger. He found every little thing about Leighton irritating and could barely hold back his temper, speaking in a stricter tone.

How did he not inherit a single bit of his mother’s gentle nature? He was as stubborn as a mule.

“Watch your language, old man. Don’t set a bad example for Zora. Jensen will definitely come talk to you if you corrupt her.”

Leighton tilted his head and shot him a lazy glance with a faint smile on his lips.

“I’m so sorry, Zora. don’t pick up my bad habits,” Garrett coughed and adjusted his tone the second he noticed Zora munching on snacks nearby.

“It’s alright, sir.” Zora had already grown comfortable talking with him and no longer felt nervous around him.

To her, Garrett seemed really warm and amiable.

If Leighton heard this thought, he would surely be left speechless. Everyone else who knew Garrett’s formidable reputation would be equally stunned.

The tough retired general feared by countless people was actually seen as easy-going by Zora?!

“Wait a minute. Sir?” Leighton frowned the moment he heard the address. He lifted his eyes and glanced at Garrett.

“What? Is there a problem?”

Garrett instinctively raised his hand to swat him, yet held back his anger the second he thought Zora was there.

“Why on earth does Zora call you sir? It sounds far too distant.”

Leighton was long used to the old man’s habit of reaching out to hit him at every turn, not even batting an eyelid. He knew Garrett had come here simmering with pent-up frustration, only restraining himself out of consideration for Zora’s presence.

Garrett exchanged a glance with Walter. Neither of them had thought about this.

Zora fell speechless. Half a chip remained caught between her teeth, the other end dangling and about to drop. Leighton caught it with his hand and tossed it into the trash can.

He then gently brushed off the crumbs on her dress for her.

Garrett and Walter stared in silence, watching this usually germaphobe man tend to her like a caring parent.

“Zora, that form of address is indeed too cold. We’re all family; just call me Garrett.”

Garrett unbuttoned his collar slightly, feeling irritable and easily riled up whenever he talked to Leighton.
