Chapter 292 The Grand Manor

George looked at Zora, and his eyes grew wet with emotion.

He had worked at this manor for five years. All that time, he had never met his employer. Money arrived in his account on time every month, yet without seeing the person in charge, he always feared he might lose his job out of the blue.

So when he got the call saying someone was coming to check the place, he was overjoyed. At long last, the employer had arrived.

The person who hired him had told him long ago that whoever showed up with the key was the rightful owner of the manor, and everyone here must follow that person’s orders.

“Miss, please get in the car.”

George held the car door open for Zora respectfully.

The vehicle drove up the mountain road toward the manor.

“Miss, where do you live now? Will you be moving back here? I can have the staff tidy up rooms right away. What style do you prefer? Do you like white, yellow, blue or purple decor…?”

George sat in the front passenger seat and chattered excitedly to Zora in the back.

“Tell me about the manor first.”

Zora knew almost nothing about this place. She had only planned to take a quick look, but the moment George saw her, he called her miss and talked nonstop.

She guessed her mentor must have told the staff about her identity. Since her mentor had arranged all these people, Zora trusted them fully.

“Of course. I’ve been the housekeeper here for five years. I’ve waited for you all this time. All the workers here grew worried, afraid you would abandon us.”

The more he spoke, the sadder he sounded.

He was truly grateful to his new employer. His last boss had fired him just because of his age. This job had given him a new chance. For years, he had taken great care of the manor, always wondering when the owner would come. And the wait had stretched on for five whole years.

Zora listened to him ramble on. She did not feel annoyed at all; the chatty old man was actually quite amusing. She sorted out the key points from his long talk.

The Hale Manor had been placed under George’s management five years ago. That meant her mentor had bought it back then. None of the staff had ever met the real owner. A manager would come around every now and then to check on things and tell everyone to wait for the

No one knew who the final owner would be. Many people had asked George to get in touch with the person in charge, hoping to buy the manor, but all those attempts failed.

Zora was the first person to arrive with the key. That was why everyone here recognized her as their new employer.

It took about half an hour to drive all the way up the mountain.

Zora stared at the enormous French-style manor that stretched far into the distance. Thick green trees surrounded the whole estate. It had a main mansion plus many smaller buildings scattered around.

Flowering vines twisted around the main gate arch, and detailed carvings covered the pillars along the walkways. The place looked grand, romantic and luxurious. It felt like a home fit for a princess.

Zora had expected the place to look empty and run-down, but everything was neat and well kept. She should have known-her mentor always thought of everything.

The car pulled into the parking area inside the manor grounds.

“Miss, let’s get out. We’ll take a tour cart to look around, and I’ll show you everything.”

George got out and opened Zora’s door again.

Outside the parking lot, two long lines of servants stood waiting, all dressed in their work

uniforms.

Zora stepped out of the car.

“Greetings, Miss! Welcome home!”

They spoke in loud, unified voices.

Zora fell silent.

“Tell them to stand down,” she said flatly to George beside her. The whole scene made her feel awkward.

“Did you not like it?” George looked confused. He had read plenty of romance stories where young heiresses loved grand welcomes to show off their status. Why did she not even crack a smile?

Zora just stared at him, letting her silence speak for itself.

Seeing she really disliked the arrangement, George waved his hands and told everyone to leave.

He made up his mind to learn more about her tastes.

“Miss, are you hungry? Our chef just baked pastries and cookies. Please enjoy some.”

Zora and George climbed onto the tour cart. As they rode through the grounds, he pointed out every spot one by one.

“This is the rose garden over here. That area has private hot springs. There’s the banquet hall, the library building and the art studio. Over yonder are the horse stables and the golf course.”
