The Returned Heiress Who Had It All (Cassia) novel Chapter 122

Chapter 122 Her Past

Draven already knew Cassia was Vance’s daughter. He also knew she’d grown up in a small, forgotten orphanage out in the country.

Right out of the orphanage and thrown into the Woods. That girl had never known warmth.

And yet, she’d turned out exceptional.

His mind replayed everything he knew about her-

She was a miracle doctor, a pianist, a jewelry designer for top brands, and a gemstone expert.

Strong. Brilliant. Fearless. Unforgettable.

Behind all of it, she carried herself with a strength and hope he could barely comprehend.

If that was who she was, then he wanted to carry some of it for her.

He didn’t want her to be that strong anymore.

He didn’t want her to carry everything alone.

A quiet creak came from upstairs as the door to the suite opened.

Cassia stepped out and descended the stairs.

Cassia, are you alright?Nicole asked. She had seen the two men bring medicine earlier but didn’t know what kind. Cassia still looked pale.

I’m fine,Cassia said.

Her color had mostly come back, and she seemed steady again.

Nicole let out a breath. Good. I figured even if something happened, you’d know how to handle it. You’re the doctor, after all. No need for anyone else to panic.”

She said it casually, never realizing Cassia was actually anemic. She’d never even seen Cassia fall ill. She assumed Cassia had just felt tired and rested a bit to regain her strength.

Yeah,Cassia murmured.

She’d have to keep taking her pills. She knew she’d need them for the rest of her life.

Seven thought it was odd. Cassia had just suffered sudden anemia and almost passed out. Her condition seemed serious.

Ms. Wood, but you clearly-

He was about to speak when Draven quietly raised a hand to stop him.

Mr. Grey?

Seven went silent and gave Draven a puzzled look.

Draven’s attention moved toward Cassia, who had just walked down the stairs. When she stopped in front of him, he gave her a small nod and watched her head toward the exit.

His usually calm face tensed slightly.

Leaving already?

His tone carried an unspoken thought. You could rest a bit longer. There’s no rush to go. No one here will see through that tough shell of yours. You don’t have to hold yourself together right now.

I’m going home. I don’t want to worry my mom.”

Cassia had reached the doorway. She stopped and turned her head, her eyes meeting his as she spoke softly.

I’ll drive you.”

Draven started walking toward her, his steps steady and sure.

A black luxury car soon pulled up near the Woods estate.

Drop me off here.

Cassia pushed the door open and stepped out.

Draven got out too and watched her for a second. A weight sat heavy in his chest. Why doesn’t she want me to take her to the door?

Still, she must have her reasons. He needed to respect that.

All right. I’ll head back, then.

Thanks. Bye.”

Bye.”

They turned away from each other and walked off in different directions.

The sky hung low and gray. A light rain began to fall, the drops so fine they looked like silver threads draping over the street. The world felt wrapped in quiet.

Draven turned just in time to see her slim figure fading into the mist. She walked farther away, her outline slowly dissolving until she almost vanished.

Something inside him twisted. He wanted to move forward and protect her, to keep her close and safe.

Wait. His voice came deep and smooth, carrying through the rain like a warm stream of sound.

Cassia turned back after he called out to her.

Her face, framed by the mist and drizzle, looked unrealelegant and calm, like something pulled from a painting.

For a second, Draven froze.

His gaze lingered until he finally blinked and forced himself to refocus.
