She’d made another batch of pills the night before and taken one before bed.

The sleep had been deep and peaceful. This morning, she actually felt awake for once, sitting in class and scrolling through her phone.

The room buzzed with chatter. A group of boys clustered together, their faces full of excitement.

“We’re finally gonna see Brie in person! I can’t believe this!”

“Right? I heard the honors class and the advanced class are having a joint session. Ms. Reed asked the principal herself. We seriously hit the jackpot!”

“And it’s fate, man! Brie’s class got matched with ours!”

Cassia frowned slightly. A joint class? When did that happen?

She looked around.

Most of her classmates avoided her anyway, so it wasn’t a surprise she was the last to know.

Sacha caught her glance and quickly spoke up. “I think Ms. Reed told the class rep, and they passed it along. Honestly, I just found out myself.”

Cassia met her eyes for a second. “Eh.” She went back to her phone. “It’s fine,” she said simply.

It didn’t make a difference to her. A class was still just a class.

Then the room exploded with noise.

“Brie’s here!”

“Oh my god, Kaleb’s with her!”

“He’s so hot! She’s stunning! I can’t deal with this!”

“They look incredible together! Literal perfection!”

The classroom turned into chaos as everyone rushed toward the front like fans at a red–carpet event.

Brie and Kaleb stepped inside, walking side by side. They carried an aura so striking it felt like the lights in the room bent toward them.

Most of the honors class students had already seen her at Brie’s birthday party and hadn’t forgotten her since. But a few who hadn’t gone were seeing Cassia for the first time, and it showed in their stunned faces.

When the silence finally broke, every gaze shifted from Cassia to Brie.

Brie was gorgeous. That much was clear. But standing next to Cassia made her shine seem dimmer, her charm less striking. Cassia’s beauty felt almost unnatural, as if she had been sculpted to perfection by something higher than human hands.
