The Real Heiress's New Family Adored By All novel Chapter 286

Chapter 286 The Antidote

“Her symptoms look exactly like mental illness, so all the doctors thought that was what she had.

“But the truth is, she’s been poisoned,” Zora explained.

Heart Corroding Poison was usually used to control people.

It was a cruel drug. It slowly eroded a person’s sanity bit by bit, until they turned completely crazy and helpless, unable to take care of themselves.

When she was young, Zora had come across records of this poison in her mentor’s medical books.

He had told her this poison was developed by a secret organization to control its members and force them to work loyally.

Anyone who betrayed the organization would be forced to watch themselves slowly lose their mind.

It was a poison that destroyed both body and soul.

She never thought she would encounter such a thing in real life.

“Is there a cure?” Maya asked in a hoarse voice.

Every symptom Zora had described matched Kimberly’s condition perfectly.

Her mother had never been the type to feel sorry for herself. She used to be a famous, brilliant cello master. After Maya’s father disappeared, neighbors said Kimberly had stayed strong and told everyone she could raise the kid on her own.

But everything changed after Maya was born. Kimberly’s personality slowly twisted, and her sanity faded day by day. When Maya was small, she often saw Kimberly clutching her hair, curling up in the corner in agony, and telling her to hide in her room.

As Maya grew older, Kimberly’s mood swings got worse. She smashed almost everything in the house. Sometimes her eyes turned bloodshot. She struggled to control herself and even grabbed her own neck, fighting the urge to hurt Maya.

Scared for Kimberly’s safety, Maya would step forward and let her hit her to release her frustration.

All the neighbors said Kimberly had gone crazy from severe depression.

The worst incident left Maya badly injured on the floor. Neighbors called the police, and Kimberly was officially diagnosed with mental illness and sent to the psychiatric hospital.

No one had ever guessed she was actually poisoned.

How had she gotten poisoned?

“There is a cure. I have a universal antidote for all poisons.”

Zora started rummaging through her bag.

After someone sprayed her with drugs in Leighton’s office last time, she started carrying antidote pills with her at all times, just in case.

Heart Corroding Poison had been almost impossible to cure more than a decade ago, but her mentor had already created a specific antidote for it.

“Maya, after she takes this pill, she’ll lose all her past memories,” Zora reminded her of the side effect first.

“Those memories… aren’t worth keeping. It’s better for her to forget.”

Maya glanced at Kimberly lying weakly on the hospital bed.

None of those old painful moments deserved to be remembered.

Even after losing her sanity all these years, Kimberly still clung to memories of that man. It would be a blessing for her to finally forget.

“I’ll give her the pill. You feed it to her.”

Zora pulled out a small bottle, shook one pill out, and handed it to Maya.

“The poison will leave her body completely in three to five days. But her sanity will take much longer to recover. She’s been mentally impaired for over ten years, so she’ll need plenty of time to get better.

“During her recovery, she’ll act just like a little kid and need people to teach her everything all over again,” Zora explained.

Zora had not expected Kimberly to be poisoned when she came here today.

But poisoning was far easier to fix than mental illness. She could cure poison, but true mental disorders would have required lengthy research and treatment.

Maya took the pill and walked over to the bed.

Kimberly was still holding the cloth doll tightly in her arms.

“Don’t cry, baby. Mommy will take good care of you.

“Maya… my Maya… my little girl,” Kimberly mumbled softly to herself.

“Mom, I have candy for you. Want a piece?” Maya’s heart ached as she spoke gently to soothe her.

“Candy… I want candy…” Kimberly whispered and opened her mouth obediently.

“Here, let me feed it to you.”

Maya moved closer and placed the pill into her mouth.

Kimberly had to take bitter medicine all year round and hated the taste.

She only cooperated when people told her she was getting candy.

The second the pill touched her tongue, bitter flavor spread across her mouth.

She opened her mouth to spit it out right away.

“Mom, it’s candy. It’ll taste sweet once you swallow it.”

Maya gently held her jaw steady.

“Swallow this, and you’ll get better. Then we can go home.”

But Kimberly refused to swallow. She struggled fiercely, kicking her legs and flailing her arms, hitting Maya repeatedly.

She let out muffled sounds of resistance.

“Maya, let me help.”

Zora stepped forward to assist, holding Kimberly’s arms firmly to calm her down.

Trapped and unable to fight free, Kimberly bit down hard on the back of Maya’s hand.

Her teeth sank deep into the fair skin, drawing blood instantly.

“I’m fine.”

Maya didn’t even flinch from the sharp pain.

She slightly tilted Kimberly’s chin upward. A small gurgle sounded in Kimberly’s throat, and she finally swallowed the pill.

Once the pill went down, Zora pinched Kimberly’s cheeks to force her mouth open, freeing Maya’s injured hand.
