Chapter 371 Snow Talk

“Leighton, does it snow here?”

Zora looked at the fake snow displays by the window, feeling curious.

She grew up in the south with her mentor and had never seen real snow.

She’d only seen snow online. It looked beautiful, and she’d always wanted to see it in real life.

She traced the window with her fingers, watching the light, fake snow scenery. She reached out to touch it, but there was nothing there.

A small look of disappointment crossed her face.

“It barely snows in Seacrest. If you want to see real snow, Hillside gets snow every winter.

“I’ll take you over winter break. They’ve got a big ice and snow park there. You’ll love it. We can stay two days and just have fun.”

Leighton glanced at the artificial snow outside. Seacrest almost never snowed. He could only recall about ten snow days in his entire life.

The last snow was two years ago, right before he went abroad.

“Oh.”

Zora’s mood dropped a little.

“Food’s ready. Your favorite meat is done.”

Leighton fished the cooked meat out of the fondue pot and set it on her plate.

“Meat!”

Zora forgot her disappointment at once. Her eyes lit up, staring at the meat on her plate.

A bright smile spread over her lips.

All her earlier sadness was gone.

Zora was super easy to cheer up. Good food could fix almost any bad mood she had.

Leighton smiled softly at her reaction.

He always fed her well, yet she still got this excited over simple meat.

Zora focused on eating and didn’t notice Leighton pick up his phone mid-meal.

She grabbed her milk to open it, then saw he hadn’t eaten and was still on his phone.

“Why aren’t you eating? Another work thing come up?”

She thought work had popped up again and lowered her voice.

She set the milk down and picked up her spoon, ready to scoop some food for him.

Leighton put his phone down. He picked up the milk she’d set down and opened it for her.

He handed it to her just as Zora filled his plate with food.

Their hands brushed in the air.

Both of them smiled.

Neither was surprised by the other’s little gesture.

It was their normal routine. When work distracted Leighton during meals, he’d always come back to a full plate of food from her, like she was worried he wouldn’t eat enough.

Leighton had his own little habit too. He always watched over her while they ate, and kept adding food to her plate.

Whenever she was busy eating spicy food and couldn’t free her hands, he’d have an opened milk ready, knowing she’d get thirsty fast.

Zora put down her spoon, took the milk, and took a big drink.

Her lips were bright red from the spicy food.

She couldn’t handle spice very well, but she always chose the spicy cheese pot.

Her whole face turned pink from the spice, and a thin layer of sweat formed on her forehead.

She fanned her cheeks after drinking the milk.

The restaurant had strong heating. The spicy food made her feel warm all over.

Zora took off her coat, not sure where to put it. Before she could decide, Leighton reached over and took it from her.

He hung it neatly on the back of his chair.

“Broccoli’s ready.”

After fixing her coat, Leighton held broccoli over the cheese fondue to dip it.

She could eat broccoli, but she hated leafy green veggies entirely.

“Do I really have to eat greens? It’s already so good. Why do I need these boring veggies?”

Zora let out a helpless sigh.

“Eight more months.”

In eight months, she would turn 18.

Her body would fully stabilize once she became an adult.

She was practically an adult already, both mentally and physically.

“Only eight more months…”

Zora rested her chin in her hands.

She still had eight months left of forcing herself to eat vegetables.

As they talked, Leighton pulled the broccoli off the skewer after dipping it in the cheese.

She only ate veggies that were crisp. She refused mushy or undercooked ones, only liking the perfect firm texture.

“Poor me, being forced to eat greens.”

Zora stared at the broccoli on her plate, sighed, and picked it up like it was a chore.

She chewed slowly, clearly not enjoying the taste at all.

“You’re so dramatic. Want some sausage instead?”

Leighton laughed at her bitter face, like the broccoli was something terrible.

He never understood why she hated greens so much.

He didn’t know how Asher got her to eat veggies before. After all this time together, Leighton still hadn’t found a way to make her eat greens willingly.
