Chapter 370 Playing With His Wrist

Leighton knew she was not going anywhere. He relaxed and went back to ordering food.

With his attention off her, Zora set her fingers on his wrist.

Her fine fingertips touched his pale skin. Blue veins showed just beneath the surface.

Leighton had fair skin, and Zora envied it a little.

She checked his pulse. Months of steady care had fixed nearly half the damage to his body.

He was young. More rest and consistent care would let his body heal fully over time.

Leighton did not focus fully on the menu while she worked. He kept part of his attention on her.

He waited until she finished taking his pulse and said nothing in a murmur, then went back to ordering food.

Zora glanced at him, her eyes fixed on the soft skin of his wrist.

The skin there was thin and tender, nice to the touch.

She pressed her thumb to his wrist, pinched a small piece of skin, and rubbed it gently.

The skin moved under her fingers.

A small, happy smile came to Zora’s lips.

Leighton saw every little move from the corner of his eye and shook his head with a quiet laugh.

She was just like a child, amused simply by toying with his hand.

He felt her struggle to pinch properly, so he bent his wrist a little. The skin loosed up and felt softer.

Zora smiled wider and kept pinching and rubbing his wrist.

“Having fun?”

Leighton spoke once she had played long enough.

Zora froze. She saw the faint red mark on his skin.

She tried to pull her hands back, but his voice stopped her. She looked up and gave a sheepish

smile.

“Are you done ordering?”

She rubbed the red spot fast, trying to cover what she had done.

“I thought you were checking my pulse. Your technique seems off.”

Leighton smiled softly. He saw her fluster and stared at the red skin on his wrist.

“It’s your body’s fault!” Zora replied right away. “Your pulse is so weak I had to press harder.”

“Oh?” Leighton drew out the word and went along with her excuse.

“Is my body really that bad? Then you have to fix it for me. My health is your job until I heal completely.”

“I will! I’ll get your body back to perfect shape!”

Zora nodded fast, just wanting him to drop the topic of the red mark.

She had gotten carried away and not controlled her strength.

“I’m holding you to that.” Leighton’s tone turned serious. “Don’t stop halfway. Don’t leave me stuck like this.”

“Mm!” Zora nodded quickly.

She would heal his body before she left.

Zora could fix his physical body, but she had no cure for his insomnia.

She believed it came from a trauma 17 years prior. Hallie warned her never to ask about it, or it would hurt him again.

Zora knew nothing of the past event, so she had no clear way to treat him.

She planned to ask her mother or grandfather about it someday.

Those old wounds had to heal first, or he would never get better.

Zora noticed his medicine worked less and less over time.

She often woke up at night and saw the light on in his study, even in the late hours.

His body healed slowly, but his mental state showed little improvement.

Zora thought about her candy jar. She guessed her mentor would come for her in two to three months at most.

“What are you thinking about?”

Leighton pinched her cheek and pulled her out of her thoughts.

She always zoned out mid conversation.

“Nothing!” Zora snapped back and pulled her face away.

“Did the food come? I heard this shop serves really fast.”

“Only the greens. I’ve got them ready.”

Leighton’s words killed all her excitement for the meal.

“You didn’t have to say that.”

Zora frowned at the greens floating in the melted cheese. They looked plain and unappetizing.

She turned to look at the shop window.

The restaurant had nice decor. Hollow window frames held fake snow scenes that looked very real.
