Chapter 234 A Stern Warning

Glancing sideways at the man beside him from the corner of his eye, he sensed the frigid aura enveloping the man. The sharply chiseled features were entirely devoid of any emotion, his brows heavy and cold, and his deep eyes sharp and frosty.

“Chief Carter, I want to speak to Evan alone.”

Leighton spoke in a cold, detached tone, unamused by the rambling man before him.

“Right away, I’ll have them bring him out at once,” Theo replied hastily.

In Seacrest, the Pierce family wielded immense influence over half the city. It was effortless for Leighton to deal with anyone he pleased. To be addressed so politely by him was nothing short of a great honor.

Theo quickly gestured to the two officers inside the room.

Taking the signal, the officers promptly dragged the ranting Evan outside.

“Where are you taking Evan?”

“Let him go!”

His lackeys grew frantic.

Evan was their biggest backer, who had sworn to take responsibility for everything. He couldn’t just ditch them and leave.

“Let me go! Where on earth are you dragging me to!”

Panic and unease surged through Evan at the thought of being taken to an unfamiliar place, and he struggled fiercely, yet all his efforts were in vain.

“This way, Mr. Pierce.” Theo led Leighton toward an empty interrogation room.

Evan was escorted inside and left there by the officers, none daring to glance twice at the cold- faced man standing within the room.

The door clicked shut softly. All Evan could see were bare walls, with harsh, white fluorescent lights glaring down, stirring an inexplicable sense of unease in his heart.

His instinct screamed that this place was dangerous, and he would live to regret it if he could

not escape soon.

“Who the hell are you? Why’d you bring me here? Do you know who I am?!

“Let me out! Let me out!”

Evan kept shouting repeatedly, yet no one responded to his words. Silence stretched on, thickening the creeping fear in the air.

“Tsk, is this all the courage you have? The Hale family really raised nothing but a useless fool.”

Leighton slipped one hand into his pocket, gazing coldly at the disheveled man trembling uncontrollably in the chair, and let out a mocking scoff.

“Who are you?! Who gave you the nerve to lock me up! Are you in league with those two bitches? You know perfectly well I am part of the Hale family. Release me immediately!”

After squinting for a moment to adjust his sight, Evan finally spotted the figure sitting across from him.

He was rather short in stature, much shorter than Leighton. His body ached all over, leaving him unable to stand straight, forcing him to tilt his head high just to look him in the eye.

“You’ve got a real sewer for a mouth.” A faint cold smirk tugged at Leighton’s red lips, and he splashed a full glass of water straight at Evan.

Water drenched Evan’s face completely.

“How dare you splash water on me!” Evan scrambled to wipe his face, propping himself up on the table to lunge forward and attack.

“You have no right to speak to me in such a manner.”

Leighton grabbed his wrist coldly and kicked out sharply.

“Ah-!”

A shrill, piercing scream echoed through the corridor, even reaching Zora waiting outside.

“You are far from worthy enough.” The icy words struck Evan hard, and he finally realized he had offended someone far too powerful to provoke.

Agonizing pain spread throughout his body, and he curled up on the ground, rolling in agony.

All his arrogance vanished in an instant, and he knew he would regret today for the rest of his life.

He had merely wanted to hold a party and sent out invitations to all the wealthy young heirs and socialites, yet none of them showed up. Only arrogant brats from insignificant families and newly rich upstarts attended, leaving him seething with anger.

His mood lightened instantly when he heard Hallie and Zora had arrived. But their cold attitude embarrassed him deeply, pushing him to seek revenge on them.

He never expected the two girls to be far tougher than they seemed.

“Don’t you ever set your sights on people you shouldn’t touch again. Next time, it won’t be this simple.”

Leighton cast a cold glance at the man writhing on the floor before walking out of the room, turning to give orders to Tristan outside.

“Stay here and handle this matter. Charge him with group affray and detain him for the maximum possible period. No bail. No visitors. And make sure someone takes real good care of him in there.”

“Understood, sir.”

“What was that?”

Zora frowned upon hearing the heart-wrenching cry. Having worked around injuries for a long time, she could easily tell how unbearable the pain must be.

“No idea.” Hallie shook her head, well aware of how ruthless Leighton could be.

“Thank you so much for helping me put on ointment, Kian.”

Her cheeks flushed slightly as she looked at Kian squatting in front of her, gently dabbing medicine on the bruise at the corner of her mouth with a cotton swab.

She had been jostled by the crowd earlier, leaving a noticeable dark bruise on her face.
