Chapter 315 Warm Reassurance

Leighton held her gently in his arms and fed her another spoonful of soup.

Most people lost their appetite when they were sick, but she had been thinking about meat the second she woke up.

“Alright then.”

Zora relaxed, knowing she would get to eat meat later. She finished the soup slowly. She had not eaten anything since the night before, and her stomach ached badly from hunger. The warm soup eased the sharp pain a little.

She had no idea what time it was. She felt like she was starving.

“What time is it? Do I need to head to school?” Zora asked as Leighton stood up to get more

food.

“It’s already nighttime,” Leighton checked the time and answered.

“Nighttime? Really?” Zora was shocked. She had thought it was early morning. She had slept so deeply, and her whole body still ached all over. She never expected an entire day to pass.

This was the first time Zora had used the Eighteen Meridian Technique on a real person. She had learned the skill from her mentor and practiced on mannequins before, but she had never used it for real treatment.

Her mentor had warned her to save it for true emergencies only. The technique drained a person’s energy heavily, and the aftereffects could last a long while.

A person’s energy was vital. When it was worn away, they felt weak and listless. That was exactly how Zora felt right now. Every part of her body hurt.

“Don’t worry. I already called your school to excuse you,” Leighton said before walking out with the bowl.

A little strength came back to Zora after drinking the soup. She turned her body, stretched out an arm and grabbed her phone. She wondered how Floyd was doing.

She unlocked the screen and saw countless missed calls and messages. Some were from Hallie, some from group chats, plenty from Jensen and his brothers, and most of all from Maya.

Moving felt like a huge effort. Her fingers were weak as she tapped the screen. She found Jensen’s number and placed a call.

Her heart felt uneasy while waiting for him to pick up. She feared the Marlows might blame

her.

Jensen answered right away, like he had been waiting by the phone. “Zora, you’re awake? Do you still feel unwell? I’ll head over to you right now…”

His warm, caring words made Zora’s eyes sting. He didn’t blame her at all.

“Jensen, I’m fine. You don’t have to come over. How is Grandpa? Is he doing okay?” Zora held the phone over the nightstand. She barely had the strength to keep holding it.

“Is that Zora? How is she? Has she woken up? Does she still hurt anywhere? Butler, get the car ready at once!” Opal’s voice came through the line next.

“Zora, dear, tell me how you feel. I’m coming to see you soon. Wait for me.” Her tone was rushed and full of worry.

“Grandma, I’m really fine. It’s late now, so please don’t come out. I’m doing well.” Zora tried to sound relaxed.

It was already nine o’clock at night. She couldn’t believe she had slept the whole day through.

“Then I’ll come first thing tomorrow morning,” Opal said softly and kindly.

“Okay.” A small smile tugged at Zora’s lips as she agreed.

“Floyd, wake up! Zora’s on the phone!”

Zora heard Opal walk into another room and rouse Floyd from his sleep.

“Is it Zora calling?” Floyd asked. He had woken up earlier that day.

Chet had told them this accident had turned out for the better. The old headaches that had bothered Floyd for years were gone for good.

The whole family had planned to visit Zora, but Leighton told them she was still asleep and needed rest. So they had stayed home and waited patiently.

“Grandpa, are you feeling better? Does anything still hurt?” Zora spoke into the phone.

“I’m all better now. Our Zora is a true healer. Thanks to you, I’ve fully recovered.” Floyd’s voice was a little rough, yet he spoke with a soft smile.

After narrowly surviving this ordeal, Floyd held no resentment in his words.

“Grandpa… I’m sorry. None of this trouble would have happened if not for me. I’m so sorry.” Zora’s throat tightened.

She had worried the Marlows would hold things against her. Her own mother hated her deeply, and the Marlows had gotten hurt just for standing by her side. If anything worse had happened to Floyd, Zora would have felt guilty for the rest of her life.

“Zora, don’t blame yourself. This was never your fault. You did an amazing job, and you’re the reason I’m safe now. You’re our little lucky star. Once you get your strength back, come over and have a family dinner with us, alright?”
