Chapter 21 I Already Have a Mentor

“Leighton left again?”

Floyd knew his friend’s grandson well.

Finished

“Gone. That boy acts like he’s swamped, but he’s got nothing important. Sat for five minutes and bolted. No idea what he’s so busy about,” Chet sighed, annoyed at his grandson.

“Kids these days have their own lives. Leighton’s fine the way he is-laid-back. You don’t want what happened years ago to repeat, do you?”

Floyd tried to comfort his friend.

“… You’re right. He’s okay like this.”

Chet fell quiet, thinking of the past.

“So what did you want me to learn? Show me.”

Chet sat and sipped his coffee.

“My granddaughter knows massage. It works really well. I want you to pick it up so you can do it for me

later.”

Floyd changed the subject, noticing Chet didn’t want to talk about old wounds.

“Zora, you know how to give a massage? Show me.”

He looked up at Zora.

Zora didn’t hesitate. She resumed massaging Floyd with smooth, confident moves. Chet watched closely, saw real skill, and stood right behind her to study.

“Zora, Chet’s an excellent doctor. You could learn a lot from him,” Floyd said with a smile.

“Oh, I see how it is! You only invite me over to dump a student on me! Every time I come here, you trick me. I haven’t taken a student in years, you know. But since you asked… Zora, you’ve got talent. Want to study medicine with me?” Chet laughed.

He liked Zora immediately. His friend had found a treasure.

“Mr. Morgan, I already have a mentor.” Zora shook her head politely.

Floyd was surprised-this wasn’t in the basic background check.

“Zora, having one mentor doesn’t stop you from learning from another! Chet’s one of the best. You’d grow

so much.”

Floyd spoke, surprised that Zora had refused.

His old friend was an outstanding doctor, and countless people had begged to become his apprentice.

Chapter 211 Already Have a Mentor

He’d stopped taking on new students years ago. But when he saw Zora buy a large bag of herbs and give massages so skillfully, he’d hoped she might be interested in studying medicine-and that she could learn from his friend.

Never one to pull strings for anyone, Floyd was willing to make an exception for his long-lost granddaughter.

He just wanted her path in life to be easier, smoother.

“Grandpa, a person only has one true mentor.”

Zora was firm. In her heart, she could only have one mentor.

“Thank you for the offer, Mr. Morgan.”

“No worries at all! I like you, Zora. If you ever want to learn more, come find me-I’ll teach you for free.”

Chet wasn’t offended. He admired her loyalty. Most people would’ve jumped at the chance.

“Our Zora’s simple, but lucky,” Floyd smiled helplessly at his granddaughter, who had clearly won his friend’s affection.

When his friend took a liking to someone, he meant it sincerely.

Right now, his eyes were filled with fondness and admiration for the girl.

“Thank you, Mr. Morgan.”

Zora accepted gracefully. She knew plenty from her mentor, but learning more never hurt.

“Zora, did your mentor teach you this massage technique?” Chet asked, staring at her technique.

It felt strangely familiar-almost like the Hale family’s style.

But the Hale family’s methods had always been passed down only within the clan, never to outsiders. And they were all gone.

He shook off the thought; this was probably just a style developed by imitating the Hale family.

“Yes.” Zora nodded.

“Floyd, you’re blessed with this granddaughter,” Chet said with a warm laugh.

“What’re you two laughing about? I heard you from the driveway!” Opal walked in from shopping.

“Grandma,” Zora called out.

“Hi, sweetie.

“Chet! You’re here too. Stay for dinner.”

Opal noticed Chet as soon as she stepped inside.
