Chapter 27 Grandma’s Fury

It’s all her fault. If Zor hadn’t come back, Grandma would never have turned against me like this.

No matter how much hatred and jealousy burned inside her, Jolie was led away by Paul.

Only four people remained in the living room.

‘Grandma, why did you send Jolie away?” –

Holden saw right through Opal’s plan and asked in confusion.

He wasn’t stupid. He could tell his grandma was already upset, so he didn’t argue or stop the butler.

This was the Marlow Manor, not the Knox Villa.

They could argue among themselves at home, but here, Opal was in charge.

‘Holden! Is that how you speak to Zora at home?”

Opal didn’t answer. Her face turned cold.

Grandma…”

Holden opened his mouth, trying to explain.

Holden, I don’t care how you treat Jolie. But Zora is your real sister-your own blood.

You shout at the drop of a hat and treat her with nothing but disdain. Is that how you treat your sister? Do you act like this at home?” Opal said.

‘I…” Holden had no reply.

‘Are all your brothers the same way to her?” Opal pressed.

Her usually gentle eyes darkened with disappointment.

Holden thought about how he and his brothers had treated Zora. He wanted to defend himself, but under his grandma’s stare, he couldn’t lie.

“I see. Wendy, do you know how your sons treat Zora?”

Disapproval turned to anger in Opal’s eyes. She turned to her silent daughter.

“Mom… I didn’t know,” Wendy said honestly.

Her sons were always busy, rarely home. When they were, they spent time with Jolie. She barely saw them

with Zora.

Her sad, gentle eyes widened in shock as she looked at Holden.

“Holden, is that how you talk to your sister?”

Holden couldn’t meet their eyes.

‘Unbelievable! You’re all so blind! Zora is your own daughter, your own sister! How could you treat her like this?!”

Wendy’s ignorance and Holden’s evasiveness pushed Opal over the edge.

She’d tried to smooth things over between them. Smooth things over? My ass!

She only wanted to chase them all out now.

It was disgraceful.

No wonder Zora refused to go home.

‘Mom, don’t be upset. I’ll deal with them when we get home,” Wendy said quickly, afraid her mother would work herself up.

‘Grandma,” Holden said, worry in his eyes.

‘Grandma, don’t be mad. Please don’t hurt yourself over this,” Zora said softly, patting Opal’s back to calm

ner.

They’re all fools. How I raised such a foolish daughter… I’m sorry, Zora. Don’t worry. I’ll protect you,” Opal said, squeezing her hand.

Who would want to go back to a family that treated them like this?

It was laughable.

Wendy and Holden felt stung by being scolded like this.

They didn’t think they’d done something so terrible.

‘I’m not upset, Grandma. Please don’t be angry either,” Zora said, warmth spreading in her chest.

No one had stood up for her like this since she came to Seacrest.

r

‘I’m not mad. Not anymore. I can’t get sick-then no one would look after you,” Opal said, breathing slowly and stroking Zora’s hand.

She had to stay healthy. Her daughter was blind, her grandsons foolish, and they wouldn’t wake up anytime soon.

Zora had suffered enough.

“Mom, Zora is my daughter. Would I ever hurt her?” Wendy said, hurt.

Her mother made it sound like their home was some dangerous trap, like Zora would get eaten alive the moment she came home.

“You wouldn’t-but the people around you would. You’re blind. Jolie is not as innocent as you think!” Opal

“Mom, what does Jolie have to do with this? She already apologized Wendy defended her automatically.

‘Nothing to do with her? You wanted to send Zora away because of her! Wendy, Zora is your birth daughter-your flesh and blood! You lost her because of your carelessness! She suffered all those years away from family!”
