Chapter 313 Silent Sacrifice
Finished
This was the first time Zora had ever used this set of acupuncture techniques for real. She never thought her first patient would be Floyd. The weight on her heart was immense.
The Marlow family had always been kind to her. Everything that had happened to Floyd was partly her fault. If it weren’t for her troubles, Wendy would never have lost her mind and acted so recklessly.
If anything happened to Floyd, Zora would never be able to face the Marlows.
The group waited from dusk long into the night.
“I thought it was only four hours. Why aren’t they out yet? Is something wrong?”
Opal kept her eyes fixed on the door. Her hands and feet were cold. Though only a few hours had passed, she looked several years older all at once, her figure slouched over with exhaustion.
“They’re coming out…”
The private room door swung open.
“Zora!”
Zora’s face was deathly pale.
Kian held her up. She could barely stand on her own. Her hands trembled at her sides, and her lips had no trace of color.

Some parts of her lips were chapped and broken, stained with faint traces of blood.
Leighton rushed forward instantly to support her.
The unease in his heart was confirmed.
He looked down at Zora in his arms, his heart twisting tightly with pain.
Her face had finally regained some healthy color after careful care, yet now it was pale and gaunt all over again.
“Zora…” The second Opal saw her state, her eyes turned red with heartache. She even forgot to ask about Floyd’s condition.
“Grandpa… is fine… don’t worry…”
Zora forced the words out in a fragile voice. Dizziness crashed over her harder and harder. She could no longer hold on and fainted, her head falling weakly against Leighton’s chest.

Leighton lifted her into his arms in a bridal hold. He pressed her head close to his chest. She felt terrifyingly light, and his heart ached fiercely.
Thick gauze wrapped around her hanging hands, with faint blood seeping through the bandages.
“What’s wrong with Zora…” The whole family panicked seeing her collapse.
Kian’s eyes were full of distress. “She’s completely worn out. Mr. Morgan said she just needs proper rest at home.
“Grandpa is alright. He just needs a period of recovery. Mr. Morgan is still inside finishing up the final treatment. You can go in and see Grandpa now.”
Kian glanced at the open door behind him, where Chet was wrapping up the procedure.
Zora had simply run out of strength and had to let Chet take over.
Very few people mastered the Eighteen Meridian Technique. It was extremely difficult. Most could not even memorize the exact needle points, let alone perform hundreds of precise insertions in a row. One single mistake meant starting all over again.
Worst of all, it drained massive mental energy.
The needles were extremely thin. Even a tiny lapse of focus would make your vision blur. People with poor stamina could never last through the process. After six straight hours, anyone’s hands would go weak and numb.
“Leighton, I’ll come with you to send Zora home.”
Kian turned to look at Leighton, who was holding Zora in his arms.
Leighton walked quickly toward the exit with Zora held securely, and Kian followed closely behind them.
“What happened to her hands?”
The three of them sat in the back of the car. Leighton never let go of Zora. Every time he loosened his hold, she would frown.
He gently lifted her bandaged hands, his tone turning cold and low.
“Zora accidentally hurt her hands pretty badly. She can’t stand the sight of blood. Don’t let her see any blood when you change her bandages.”
Kian knew the special secret of Zora’s blood, but he would never tell a soul. He only focused on telling Leighton how to take care of her properly.

Leighton could tell he was hiding something. He looked at her pale hands. They were completely bloodless, like those of a very sick person.
His heart ached. He brushed his fingers gently over her cold fingertips. Her hands were freezing, trembling nonstop from sheer exhaustion.

Leighton wrapped both of her hands tightly in his to warm them up, tucking one hand inside his pocket.
Kian watched Zora anxiously. She had never been in good health. She’d lost a large amount of blood and hadn’t gotten proper rest. Yet she’d pushed herself to maintain full focus for six straight hours of acupuncture.
Her body was never meant to handle such extreme exhaustion. She’d survived purely on sheer willpower.
Once Floyd’s condition stabilized, that last burst of strength faded away, and she finally collapsed.
The two men brought Zora back to her room and stayed by her side, refusing to leave.
Kian could not bring himself to leave until she woke up.
In the middle of the night, Zora spiked a high fever. They gave her fever medicine, and the fever finally broke near dawn.
“You should head back. Go check on your grandpa. I’ll stay here and look after Zora.”
Leighton noticed the exhaustion on Kian’s face and spoke softly.,
“I’ll go check on Grandpa then. Call me the second Zora wakes up.”
Kian was truly worried about Floyd, so he agreed to leave.
