It was the last weekend before the holiday break.

It was Saturday night. Jake drove Cassia’s car and took her to the orphanage.

Cassia got out of the car and gave Jake his instructions. You can leave now. Take the car back. He can’t be around strangers.

Jake pouted but drove off anyway.

Cassia walked toward the orphanage. The place was pitch black.

Because it was out in the backwater town, the director and staff had already gone to bed.

Cassia knew of a broken old door that led inside the orphanage. Before Geneva had brought her back to the Woods, Cassia used to slip in and out through that door without anyone noticing.

She made her way around to the back of the orphanage and found the familiar old door. She pulled out the loosely latched bolt, pushed the door open, and stepped inside before closing it behind her.

She walked up to Sterling’s room and kicked the door twice with her foot.

There was a rustling sound from inside. Sterling was still awake.

The door opened, and Sterling stared at Cassia with a blank expression.

I’m taking you out. You coming?Cassia jerked her chin, looking every bit like a boss.

Yeah,Sterling answered and went back to grab his phone.

One of the overnight caretakers at the orphanage spotted Cassia and Sterling walking one after the other and quickly blocked their path.

Hold it. What do you think you’re doing? You can’t take him out!

Cassia looked at the caretaker, her face expressionless.

The people at the orphanage couldn’t stand the way Cassia shut them down with just a few words. They had been on the receiving end of her cold stares plenty of times before.

Don’t think you’re hot stuff just because some rich family took you in. Take Sterling back to his room right now, or I’m calling the director!

Go ahead. If you don’t mind getting fired.

Cassia gave the caretaker a dismissive glance, finished speaking coolly, and walked past her toward the door.

You! Fine, Cassia. Go ahead and take Sterling if you’ve got the guts! He has severe autism. When something goes wrong, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

The caretaker watched Cassia and Sterling walk out of the orphanage one after the other, grinding her teeth in frustration.

She decided not to tell Peter. When something went wrong, she’d see how Cassia handled it! Hmph!

After Cassia took Sterling outside, she kept a close eye on his condition.

She had been a little worried at first, afraid Sterling might not be able to adjust right away. That was why she had Jake take the car back. She also tried to avoid crowds as much as possible while walking.

Later, she realized her worries were completely unnecessary. Sterling followed behind her obediently. Other than not speaking, there was nothing unusual about him.

But the orphanage was far from Dunstino Bay. They couldn’t walk the whole way.

I’ll call a cab in a bit.

Sterling nodded.

Not scared?Cassia asked.

Sterling shook his head. His pure, clear eyes reflected Cassia’s image.

All right, I’ll hail a cab then.Cassia was just about to flag one down when she saw a familiar Volkswagen slowly approaching them.

The black sedan stopped in front of them.

The window rolled down, revealing Seven’s face.

Then the rear window slowly lowered as well.

Draven glanced at Cassia and Sterling.

Going somewhere?

Dunstino Bay,Cassia replied.

Perfect. I was just heading back myself,Draven said.

Liar!

Seven screamed internally. They had literally just left Dunstino Bay.

Hop in,Draven said.

Cassia didn’t bother being polite. She opened the door, let Sterling get in first, then walked around and got in from the other side.

No one said a word the entire ride.

When they arrived at the condominium in Dunstino Bay, Cassia raised an eyebrow at Sterling.

This was bought with the money you earned. It’s home.

When Cassia said this, she placed extra emphasis on the word home.
