Leighton drove Zora back home. He still worried about her, even though they had only spent a few minutes in the car. He was glad he had asked how she felt.
“I’m fine. I only breathed in the fumes for a little while, so nothing bothers me.”
Zora had held her breath gently the whole ride.
Leighton parked the car in the parking lot, and the two of them took the elevator up to their
apartment.
“You said you’d make fish for me today. I’d also like some grilled meat.” Zora kicked off her shoes and stood right where she was.
“I haven’t forgotten. Go do your schoolwork first. The food will be ready by the time a bit.” Leighton lined her shoes up neatly in the shoe cabinet.

“I want to put the flower in water. Do you have a vase?” Zora still held the flower in her hands.
“There are some in the storage room. Pick whichever one you like.” Leighton took off his coat and rolled up his sleeves slowly.
“Wait, those are all antiques. You really want me to use one for flowers?” Zora stared at him in surprise.

Leighton’s storage room was filled with all kinds of rare treasures. Some were worth millions, and others even tens of millions. This room only held part of his collection. Word had it that Pierce Manor had a whole basement packed with valuables. Any random vase there cost a fortune. It shocked her that he would let her use one just for flowers.
Still, those antique vases were truly stunning. Zora loved pretty things, whether they were objects or people. They always lifted her mood.
“Why not? They’re all lovely. I thought you’d like them. If none catch your eye, I’ll have new ones sent over right away.” Leighton spoke in a relaxed tone.
“They’re way too easy to break.” She frowned. His things were far too expensive. She could never pay for them if she damaged one.
“Just grab another if one breaks. I can always buy more. Even if you break every last one, it won’t matter to me at all. Go on, pick your favorite.”
A soft smile tugged at Leighton’s lips when he saw her worried look. He gave her a light push on

In the end, Zora chose a sky-blue vase. The vase shimmered like a fine gem, smooth and warm to the touch.
She unwrapped the sunflower, trimmed its stems, and set it inside the vase. Then she placed it beside her desk. Sunlight streamed through the window and fell gently on the corner of the desk, making the whole spot look beautiful.
“Found one you like?”
Leighton was busy cooking in the kitchen when Zora walked in. He handed her a bunch of washed grapes.
“Yep.” Zora nodded. She popped a grape into her mouth, then held one up to Leighton. “These taste really sweet.”
“They sure do. Don’t eat too many, though. Dinner will be ready soon.” Leighton bit into the fruit, and sweet juice filled his mouth.
“Head outside for now. The kitchen has cooking fumes.” He glanced over at her. Fumes of any kind always made her feel sick if she breathed them in too long.
“The range hood is sucking all the smoke away.” Zora watched the fumes get pulled up right
away.
“It still lingers a little. Be good and go wait outside,” Leighton coaxed her.
“I made you a herbal tonic. Blend it up in the blender, then have a cup every day. It’s your spleen and stomach.”

Zora pulled a small cloth bag of ingredients from her pocket. She had put it together while preparing medicine for Kimberly earlier.
The nourishing soups had already helped build up Leighton’s health. But constant medicine was not good for the body. He had been extremely weak before, so regular medicine had been necessary. Now that he was doing better, she wanted him to rely on a herbal tonic instead.
The ingredients were simple and worked well to nourish the spleen and kidneys.
When Leighton saw the cloth bag, he thought she had made more strong medicine for him. He had drunk bitter herbal brews every single day for a whole month and was truly tired of them.
Those drinks always left him feeling overheated. He let out a quiet breath of relief once he heard it was just a herbal tonic.
“Should I make extra? We can drink it together.” He did not want to enjoy this alone.

“I made this just for you. I don’t need it. I’m perfectly healthy.” Zora remembered drinking too much herbal tonic as a child and quickly turned him down.
“I talked to the doctor. A little herbal drink would be good for you too. I’ll make another portion, and we’ll have it side by side.” Leighton smiled and took the ingredient bag from her hand.
The earlier medicinal soups had been too strong for her. This mild blend was gentle and safe for anyone. He insisted they share it.
“This is meant to help you get better. I’m in great shape. I really don’t need any.”
