Garrett had no intention of staying any longer. He stood up and headed for the door.

Glancing back at Leighton, who had just walked out of the kitchen, he spoke in an awkward

tone.

Zora had piles of schoolwork to finish that day. After finishing dinner and chatting briefly with Garrett, she headed straight to her bedroom to study.

Garrett knew how heavy teenagers’ study loads were these days, so they did not bother her at all.

“Alright, I’ll have my assistant send over the snack brand list to Walter,” Leighton replied calmly.

“Oh, Mr. Leighton Pierce, my eyesight has gotten worse over the years. I can barely look at my phone these days. Why don’t you just buy them directly and bring them over?” Walter cut in right away.

“Walter, you still haven’t closed your romance novel app,” Leighton said plainly.

“Cough… I mean I can’t stare at screens. I only listen to audiobooks now.”

Walter quickly covered his pockets, trying to muffle the ongoing audio. Realizing it was useless, he awkwardly pulled out his phone and shut it down. He met Leighton’s calm gaze and let out an embarrassed chuckle.

“We’re heading out now. Send those snacks over soon, will you? I’ve lived such a long life, yet I’ve never gotten to try so many fancy treats.”

With that said, Walter helped Garrett walk out the door and closed it firmly, leaving Leighton no chance to turn them down.

After they left, Leighton stared at the empty living room for a moment, then texted his assistant to arrange for snacks to be delivered to the old residence.

He turned around just in time to see Zora stepping out of her room.

“Zora,” Leighton called out softly.

“Hey. I almost forgot to make your nourishing herbal soup. Has Mr. Pierce left already?”

Zora suddenly remembered she had not prepared the soup for him yet. He had a sharp memory for almost everything else, yet he always forgot about this routine, so she had to remind him every single time.

She scanned the living room and confirmed the elders were already gone.

“Yeah… Do I really have to drink it every single day?” Leighton hesitated to speak.

He had been drinking it for days straight.

He was not sure if the soup actually helped improve his sleep quality. Truth be told, it was Zora’s gentle head massages that let him fall asleep soundly every night. Besides, he had been feeling constantly overheated lately.

On top of that, Zora banned him from drinking iced coffee, leaving him only water to sip.

“That won’t do. I promised to get your health back on track. Don’t you like this flavor? Or does it make you feel uncomfortable? I can make a totally different blend right away.”

Zora refused to compromise. A few days of herbal tonics could never fix his poor physical condition; steady long-term conditioning was the only way to see real results, and his body badly needed proper care.

“No, this one is fine.”

Shot down so firmly, Leighton hung his head low, looking just like a dejected puppy that begged its owner for treats only to get turned down.

Zora hurried into the kitchen to start simmering the nourishing soup, too shy to meet his visibly upset eyes. His handsome features were far too easy to soften anyone’s heart, and she knew she would instantly give in to all his whims if she kept looking at him.

Zora knew full well how fragile Leighton’s health truly was. Without proper long-term care, his lifespan might not even stretch past his forties or fifties.

She could stay by his side to supervise him and prepare these tonics for now, but once she was no longer around, he had to learn to keep up this healthy routine on his own.

Back when she lived downstairs, she used to send him reminders every single day.

“You can go take a shower and finish up your work first. I only have a little homework left. I can give you a massage once I’m done.”

Zora set the herbs into the pot and adjusted the timer before walking back out to talk to him.

“I’ve been sleeping much better these past two days, Zora. You’re swamped with schoolwork lately, you don’t need to tire yourself out massaging me every night. Those herbal sachets you made work wonders all on their own; they’re more than enough to help me rest easy. Finish your work early and get some proper rest yourself.”

Leighton stepped forward and gently stroked her hair with a soft smile tugging at his lips.

It was already past eight in the evening.

She still had homework, nightly routines, and things to sort out. Their daily schedules never matched well. If she waited until he fell asleep to go to bed, it would be too late.

More importantly, he could not keep relying on her to fix his sleeping troubles. Her school pressure would only grow heavier as time went by, and he never wanted her to juggle heavy studies while constantly looking after him.

Leighton only let her stay beside him so she could feel safe and settled. He never wished to drain all her energy.

Deep down, he cared very little about his own physical well-being. He had barely survived countless hardships already, and he always believed fate could take his life away anytime it pleased.

“Are you really sure you can fall asleep without help?” Zora eyed him doubtfully. If he could really fall asleep on his own, he wouldn’t have needed hypnosis in the first place.

She knew she could not stay by his side to help him sleep forever, but as long as she was able, she hated seeing him toss and turn restlessly every single night.

Chronic insomnia was pure torture for both mind and body.

Zora never knew exactly what harsh experiences had left him stuck with such terrible sleep issues.
