Chapter 138 Treating or Hurting Him

Grumbling under his breath, Vance trailed after Cassia on the way to the orphanage.

A loud bang shattered the eerie quiet inside.

Both of them looked up toward the sound.

It hit again.

What were they doing?

Cassia frowned, suddenly thinking of Sterling, and hurried inside with Vance close behind.

By the time they got in, Sterling’s door had already been forced open. The psychologist, along with Sterling’s parents and elder brother, had gone inside his room.

Cassia felt a chill of unease and dashed toward the doorway.

Sterling’s father, Gary Zimmer, was standing by the bed, shouting, “Get out of here, you brat! We brought a psychologist to help you!”

Peter had told them to come today, or Sterling would be sent home.

What a hassle. Gary wasn’t free for that.

“Come out and get treated! I don’t have time for this nonsense. I’ve gotta get back to work and make money!”

Sterling’s mother, Fiona Zimmer, squatted by the bed, peeking underneath. “Sterling, it’s okay. Don’t be afraid. Your dad said the doctor is really good. He’ll help you.”

The psychologist and Sterling’s brother, Ethan Zimmer, tried to coax him as well.

But Sterling stayed hidden under the bed, refusing to budge.

Gary’s patience was running out.

“Fine. We’ll move the bed.”

As he spoke, Cassia clearly heard a small, frightened voice from under the bed.

Her beautiful face twisted into something fierce.

Pressing her lips together, she strode forward, pushing past everyone to reach the bed.

“Who are you? What are you doing here? This isn’t your business. Stay out of it!”

Gary lashed out at the girl who’d barged in and ignored them completely.

Ethan tilted his head, intrigued. There was something familiar about her, like he’d seen her somewhere before.

Vance rushed in. Noticing the chaos, he realized Cassia was interfering and angering people. He reached for her, trying to pull her away.

“They’re just treating their kid. Why are you getting involved? Don’t make it worse! Let’s step outside and wait.”

But Cassia shot him a deadly glare. Vance froze, taken aback, and quickly pulled back before even touching her.

Seeing Gary’s anger, Vance didn’t want to get involved and reluctantly stepped back. He just hoped no one knew Cassia was his daughter.

Fiona recognized Cassia.

“You’re Cassia, the one Sterling trusts? Perfect timing. Can you get him out so the doctor can-” Before she could finish, Cassia interrupted.

“Shut up!” Her expression was now dangerously cold.

Her sudden command made the room go completely silent.

Once the silence had settled, Sterling’s trembling voice from under the bed could be heard clearly.

Cassia felt a surge of anger. Her fists clenched at her sides as she glared at Gary.

“Are you treating him or hurting him?”

To Cassia, Sterling’s autism was all because of his family.

From what she knew, Sterling and Ethan were real brothers.

Naturally, they were constantly compared. But while Ethan excelled at everything, Sterling was just

average.
