Zora was dressed in a cream knit dress with a thin coat over it, looking as pretty and light as a little butterfly.

“I told you to come inside and wait. Leighton’s already gone to work.”

Maya smiled and handed her the sunflower.

“Wow, you brought me flowers!” Zora’s eyes lit up happily at the beautiful sunflower.

“I bought a bouquet for my mom at the flower shop. This sunflower looked really nice, so I grabbed one for you too.”

“Thank you, Maya. It’s gorgeous.” Zora took the flower happily.

“Have you had breakfast? Should we go grab something to eat first?” Maya asked gently.

“I already ate. Leighton had someone drop off breakfast this morning. Did you eat? Let me treat you!”

Leighton had left for work early and arranged breakfast for her before he went out.

“I’ve eaten too.” Maya shook her head,

“Alright, let’s go see your mom then.”

It was a little past nine in the morning, and the two needed to head out to take the subway.

“Let’s just take a taxi,” Maya suggested.

The subway ride would take too long, and it would be crowded.

“No way, let’s take the subway instead. I’ve never ridden one before.”

The entire hospital was extremely quiet.

All the doctors and nurses walked softly.

The only noise came from a few patients being escorted outside for their daily walk, shouting that they were perfectly fine.

Maya would never have brought Zora to such a place if she hadn’t insisted on visiting her mother.

Seeing the gloomy environment, Maya tightened her grip on Zora’s hand and hurried toward the elevator.

The two went up to the sixteenth floor.

Some nurses recognized Maya and greeted her warmly. “You’re here to visit your mom again?”

Maya had chosen the best psychiatric hospital available for her mother. The facilities were great, and the medical staff were professional and responsible.

The whole floor stayed quiet, but through the windows of some rooms, they could see patients yelling loudly or pacing around, muttering to themselves while wrapped in bed sheets.
