Chapter 51 A Favoritism Only Zora Gets
,
His professor told him he had to finish the experiment first before he could transfer to the hospital and work as a doctor.
“Grandma, please thank Kian for me.”
Zora hadn’t expected to get a back-to-school gift at all, and she looked genuinely surprised. She lowered her gaze to the box in Opal’s hands, which held a plush doll inside.
A gentle curve formed on Zora’s brows and eyes.
“Zora, all packed up? We’re off to school now.”
Upstairs, Jensen came downstairs dressed in casual clothes.
His hair was combed back, revealing his handsome, defined features. Resting well lately, he carried a mature, captivating aura about him.
“Jensen.”
Seeing him come down, Zora took small steps over to him.
“Did you sleep well last night, Zora?”
Jensen looked at her with a soft smile playing on his lips, his deep eyes warm with fondness.
“Mm-hmm.”
Reed stared at the smile on Jensen’s face, utterly stunned.
Was this really Jensen?
For as long as Reed could remember, Jensen had always been stern and cold-faced.
After stepping into the business world, his aura grew even more commanding-Reed never dared fool around in front of him.
Now watching Jensen treat Zora with such uncharacteristic warmth, Reed sighed inwardly
Damn, Zora’s charm is off the charts-even Jensen’s totally changed because of her.
“All set? If you are, let’s go. And fix your hair-I don’t want it looking the same when you come home tonight.”
Jensen’s gaze shifted to Reed, and his demeanor flipped in an instant. Though his features still looked calm, Reed felt an unmistakable sense of pressure and immediately stood up straight.

“Yes, sir,” Reed replied meekly.
“Zora, have you gotten all your things ready? It’s time for us to leave.”
Jensen turned right back to Zora, his tone soft and gentle once again.
“I’m ready, Jensen.”

Zora bent to pick up her schoolbag from the sofa, ready to sling it over her shoulder, when Jensen took it from her hand at once.
“Thank you.” Whenever she was with Jensen, Zora never had to carry a single thing herself.
“Do you want to take the doll with you?”
Jensen noticed her staring at the doll in the gift bag and asked with a smile.
“Can I?” Zora asked quietly.
It was a gift from Kian, and she hated leaving it all alone at home.
“Of course you can, if you want to.” Jensen ruffled her hair lightly.
“Grab your bag and let’s go.”
Having witnessed Jensen’s blatant favoritism firsthand, Reed silently went to fetch his own schoolbag.
As they neared the school gates, Jensen turned to Reed with instructions.
“Look after Zora at school, Reed. Call me right away if anything happens.”
They attended Havenridge High together, both seniors-Reed in the honors class, Zora in the international program.
Though Reed came off as laid-back and easygoing, his grades consistently ranked in the top three in the grade.
Zora’s academic performance was far from outstanding, and the Knox family had donated heavily to get her placed in the international program.
The program was filled with wealthy heirs and socialites with average grades. Most would study overseas after graduating senior year, while others would buy their way into prestigious domestic universities.
Jensen had originally planned to transfer Zora into the same class as Reed, but sensing she had

He’d also looked up her old school records privately… and it was clear she simply wasn’t cut out for academic work.
If books weren’t her strength, then they’d let her live comfortably and happily instead.
Jensen never pressured her to excel in school; all he wanted was for Zora to be happy.
School wasn’t the only path in life anyway.
Besides, even if she struggled with studies, he’d always be there to back her up.
Zora loved medical studies, and he could find her the best mentors later on to focus on that path alone.
She would never lack options for her future.
Right now, all Jensen cared about was Zora’s peace of mind and joy.
Knowing how poorly she’d been treated at the Knox Villa, he asked for nothing more than to see her grow up happy and carefree.
“The cafeteria food at Havenridge is amazing,” Jensen said softly to Zora, his tone warm again. “Pay attention in class if you can, but if not, just enjoy the meals and take good care of yourself. I’ll come pick you up this evening.”
“Okay.” Hearing how good the school cafeteria food was, Zora lost most of her dread about going to school.
She was already looking forward to lunch.
If Jensen said it tasted great, it definitely would.
“We’ve arrived, Mr. Marlow.”
The car slowed to a stop, the driver speaking from the front seat.
The three of them stepped out of the vehicle.

“Anton, I’m here. You can head back now-thank you for driving me.”
No sooner had they gotten out of the car than another vehicle pulled up behind them.
Jolie stepped out, dressed in a pale green dress with delicate makeup. She stood gracefully like fresh spring buds unfurling, a soft, gentle smile on her face as she spoke warmly to Anton.
Passing students caught sight of Jolie and couldn’t help murmuring in surprise.

“We haven’t seen Jolie all summer, and she’s gotten even prettier.”
“Her voice is so soft and sweet… I wish she’d talk to me like that.”
