Fingers were slender and sure flew across the keyboard. In mere moments, she slipped effortlessly through the Grey Group’s Zrario branch firewall and launched a direct assault on the general manager’s terminal.
“They’re here, Mr. Grey!” Seven burst into the CEO’s office, voice thrumming with adrenaline.
Draven sat before a bank of screens, tracking C’s digital shadow. His expression was carved from ice, brows sharp as distant mountain ridges.
Seven swallowed hard, sensing the lethal focus radiating from Draven. The air felt tight, and he found himself holding his breath as he watched the code streak across the monitor.
On Cassia’s end, she had already extracted the data she needed–yet at the same moment, she sensed a counterattack.
The style was razor–sharp and masterful–it reminded her instantly of the mysterious, formidable opponent who had appeared out of nowhere during her last incursion into the Grey family systems.
Last time, it had been a draw. This time, she would settle the score.
Cassia’s mind ignited, thoughts accelerating like sparks in a storm. Her fingers blurred, striking the keys so quickly they left afterimages.
Then, at the critical moment, a vicious cramp twisted through her lower right abdomen.
As the miracle doctor, she diagnosed it instantly.
Acute appendicitis.
A useless little organ with no purpose, yet capable of taking a person down like a knife in the dark.
She’d once considered having it removed but had ultimately decided against elective surgery on principle. Why remove a part of your body unless absolutely necessary?
Of course, it would choose now to rebel.
Damn it, why now of all times…
She clenched her jaw, her eyes streaking with red as she fought through the pain.

“They slipped away?” Draven’s brow dipped.
“Huh? You let them get away?” Seven blurted, finding it almost impossible to believe. This wasn’t like Mr. Grey at all.
“It wasn’t me,” Draven stated coolly.
If not Mr. Grey, then it had to be C.
But that was equally baffling.
“Maybe they ate something bad?” Seven ventured, guessing.
Draven pushed back his chair and stood.
“Mr. Grey? Where are you going?” Seven hurried after him.
“I found them.” Draven was already striding ahead, his long legs eating up the distance.
“Really? Where?”
Draven’s steps faltered for just a second.
“The Lennox.”
Seven blinked. “What?”
:
Cassia shut down her laptop. Her face was a stark, bloodless white, her lips pale and tinged
with blue.
She doubled over, clutching her abdomen as the pain roared in waves.
The pain was currently overwhelming, leaving her with no strength to walk. She planned to wait for the worst of it to pass, then make her own way to Dr. Limbaugh’s hospital.
The private dining room was empty. Here, at least, she could let her guard down completely.
Draven and Seven arrived at The Lennox.
“Mr. Grey, there are so many people. Which one is C?” Seven scanned the dining crowd.

Someone using a laptop in a restaurant should stand out, but no one in the main dining area had one open.
“They might have booked a private room. Or they might already be gone,” Draven murmured, the latter possibility seeming most likely.
Regardless of the reason for their tactical retreat, C wouldn’t foolishly linger to be caught.
“Pull the security footage,” Draven ordered.
While the foot traffic was significant, cross–referencing entries and exits during the critical window and applying some deductive logic might yield a lead.
“On it!”
Seven went straight to find Nicole.
As luck would have it, Nicole was on–site. Hearing Seven’s story about a lost, valuable item- and knowing these two were friends of Cassia’s–she granted him access to the security room.
“Is she here?” Draven asked, walking up to the host stand.
Nicole knew exactly who “she” referred to. She gestured toward the upper floor. “Yeah. Cassia’s in one of the upstairs private rooms.”
Though Cassia had said not to be disturbed, Nicole had a feeling that Draven was the exception to that rule.
“Thank you,” Draven said, voice warm but refined. He shrugged off his suit jacket, draped it over his arm, and ascended the stairs with an effortless, noble grace.
Nicole watched him leave, every line of his posture poised and elegant.
Definitely not an ordinary man.
