Chapter 308 A Sudden Attack
Zora was Wayne’s biological daughter after all. So why had he taken such huge risks to swap the babies? Even if he cared deeply for his lover’s child, there was no reason to treat his own flesh and blood so cruelly. The Knox family was well off and could easily raise two girls.
Wendy had never been the type to play favorites. She would have loved and cared for both kids equally.
Even if Wayne had disliked the daughter Wendy gave birth to, he could have kept her around. She could have been used for business marriages to bring him more benefits. Wayne was a selfish man, and he surely knew this plan.
Yet he chose to switch the babies instead.
From what the nurse said, Wayne had known what Eira did. He might even have been the one who told her to do it.
The nurse also mentioned that when Wayne saw the newborn baby, there was no joy of a new father in his eyes—only disgust.
In the surveillance clip, Wayne had called Zora a bastard. It made people wonder if Zora was really his daughter.
That could not be true though. Foolish as she was, Wendy would never have gotten involved with another man.
Jensen could tell there were still missing pieces to the story. He decided to send more people to dig up the full truth.

Meanwhile, Wendy broke down after hearing everything. Tears streamed down her face. Her eyes were red and swollen, and she stared blankly into space, lost and hollow.
The truth hurt far more than any trouble she had faced before.
Her husband had cheated on her for over a decade. She had raised his lover’s child all these
years.
The nurse had said both women were due around the same time. That meant Wayne had slept with her, then gone straight to be with another woman.
The thought turned her stomach. She doubled over and threw up.
She hadn’t eaten anything all day, so only bitter bile came up. A terrible taste filled her mouth.
Every heave sent sharp pain through her chest. Her heart felt utterly shattered.
She was too overwhelmed to catch a key detail in Jensen’s words.

He had kept saying Jolie was the daughter of Wayne’s lover, not Wayne’s own daughter. Lost in overwhelming grief, she never noticed the difference.
Wendy looked drained, like all the life had been sucked out of her. “How could he do this to me… He’s a liar…” She mumbled, grabbing fistfuls of her own hair and acting hysterical.
“Why… why me? What did I ever do wrong?”
Then she screamed at the top of her lungs. Thinking about Wayne’s cold attitude, his harsh shouts, his insults, and that slap across her face these past days, everything finally clicked.
“Grandma, let’s go. I’ve contacted the Knox family to come pick her up.” Jensen turned to Floyd, Opal and the others.
Everyone was stunned by the dark secrets.
Before all the trouble with Zora began, Wayne had put on a perfect act. Everyone in their social circle said Wendy had married a great man who doted on her. No one guessed he had been cheating for more than ten years.
The whole ugly truth made everyone feel sick.
Wendy had chosen Wayne herself. After returning from the countryside, she could not stop thinking about him. She had even begged Opal to help him get into college. The two had been inseparable back then. No one imagined his love could fade so fast.
“Let’s leave,” Opal sighed.
She glanced at Wendy sitting on the floor. She felt a flicker of pity, but would not lift a finger to help.
From then on, whatever happened to Wendy was no longer the Marlow family’s concern.
“Watch your step, Floyd.”
Opal and the others stepped around Wendy. They were done with her for good.
Jensen walked beside Opal to support her. Kian helped Floyd, and Reed stayed close by.
Right then, disaster struck.
“Grandpa!”
“It’s all your fault! Why did you make me learn the truth?!”
They spun around and saw Wendy’s face twisted with rage. She grabbed a vase and hurled it straight at Floyd.

No one had expected her to lash out so suddenly, and they could not stop her in time.
“Floyd!”
“Grandpa!”
Blood welled up from Floyd’s neck. His eyes went wide for a second, then his gaze turned unfocused. His body went limp and he fell backward. Reed rushed forward and caught him.
Floyd was elderly. Shards from the broken vase had cut deep into his neck, and blood flowed freely.
All the color drained from Opal’s face. Her legs gave out.
“Kian, check on Grandpa right away!”
Jensen’s expression turned cold. He pulled out his phone and dialed the emergency number.
Kian hurried over to examine Floyd’s wound. The whole family was overcome with worry and
sorrow.
“He needs to get to the hospital fast,” Kian said, his heart sinking. “His condition is critical. I can’t tell how deep the injury is just by looking. We need professional medical scans right away.”
