Chapter 139 Bring Him Back
After hearing Cassia’s reply, Sterling slowly crawled out from under the bed. He trembled so badly that it looked like he might collapse.
While everyone was still frozen, Cassia had already walked to the suitcase in the room, zipped it shut, and headed straight for the door.
Her whole vibe basically warned everyone–mess with her, and they were doomed.
Sterling hunched over, still shaking, and followed behind her.
The suitcase held his things, already packed up in the corner. Clearly, Sterling had planned to leave for a while.
Watching his son trail after a stranger, Gary blanked out for a second before anger kicked back in.
“Where are you taking my son? Stop right there!”
But Cassia and Sterling didn’t even look at him as they kept walking.
Vance was standing by the door, staring at Cassia walking out with Sterling quietly trailing after her.
You’ve got to be kidding. Are you seriously planning to take someone else’s kid? Where to? Who would look after him? If Cassia dared bring Sterling back to their house, he’d make her regret it.
Vance didn’t want to raise another child for free, but he was afraid Cassia might actually drag Sterling back to Wood Manor.
“Stop! What are you doing? This is insane! It’s embarrassing! Bring Sterling back right now!”
Vance instinctively closed the door.
Cassia stopped, her cold eyes locked on the door. She pressed her lips together, lifted her foot, and kicked it.
With a loud crash, the door hung crooked on its hinges.
The whole room went silent.
Sterling stared at the slim, steady figure in front of him. Even with the loud crash and his father’s constant yelling, he didn’t feel scared at all.
When Gary finally realized they were leaving and ignoring his commands, he rushed after them, shouting and reaching to grab Sterling.
“You little brat! Take one more step, and I’ll break your legs!”
“Try it and see what happens!” Her voice was icy, like something crawled up from hell. It sent a chill down his spine.

They were inside the orphanage, with the psychologist and another man watching. Gary felt his face burn. She looked around 18, but her expression practically screamed “stay away,” making him hesitate.
Besides, she wasn’t his daughter. He couldn’t just hit her.
“Control your daughter!” Gary yelled at Vance on the side.
He didn’t care if Vance was really her father–he just needed someone to blame.
Vance was startled and tried to protest that she wasn’t his daughter, desperate to separate himself from Cassia.
Getting blamed made Vance curse Cassia in his mind countless times.
Cassia was worthless and always caused problems. To him, she was nothing but a parasite feeding off him. If she wasn’t pretty enough to help him make connections and bring in money, he would’ve already come up with some excuse to dump her back at the orphanage.
How awful must his past life have been to end up with a daughter like her?
“Nonsense!” a voice barked from the entrance.
Peter had arrived.
He leaned on his cane, his beard shaking with anger.
“Gary, you’re acting ridiculous!” he yelled, slamming his cane on the floor like he wanted to beat Gary with
“Dad, why are you yelling at me?” Gary complained, sounding a little wronged.
Dad?
Vance froze.
The orphanage director was Sterling’s grandfather?
After a stunned second, everything made sense.
No wonder Peter spent a fortune getting a psychologist from overseas just for Sterling. And no wonder he’d acted like Cassia was some miracle when she’d gotten Sterling out of his room.
“I shouldn’t just yell–I should beat you!” Peter shouted, lifting his cane and swinging it at Gary.
Gary didn’t dare dodge and took several hits without resisting.
