Chapter 235 Warm Care and Hidden Anger
Zora had headed out just to hang out and hadn’t brought any first aid ointment with her. Fortunately, Kian always kept a fully stocked medical kit in his car.

Worried they might get hurt after hearing about their scuffle, he grabbed the kit the moment he stepped out of his vehicle.
“No need to thank me. I should be thanking you for protecting Zora today.”
Kian spoke softly as he carefully dabbed medicine on her injury.
“It’s nothing. Keeping Zora safe is what I should do,” Hallie replied with a bright smile.
“I never knew you were this tough, able to fight off so many people all by yourself.” Kian let out a helpless, gentle smile, his tone warm and patient. “But next time, if you get into a fight, you have to protect yourself. If you’re outmatched, run first. Your safety always comes first.”
He had already checked Hallie’s shoulders and found no serious harm done; only the bruise at the corner of her mouth looked rather noticeable.
A faint cold glint flashed across his eyes as he continued applying the ointment slowly and carefully.
“I know how to protect myself. I could beat them fair and square, but I just got caught off guard this time. If they hadn’t ganged up on me, none of them could have stood a chance against me. And I can protect you too, Kian.”
Hallie nodded, unusually obedient, his caring words warming her heart and filling her with quiet joy.
Hallie had always kept her distance and stayed on the defensive, so those troublemakers could never get close to her easily. She had only lost her temper and taught them a lesson because Evan kept running his rude mouth nonstop.
She had been sent to military-style training camps ever since she turned seven, spending every winter and summer break there without interruption for a whole decade. Her combat skills were far beyond what ordinary people could handle.
“Alright then, I’ll rely on you to protect me from now on.”
Kian chuckled softly, tossed the used cotton swab into the trash can, sealed the medicine jar, and handed it to her.
“Apply this ointment three times a day. Your shoulders seem fine for now, but don’t take it lightly. Use the medicine once you get home and see if the discomfort fades. If it still hurts, head over to the hospital for a proper checkup.”

“Got it, thanks so much, Kian.” Hallie held the ointment tightly in her palm, still able to feel the faint warmth left on it.
Sitting off to the side, Zora stared at Hallie’s slightly flushed face and blinked repeatedly.
Does her mouth hurt that badly to make her face flush like this?
She couldn’t help sensing something off about Hallie’s mood, even noticing her heartbeat seemed a little uneven.
Zora was just about to check on her to see if she felt unwell when Leighton walked out.
“Zora…”
“Leighton.”
Zora’s eyes lit up the second she spotted him. He stood tall and neat in his dark casual wear, sharp-featured and poised, walking steadily straight toward her.
The stern coldness faded instantly the moment his gaze landed on Zora, his expression turning soft and gentle.
“Are you hurt anywhere?” He looked her over carefully.
He had already seen photos of her on the way here and caught sight of her in the lobby earlier, but he would never feel truly relieved until he saw her safe and sound with his own eyes.
“I’m totally fine. Hallie kept me safe the whole time, but she got injured instead.” Zora shook her head gently.
She regretted not bringing a stronger powder with her that day. All she had on hand were mild sleeping powder and skin irritants that caused itchy rashes, which were nowhere near enough to teach Evan a proper lesson. He had gotten off far too easily.
“Are you doing okay?” Leighton then turned to look at Hallie, his eyes sweeping over the bruise on her mouth as he frowned slightly, thinking the previous punishment was still too lenient.
He never worried about Hallie’s self-defense ability in the slightest, for he had personally trained her himself. Hardly anyone stood a chance against her.
“It’s nothing serious at all.” Hallie didn’t mind the minor injuries one bit. In fact, she secretly felt glad about this small accident, for it let her spend time alone with Kian and even get him to put medicine on her wounds.
It was well worth it in her eyes.
“Let’s head back home now, it’s getting too late.” Leighton reached out to take Zora’s hand, then glanced over at Kian. “I’ll drive these two girls home first.”

“Sure thing.” Kian nodded in agreement.

you coming with us too, Kian?” Hallie looked at him with obvious expectation in her
“You guys go on ahead. I still have some personal matters to take care of,” Kian smiled warmly, his gaze lingering briefly on her bruised mouth.
“Okay then.” Hallie’s mood dropped a little in disappointment. She had secretly hoped they could take a casual walk together on the way back.
“Drive safely on the road, and text me once you arrive home safely.”
“You too, stay safe on your way back,” Hallie smiled softly again before hurrying to catch up with Zora and Leighton, who were waiting outside the lobby.
Kian watched them leave, and his gentle smile faded. He looked at Theo, who’d just come out.
“Chief Carter, I’m a doctor. I’d like to check on the injured detainee inside.”
Hearing his calm, gentle voice, Theo couldn’t help but shudder inwardly.
He had already seen how badly beaten Evan was earlier; Leighton was truly ruthless without
mercy.
Now, even Kian was stepping forward to interfere. He could only silently feel sorry for Evan in his heart.
“Of course, follow me this way, Mr. Marlow.”
Theo led Kian straight back into the interrogation room once again.
