Looking at it now, she realized she and Draven actually had a lot in common–even their hobbies were the same.
She just wasn’t sure how good he was at racing.
Normally, she would never think of holding back on the track.
But Draven seemed like the kind of guy who really cared about his pride. If she completely destroyed him, that probably wouldn’t be right.
After lunch at the cafeteria, Brie decided to walk off her meal with Kaleb.
“Let’s go wander around the office building,” Brie suggested.
“We haven’t done anything wrong. What would we
go
there for?”
To the students, only kids with problems got called to the office.
No one just went there for fun–except for Cassia.
“But if Cassia goes there and she’s in a bad mood, I’m worried she might get into it with the teachers again.”
Brie said it with a pitiful look.
Kaleb’s heart went out to her, so he agreed.
They went into the office building.
Brie and Kaleb didn’t find Cassia anywhere. As they passed a closed office, Brie caught a strong, delicious aroma.
Danica could never get used to the cafeteria food, so every time they had a break, she called Geneva to drive her home for lunch.
But Brie stayed, wanting more time to prep for the SAT, so she chose to eat at school after
classes.
Kaleb heard that Brie wanted to stay at school for meals, so he decided to stay with her.

“What’s wrong?” Kaleb asked when he saw Brie stop in her tracks.
Brie glanced at the door to the office Cassia and Draven were in.
“That smells like food from Atelier Zrario.”

“No way. Atelier Zrario never does delivery,” Kaleb replied, then turned to Brie. “Do you want to eat there?”
Atelier Zrario didn’t do delivery?
Brie’s eyes went wide.
Then where did Cassia ordered her takeout from last time when she was sick?
She’d been so curious that she had even stopped the delivery person to ask. Breakfast from there had been amazing, and she’d wanted to try it herself.
But the person said it was from Atelier Zrario. She’d even wondered aloud how Cassia could afford such expensive hotel food.
“Brie, what’s up?”
Kaleb waved a hand in front of Brie’s face when he saw that she was lost in thought.
“Uh… nothing.”
Brie snapped out of it.
Kaleb repeated his question. “I asked if you want to go to Atelier Zrario.”
Brie nodded shyly.
“Vacation starts this weekend. Want to go together to celebrate?” Kaleb asked.
“My treat.” Brie was smart–she wasn’t the type to always expect her boyfriend to pay.
Ever since Kaleb confessed at Brie’s birthday party, they’d been dating.
It wasn’t public yet, though. They didn’t dare let any teachers or classmates find out.
Brie hadn’t even told Danica.
If others found out, it’d be a mess.

But with no one else around, Kaleb could be as affectionate as he wanted.
He smiled at Brie fondly.
“When you’re with me, I can’t let you pay.”

Kaleb had always been satisfied with Brie as his girlfriend–she was gentle, thoughtful, and not stingy about money.
Usually, guys paid on dates, but if the girl acted like it was always expected, it could get uncomfortable.
Brie wasn’t like that.
“But I can’t let you always pay, either.”
Honestly, Brie was mostly just saying that.
A meal at Atelier Zrario would cost a fortune, and she knew Kaleb would never let her pay at such a fancy place. He was too proud for that.
“How about this? Tonight, you treat me to soup at the Lennox?” Kaleb suggested.
Senior year was intense and exhausting. After night study, students were always hungry, and hot chicken soup was perfect on a cold winter night.
Unlike other hotels, the Lennox was open 24 hours.
“Okay, I’ll call now and see if there are any spots.” Brie had the Lennox’s number, but getting a table was tough–reservations filled up fast, and even booking at noon didn’t always guarantee a spot at night.
It was already evening, but Brie wanted to try her luck.
She called, and someone picked up right away.
“Hello, thank you for calling the Lennox.”
“Hi, I’d like to make a reservation for around ten tonight…”
“Of course, miss. May I have your last name?”
“My last name’s Wood.”
As soon as Brie gave her name, the line went quiet.

The receptionist looked over at Nicole.
:
“Nicole, someone with the last name Wood is calling.”
Nicole set her phone down, frowning in annoyance. “Wood? What’s her first name?”
